Overlooking the picturesque Gstaad valley and a short walk from the village of Chateau D'Oex, this south-facing, sunny, spacious and elegantly-furnished apartment with its magnificent large terrace affords you the opportunity to admire the stunning mountain views whilst enjoying alfresco eating and sunbathing. The apartment is part of a stylish award-winning development of a grand nineteenth century hotel featuring an indoor pool, sauna, steam-room, fitness room and laundry - all for the exclusive use of the apartments. Chateau D'Oex is an all year round centre providing winter skiing and summer walking set in a charming and peaceful location.

Chateau D'Oex: is a delightful traditional village with many amenities in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. There is an excellent supermarket and traditional food shops. There is a wide selection of restaurants and cafes, together with car hire, sports equipment rental, video rental and daily international newspapers. There are banks, a tourist office, cinema and museum. All denominational churches including Anglican. Year round concerts, recitals and traditional alpine events. The excellent Swiss rail service gives easy access throughout Switzerland and Europe. Pick-up facilities for guests are available from the station and Geneva by arrangement. Train from Geneva airport to Chateau D'Oex is straightforward with a change in Montreux. Chateau D'Oex is a world-renowned centre for hot air ballooning and every January there is an international hot air Balloon Week.

Winter Activities: include downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, winter Wonderweg walks, tobogganing, hot air ballooning, winter ice-skating, curling and tenpin bowling. Concerts and recitals in Chateau D'Oex and neighbouring villages - check with Tourist Office.

Summer Activities: Cable cars are open June to September, giving access to well signed networks of summer walks and mountain biking. Also skiing at Les Diableret glacier, cycle routes, horse-riding, hot air ballooning, white water rafting, canoeing, fishing, archery, via ferrata, tenpin bowling, tennis. Golf at Gstaad, La Gruyere, Villars and Aigle. The Gstaad Swiss Tennis Open (July), Montreux Jazz Festival (July), Menuhin Music Festival. Chillon and Aigle castles, spa towns of Ovronnaz and Yverdon-les-Bains.

A huge thank you to both of you for letting us your fantastic apartment over Easter. It was just a divine break for us both. Stunning scenery, lovely meals, lots of Swiss chocs and wine. The main things though were the walks - some 3 hours long through deep snow! We just loved it all and will want to make a return trip. All so clean and fresh and healthy - I even persuaded Stephen to attend a wonderful Easter Service!

A week in paradise...

We wanted to thank you so VERY much for our week in paradise - we had the most magical stay in your beautiful apartment. It was so spacious and welcoming, and the views from every room were absolutely stunning. The biggest ‘wow’ factor was the gigantic private terrace! We could have invited the entire village up for drinks, lol. We loved having breakfast every morning and dinner every night on the terrace, with the most magnificent views of the village and mountains all around us. And at sunset, we’d enjoy the views of the church all lit up over a glass of wine. We felt like we had the entire Résidence Rosat to ourselves! The tranquility and beauty of your place is out of a fairy tale. You are very lucky to own a piece of Heaven :-)

Angelo and Patrick were extremely helpful and responsive. It was reassuring to know that they were there if we ever needed assistance with anything.

Your apartment is in the perfect location for exploring the area, and there are so many incredible activities, especially for families. We were able to go to La Braye one day, Wispile and Gstaad, Schönreid and Rellerli (the toboggan run is a blast!), Gruyères, and Broc for the Maison Cailler chocolate factory (where I ate WAY too much chocolate, lol). We also loved just staying at 'home', and exploring the charming village of Château d'Œx (we went mini-golfing, played at the park, and also made the short walk to Le Berceau outdoor swimming pool – a must if you have kids!). We had the most incredible experiences - and over 5,000 photos filled with memories we will always cherish.

Once we get a bit more organized here, we will send you some photos of our stay (don't worry, we'll narrow it down to just a handful, lol).

Thank you again for sharing your beautiful second home with us. We had the most incredible, magical vacation, and will most definitely be back soon!

