In the summer the property is surrounded by wild Salmonberrys that you can collect and make desserts with.
Im retired Coast Guard and work for the St Marys Parish as needed. One of the needs was turning this cute Convent house into a Rental home. I was stationed in Kodiak for 20 years and met my wife here at a wedding and within a year we were at our own wedding. Then, somehow, a baby boy showed up and then a girl?? And since Kodiak is so safe and absolutely breathtaking, we knew we had to raise them here.
Berry Spivey purchased this house in 1965
The island is huge with abundance of wildlife and some of the most sought after game hunting and fishing in the world. This house is huge and its all yours. Rustic and charming with complete privacy.
FISHING- All you need to know is...
Its Big! 6 Bedroom with 9 beds and can sleep 10 with a Hide-a-bed couch.
The MOST important thing- Let me know if you need car seats or play pen or even PB&J, cereal, popcorn or whatever to make it easy on Mom and Dad when you 1st arrive.
Hate trying to figure out where the rental place is after long flights? Email me and I will try to meet you at Airport.
This house was formally located downtown Kodiak and was a favorite Cat House until the Tsunami of 1964. After the quake. the Parish bought and moved it "Up Town" where is was used as a Convent house for 50 years.
This is a great property for a group. Kitchen has outstanding pots, pans, skillets, bowls, plates, silverware to allow a large group to serve two or more meals without using the dishwasher after each meal. The stove with two ovens was helpful for baking fish in one oven and bread in the other. Two full baths plus a half bath was great with no lines waiting for showers, etc. Plenty of beds, perfect location, outdoor grills, freezer and on & on. This property far exceeded another Kodiak VRBO we have rented the prior two years and five Kodiak properties we toured to consider for this October annual fishing trip.
Fine support in renting the property, pre-arrival, and during our actual stay.
The Abbey was very clean, everything that you could need. It would be a great holiday for a couple of families. Was lovely to be able to sit out on the deck and watch the squirrels gathering their winter store. Handy to be able to walk to Walmart. Parking was a breeze.
Berry was very helpful and a pleasure to work with.
We were four fishermen that came to Kodiak for a week. We found the Abby clean with plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Enjoyed the fire pit and the patio for cookouts. Berry was very accommodating and a pleasure to work with. Great price
the abbey is a great place to stay for a large family or group of fisherman, the abbey has all you want for your vacation all you need to do is bring yourself. I would stay there anytime I came to Kodiak, you will not go wrong on renting this vacation property. I want to thank berry spivey for renting this very nice vacation rental.
Our stay was perfect. Berry helped with transportation when ferry arrived. Thank you Berry. The house was a great size for our group of 5 adults and 4 children. House has been well loved and broke in. We were never worried about putting our feet on couch or any of those things you would do at home. Very kid friendly. The basement had many things we were able to use. The kitchen could use a inventory check as a few key items were missing. Thanks Berry for a great place to stay. We plan to be back.

Turn right on to Rezanof from Airport and drive 6 miles. After passing first street light the road forks. Right fork is Rezanof, left fork is Mill Bay. Take left fork and continue for 3 miles. Just PRIOR to Walmart and on the right you will see Abbey sign. The actual intersection is Mill Bay and Murphy Way.
