The villa was very nice. When you walk in, there's a nice area off to the right for shoes and coolers and stuff, along with a washer and dryer behind some bifold doors. Then you walk into the kitchen which is nice and big (full fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, lots of cupboards) There's a "peninsula" with 4 stools to sit at the counter, and it's open to the dining room (table with 8 chairs) and also open to the living room which is a sofa sleeper couch and matching loveseat, both facing the electric fireplace. There's a full bathroom off the kitchen. You go upstairs and there's a bedroom with 2 queens, a closet, dresser and TV. Then a hall bathroom (full bath with tub). Then there's the master suite with a king bed, fireplace, loveseat, Jacuzzi tub (just in the main bedroom), a dresser, closet, small balcony, and a vanity area with a sink. The upstairs bathroom is shared between the bedroom and the master - but you can lock the bathroom door from the master bedroom.
We ended up with our entire group (18 people - several of them were staying in suites, but they came over at night) hanging out in our villa, and it didn't feel cramped at all. The rooms are nice and spacious. If we go again, we'd bring a fly swatter with us - there were lots of mosquitos. They'd come in anytime we opened the door. Oh, and there wasn't any Wi-Fi in the villa.
The waterpark at the resort was really nice. The water temp shocked me with how warm it was - I'd guess it was probably 90 or so. I walked right in (and I'm a wimp when it comes to cold water). They have the wave pool (but they only turn the waves on for about 5min every 30min or so), the lazy river, a nice big hot tub, a couple water slides for adults and others for kids, a kiddie "island" with fun stuff for them...lots of neat things. It was noisy in there, though.
The hiking at the 2 state parks (Starved Rock and Matthiesen) was great! Not stroller-friendly, though. But there were some great hikes - some easier ones and then some more challenging ones that went through rivers and such. The one big thing to know is that there was poison ivy EVERYWHERE at those parks. not just a patch here and there, but it makes up the majority of their forests. :) Big stuff, too, climbing up trees and literally everywhere.
Overall, we all had a great time and definitely want to go back!