Superb Apartment in a Lovely Location

This apartment had all we needed for a great stay -very clean, well presented with lots of space. The terrace was a great place to relax. We used the swimming pool a lot & generally had it to ourselves. If you have kids, it is useful to know that La Residence also has giant chess in the grounds & board games in the huge lounge area. There's lots to do in Chateau d'Oeux & the surrounding area - plenty of things to keep children entertained. In the town itself is the mini golf course with a couple of very challenging holes. The bowling alley is really clean & modern & has table tennis, air hockey etc - not busy but good fun. Eating out at the Richemont is recommended & they have a pool table. The outdoor pool at Le Berceau is heated & huge - only a 3 minute drive from the Apartment or an easy walk - a children's paddling pool, a shallower area for children, a huge main pool with spring board, a laned off section, a great water slide, restaurant, changing rooms & table tennis & spotless. We also got a discount on the entry fee when we mentioned we were staying in Chateau d'Oeux. Le Sentier des Fourmis (the Ant Walk) is a walk from the top of La Braye (at the top of the chair lift) - takes about 1 1/2 hours through fields & woods downhill back to the top of the cable car. There are information boards along the way about wood ants, picnic areas and a children's play area. It is easy for kids to complete and all for free! The next village, Rosseniere, was holding Le Royaume des Chats which seems to be an annual event in the summer. All around the village are cat sculptures made by children, professional artists etc & it is in honour of the artist Balthus who lived in the village. Armed with a map which marks the location of the statues you get to walk all round the village trying to spot all the cats which is not as easy as it sounds. Again all free & good fun. There are places further afield which are interesting for children and if you like castles we would recommend both the castle at Gruyeres and Chateau Chillon near Montreux - we took the train to Montreux, a boat on the lake to the castle and walked back along the lakeside. The salt mine at Bex is also worth a visit - a small train takes you right inside the mine & children get to do some mining at the end! It gets busy - we booked online the night before. We would really recommend this area & definitely this apartment - we hope to be back soon.

Luxury Apartment with large Sun Terrace and Views

We returned to this apartment for a second visit as it provides everything one needs for a relaxing holiday. This is by far the most luxurious apartment we have discovered on our trips around Europe. The apartment is exceptionally well equipped with high quality appliances and very tastefully furnished. The owners excellent insight into the needs of their tenants is apparent in the well organised and informative information pack. Their attention to fine detail is in evidence throughout the apartment, even down to the provision of continental electrical plug adaptors for English three-pin appliances.

The apartment's exceptionally quiet location coupled with the very comfortable, soft mattress in the double bedroom meant we slept well and awoke refreshed.

The apartment, which affords splendid views over Chateau D'Oex, is situated on a hill in La Frasse, a one kilometre walk from the station.

During our stay we covered most of the picturesque local walks and then explored further afield with the benefit of the good value Geneva Regional Pass. On hot days we cooled off on boat trips around Lake Thun and Lake Geneva, easily accessed by train from Chateau D'Oex. The local trains have panoramic carriages, even for 2nd class passengers, which enable one to fully appreciate the exceptional beauty of the Saanen Valley, between Chamby and Gstaad. And for nostalgics there are trains with 'Classic' carriages which depart from Chateau d'Oex around midday, which evoke memories of even more leisurely and luxurious rail travel.

Our only disappointment was that the region's wide variety of cable cars and ski lifts, (which were included in our Geneva Regional Pass), undergo their annual maintenance during the month of June. Thus, we were unable to extend the scope for walks with great views on this visit.

On our return from outings we looked forward to a relaxing swim & sauna before early evening drinks on the terrace.

Perhaps the greatest compliment we can pay the owners is that we felt so utterly relaxed in their apartment, that we never even felt tempted to go out of an evening or to visit any of the, apparently excellent, local restaurants. All we wanted to do was to dine in, to maximise the time spent in the luxurious surroundings of our temporary 'Home'.

Wonderful apartment for our Swiss vacation!

We spent a week in late May at this lovely apartment and would highly recommend it! The building has been beautifully restored and this ground floor apartment was perfect for us with my husband’s parents. It is very conveniently laid out with a bedroom and bath on either side of the salon, and the nice kitchen made it possible for us to eat many meals enjoying the lovely view from the terrace. The resident manager was very helpful and the building has lots of amenities, which add to a wonderful stay—indoor pool was beautiful! The apartment and shared facilities were very clean and nicely furnished.

