A short walk from scenic Betterton beach, this clean and cozy home has everything you need for a relaxing vacation or reunion.
Cook meals in the fully appointed kitchen and enjoy family time in the adjacent dining room. Start a ballgame in the spacious yard or watch the sunset from the back deck. The house can accommodate up to 10 guests and is equipped with wireless internet.
With this 1st Avenue home as your base, you’ll be at the heart of Betterton, “Jewel of the Chesapeake.” Swim and sun at the beach, or stroll to Barbara’s on the Bay for lunch. The nearby towns of Chestertown and Rock Hall offer shopping, dining, and coastal culture.
Great attention to detail: night lights, good lighting, clean, comfortable dining room chairs, well stocked pantry all described beforehand. Betterton is a fun place, great for walks. We ate at Barbara's, which was a fun, tasty, walkable place. Spent Saturday in Chestertown--loved the farmer's market and the shops.
I almost don't want to let anyone else know about this gem of a home in a town where time has stood still and by a beach no less! The owners could not have been more responsive and the home is very clean, quaint and comfortable. The beds are very comfortable and there are plenty of blankets, something that is not always present in rentals. The deck is perfect for reading or morning coffee and with a partial view of the bay. And the beach is a 2 minute walk with benches if you don't like sand on your toes. Barbara's the only walkable restaurant was very good and the service and owner make you feel like family as do all the residents of the area. Thank you to the Walkups for sharing their home with us!
I booked this house for a reunion weekend for 9 friends, myself included. The house more than accommodated all of us and we had a wonderful weekend, despite the bad weather on Friday. Saturday was fantastic and we all took a walk down to the beach (twice) to enjoy the sun and the breeze. Sunday's weather, by far, was the best day of the weekend. I wish we could have stayed another night just to enjoy and explore the area. Betterton was historic, quiet, charming and friendly. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone seeking a vacation spot that is just far enough from the hustle and bustle.
Thank you for renting us your perfect home at the beach! We arrived on Friday around 7pm in January - in the dark...the sky was lit up with stars. I have never seen anything quite like it. We found a welcome note from Maura, the neighbor, who knew we were in town hoping to find some sea glass! I called her and she gave us some great tips on where to look and then we headed to Barbara's On The Bay for dinner. We had a great dinner and Barbara was so sweet and lent us her flashlight so we could go look on the beach after dinner. We had a great night of sleep after our late night hunt on the beach - I slept in the double bed and it was so comfortable! The next morning we hit the road at 5:30am to go beach combing. We went to Betterton beach down the street first - and stayed for probably 1.5 hours and we each found a nice handful of glass. Then we headed to Tolchester Beach - which at high tide was not worth it! Maybe it would be good at low tide - but we didn't go back. Then we went down to Rock Hall - and we had fun hunting for seaglass and other treasures there. We had success in finding bottles still in tact - down at Eastern Neck park...I found a bottle dated from the 1930's and one of my friends found one - perfect condition - from the 1800's!! (there is a site that can date these bottles) After that we came back to the house - refreshed and sat around the living room laughing and checking out the Roku (I haven't used one before - super cool!) After relaxing for a bit - we went back to Betterton Beach at low tide. We walked forever and got so many pieces of seaglass and other treasures. We had a quick bite at Marzellas pizza and then came home to have cocktails and early bed - for more hunting the next morning. We crossed the bridge on the way home and went to Sandy Point - another great spot for hunting and then a breakfast at Miss Shirley's in Annapolis. So while we didn't stay much in the house - when we did - we felt welcomed and comfortable. The house was clean and had basic supplies you would need - and the double bed was soooo comfortable. Thank you for everything! We hope to come back soon for another weekend of seaglass hunting!
The information about the house was very accurate. It is just a short walk from the beach and our grandkids really enjoyed playing in the sand. The house was very clean and the kitchen was adequately supplied with the necessities for cooking. We enjoyed our stay.
We enjoyed our stay at the Betterton Beach House for Labor Day weekend. Remarkably, the beach is not very busy - perfect for us to enjoy a weekend getaway from work with our three small children. The house was the perfect size for our 5-person family - we used all but one of the bedrooms. Another family could have joined us but we would have had to use the pullout couch downstairs to accommodate everyone.
The house's location is perfect and a short walk to the beach. The owners provided almost everything that we needed other than food - a very welcome aspect for busy parents! The owners also kindly allowed us to check in early on very short notice - very much appreciated. The beauty of the house is in the imagination of its history - hardwood floors, plaster walls, etc and it is clear that the owners are working to update and care for some aging areas of the home. Overall we had a lovely stay and are already talking about coming back next year. Thank you for facilitating our wonderful family memories!
