Native San Diegans. Together for 29 years, Susan and Mark are now your hosts for a vacation rental that has charm and comfortable elegance, with aspects of a B & B. Susan has worked as a chef at a local B & B and created sensational breakfasts for their guests. She has been trained locally and in France. Mark formerly used the house for a professional office, but retired last year. The House has been fully renovated to provide clean and tasteful accommodations.
Mark and Susan Brandon purchased this house in 1995
San Diego is a favorite vacation spot and we are ideally located in an urban neighborhood that is walking distance to many fine restaurants. We are also close to Balboa Park, one of the nation's largest intra-city parks (larger than Central Park in New York). The Park itself is quite an attraction, but it also contains the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Other destinations are within 5 to 15 minutes away. To the West are the Bay and airport (3 miles) and the beaches (7 miles), to the South are Petco Park and the Gaslamp Quarter (4 miles), the Convention Center (3 miles), and Downtown (1-2 miles), and to the North are La Jolla (12 miles), the Del Mar Fair and Racetrack (seasonal)(20 miles). Legoland is North of the City, about 30 minutes away. Temecula wineries and the Safari Park are farther North, about 45 minutes away. In the South Bay, there is Aquatica Waterpark (formerly Soak City) about 25 minutes away. There are thousands of hotel rooms available, but there is only one Hardesty House, accessible to everything. When you stay here, it will be your home away from home. Enjoy true relaxation at home. You are free to set your own schedule, no common areas or parking attendants, park your car and go out whenever you wish.
Relax and enjoy gracious living in a one-of-a-kind house. If any special arrangements are desired, just let us know and we will be glad to help. With our optional B & B service, you will enjoy delicious breakfasts and other food items. We want to make your stay memorable and one you will want to repeat. We are here to help. If you prefer to book by telephone, or if you are just not sure and would like to ask questions, do not hesitate to call us at 619-295-9595 or send an email through this site.
The house was very accommodating for our size of party. Seven of us was there for a birthday celebration along with New Year's Eve. We had everything we needed to barbecue and to cook. The dining room was big enough to accommodate all of us for a sit down dinner on New Year's eve.
Susan and Brandon were very accommodating. They always returned a text or call in a very timely fashion. The house was well-maintained and very clean.
The only one suggestion that was made. Rather than having a television in the dining room, one in the third or fourth bedroom would be nice.
Thanks again for your hospitality. We hope to return.
We had a wonderful time staying here! Susan was phenomenal, she greeted us when we arrived and even provided a coffee cake. The house was spacious, clean and cozy! Would 100% stay here again!
We spent Thanksgiving weekend at Mark and Susan's lovely San Diego home with our family. There were 8 of us and there was plenty of room for everyone. We enjoyed breakfasts out on the private patio and dinner in the spacious dining room. Susan was kind enough to loan us dishes and nice linens for our Thanksgiving dinner. Preparing it in the tiny kitchen was certainly a challenge, but we managed to do it. There wasn't much counter space and the oven is not full sized, but the refrigerator is, which made a huge difference. The house is clean and well maintained and the bathrooms are spacious and beautifully remodeled. Except for the size of the kitchen, I can't think of anything negative to say about the house. They even have an extensive DVD library, which we enjoyed. Shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance, as is Balboa Park. The SanDiego Zoo is a short drive, and Coronado Island and Point Loma are surprisingly close and easy to drive to. Susan was a joy to work with and she went out of her way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We've done a lot of vacation rentals and this was one of the best.
Thank you Susan for allowing my friends and I to stay in your lovely victorian house for the weekend. There was more than enough space for all of us to be comfortable. It was like home away from home feeling. Everyone loved each room of theirs and had only good words to say. The coffee cake you left us was great and we all enjoyed it to the very last day. We are planning another trip next year in San Diego so if your home is available we might just rent it again. Thank you again!
We were so fortunate to be able to experience our vacation at the Hardesty House. The owners Mark and Susan have made this house a perfect place to spend your vacation. When you walk through the door, you're in awe of how beautiful and meticulous the place is, but yet very comfortable. Susan, the owner, met us at the house when we arrived, and walked us through. The house is very quiet and the beds are extremely comfortable. Our group consisted of three couples. We loved waking up in the morning, grabbing a cup of coffee, a piece of coffee cake that Susan had baked for us, and sitting on the front porch, enjoying the landscaping and watching the people walk by. The courtyard in back is great for evening barbecues. The off-street parking at the house is a bonus! So many restaurants to choose from and fun things to do. We had never stayed in the Hillcrest area before; what a great neighborhood! We walked to Little Italy to the Farmer's Market. We used Uber and took in a SF Giants v Padres game. Enjoyed some Uncle Biff's Killer Cookies, which was a short walk from the house. Great location! We would definitely stay there again. We loved everything about it!
Having previously lived in San Diego, we knew that this would be the perfect location for our vacation back to visit friends and our old favorite restaurants and places. This house was perfect for our 3 generation family vacation! Very well kept, great layout, charming, and within walking distance to great restaurants. It's close to the zoo and centrally located for trips all around San Diego. Mark and Susan are a pleasure to work with -- very responsive and welcoming. We would definitely stay again!