The apartment owner was extremely easy to work with and provided LOTS of helpful information including driving directions, suggestions for things to do in the area as well as information on shopping and parking. We rented a car and drove from the Geneva airport, and we found the car especially helpful for my in-laws, who have a bit of trouble walking on steep hills. We also had rail passes and found travel from Chateau d’Oex very easy by train, traveling to Montreaux, Lucerne and Wengen. We wholeheartedly recommend this apartment!

Chateau d'Oex Delights

Ideal location on the Golden Pass rail line, Chateau d'Oex is a lovely typical Swiss village. The apartment is a pleasant (but partly uphill) 15 minute walk from the train station and 5 minute walk to the village making it a great base.

The owner provided excellent information before the holiday which enabled us to properly plan our holiday, There was nothing we needed to know that we were not made aware of.

We were met by Angelo who was professional but friendly and provided us all the necessary information about the apartment and facilities at the complex, The entire complex was as described and a bit more.

Patrick the Manager was also very helpful and friendly and gave some good tips on days out.

The apartment was spotless when we arrived and had everything you could need for a holiday. The Terrace was wonderful with great views and plenty of furniture (just as the picture suggests) and we saw almost daily hot air balloons drifting past.

We will have no hesitation in recommending this property to Friends and family who want to experience the beauty of Switzerland with the comfort of home.

Using the Swiss regional pass ticket (which saved a lot of money) rather than hiring a car enabled us to enjoy all the views as the efficient train, bus and boat systems could be relied on and were all very comfortable using the 2nd class ticket.

The Swiss people are very friendly and even if they spoke as little English as we did French were able to provide good service.

Recommended places to visit would be Gstaad, Gruyeres, Spiez, Montreaux and the Chillon castle, a boat trip on lake Geneva, but an absolute must is Rochers-de-Naye the views are breathtaking.

We cant wait for another Swiss holiday in Chateau d'Oex

A perfect week

Just back from a perfect week in Chateau D'Oex. The appartment was ideal with great facilities (pool and sauna). This is the third time at the resort and would highly recommend it. The skiing was great and a sector 1 pass with a 5 min train journey to Rougemount opens up the skiing all the way to Gstaad. Found all the locals very friendly and the coop in the village proved very handy. The appartment is furnished to a very high standard and we will definately be heading back, winter or summer.

Low cost flights to Geneva and Basle. Chateau D'Oex is 120 kilometres from Geneva, 20 minutes from Gstaad and a 12 hour drive from London. The train from Geneva connects with the MOB panoramic railway which takes the picturesque route to Chateau D'Oex. Chateau D'Oex is a small traditional, French-speaking alpine village linking to the cultural and fashionable villages of Gstaad, Saanen and Rougemont, historical Gruyere and with easy access to lakeside Lausanne, Montreux and Geneva.

Other Activities: ice-skating, tenpin bowling, crazy golf, children's playground, canoeing, hot air ballooning, curling, white-water rafting, archery, via ferrata.

Golf: The Gstaad golf club at Saanenmoser, a charming alpine course welcomes non-members. It also has clubs for hire. There are other golf courses at Villars, Gruyere and Aigle.

Ski: Chateau D'Oex is part of the Gstaad Superski region, with 250 kilometres of pistes, 66 lifts and 6 ski areas with fabulous scenery and summer skiing on Les Diablerets Glacier at 3000 metres. Suitable for all standards - two hour, four hour, daily or weekly ski passes available. Ski school in the village with nursery and snow park in Chateau D'Oex for children. Cable car in the centre of the village. Excellent cross-country skiing at La Lecherette 15 minutes away. There are many designated snow shoeing and winter walking paths in the area.

The apartment is wheelchair accessible. The large terrace is for the exclusive use of the apartment, the building has a lift. A laundry room is situated on the lower ground floor - washing machines and tumble dryers are provided for which a laundry card needs to be purchased. There is a downstairs ski room for storing equipment with a separate ski door entrance. There is a comfortable bar and lounge area with card tables and board games and a small library and Wi-Fi Zone for laptop users.
