About this property

Sunapee Region, Waterfront Cabin on Lake Todd, family-friendly

The charm of Lake Todd is that it is a private lake with three islands to explore and many secret coves for great fishing. It's perfect for small children as the beach has a gentle slope, but deep enough to jump off the end of the dock. You will have your own very private beach and a row boat to get to the islands or to look for fish. The cabin sits up on a small knoll that has views of the lake and the perennial garden.

There are two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other has two twins. The bathroom is located off the queen bedroom, with another door off the kitchen. There are hard wood floors with an oriental rug in the living room, and the bedrooms are carpeted. The bathroom and has a tub/shower combination. We can supply sheets and towels for an extra fee, generally guests bring their own but please advise in advance. Blankets and pillows are provided. The nearest grocery store is Market Basket, at exit 9 off of Rte 89 N- about 10 miles away, we urge guests to stop there to get their groceries on the way in. There is a convenience store at the gas station in the town of Bradford, one mile away. There is a post office, library and laundry mat in Bradford as well.

Lake Todd is located in Newbury, New Hampshire - just seven miles from Lake Sunapee for dinner cruises and Mt. Sunapee which offers hiking and bike trails. There are restaurants in Newbury, just 5 miles away as well as in the town of Sunapee and New London, each about a 25 minute drive. The town of New The London has a summer theater. Mt. Kearsarge State Forest is about 15 miles away in the town of Warner and has a wonderful short hike from Rollins State Park with fantastic views on the way to the top, and if you find the weather tower open, you can see Vermont and the White Mountains. On the way to the park stop at the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum which has family activities and educational tours.

Travel time from Boston is about 1.5hrs and Manchester Airport, Manchester, NH is about 45 minutes away. Easy commute up Rte 93N to Rte 89N and take exit 9.

Lovely and Calm Lakehouse
We enjoyed our stay at this cabin lake Todd very much. At night there was silence and darkness. During the day, just the sound of birds and distant sound of neighbors. All happy sounds. The cabin was comfortable and equipped with almost everything you need to enjoy a relaxing retreat from the city.

Quiet Lakeside Retreat
Quiet, private, restful cottage on the shore of Lake Todd. It was just as advertised: homey, clean, modern appliances with its own dock and private beach area. We swam(lazed)in Lake Todd most days using the provided pool meeting but we also traveled 10 minutes down the road to Lake Sunapee State Park where for $5 per adult you can use the beach while enjoying stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Major grocery store (Market Basket) 15 minutes, fully stocked convenience store and gas station 2 minutes, multiple restaurants within 10 minutes. Newbury and Sunapee are where you eat out/take out a few nights and eat in a few nights; that kind of pace. Excellent wifi and 5G coverage too. Owner is wonderful and communicative with restaurants and other recommendations.

Great time!
My family love New Hampshire and this area particularly. The lake with islands were amazing! Loved the private beach! Even though we didn't get lucky with a sunny weather, there were plenty of things to do! Stephanie was very responsive. So accurate description of the rules and things around, that we didn't have any questions.

At Lake Todd
My husband and I had an enjoyable stay at this cabin. The place was clean and tidy. I loved reading on an Adirondack chair and he had fun rowing around the lake.

In 1961 our family was on a camping trip in NH. We had not made arrangements for the night of July 4th and came across Lake Todd, purely by accident. We had stopped at a nearby gas station and asked if there was any place to stay. We were directed down the nearby gravel road to a series of small cabins (now gone) and luckily found that one was available. The following year we bought some lakefront land and subsequent years added on to our original purchase. In 1977 we purchased the adjacent property with the cabin on it and renovated the building as well as the property around it. Now there is a perennial garden, stone wall and a large private beach.

Why they chose this property

Lake Todd is a unique private lake and over the years the lake has seen changes in the people that live here, no longer are the houses only owner owned, but they have become a special retreat for the owners, some that live only an hour away. Everyone respects the lake and the wildlife in it, we don't have large boats making lots of noise, most everyone kayaks, canoes or fishes from small boats.

What makes this property unique

We have a large bird population, loons every summer nest on one of the islands and we have an eagle that has visited for several years. The lake is small enough to row around the perimeter and look for turtles sunning on fallen logs and in July there are enough blueberries for everyone. You can swim out to the islands from our beach if you're a moderately good swimmer. The lake is quiet and after a day of sightseeing or hiking, it's a very peaceful place to be. We do offer Wi-Fi, but no cable TV - this is a place to relax and reflect.
