About Don

Our family has been spending summer vacations on the East Coast since the very early 1900's when our Great Grandfather took my Grandfather as a boy down to the barrier Islands off the Eastern seaboard. Sadly, as much as all the older generations LOVED the shore, they were never able to afford to buy a house there. My Grandfather had the opportunity to 'buy' a lot on an Island for $200 in the early 1900's, but in his own words; 'that was too much money' back then...he couldn't afford it...he grew up in the great depression. We need to remind ourselves that we are a very blessed generation to have been able to finally buy a Beach House. It still took a lot of sacrifices and it is not easy, but we know it brings a lot of joy to a lot of people...not just us. We have a young 'special-needs' boy, and there is no greater feeling than watching his face when he is at the Beach! We are sure this will bring many fond memories to your Children... if you can simply put down the cell phone, computer and remote while you are here and just enjoy being with your family at the Ocean!

Don purchased this house in 2001

Why Don chose Coastal North Carolina

Our Father decided that since he was just a few more years away from being about to retire that he wanted to buy a house on the NC Coast and retire there. He visited the entire NC coast looking at real estate and he apparently fell in love with Emerald Isle because he singled it out and focused on the market there. Sadly, two weeks later after making his last trip there, he passed away...at the young age of 54.

In 2003, after years of just talking about it, I said to my brother 'Let's finally go buy a Beach House together, on the NC Coast'. My brother informed me that he was getting married and therefore couldn't afford it. So I started taking trips to every Island and every town up and down the NC Coast. Upon doing so, there was no question that Emerald Isle was by far the prettiest Island in my opinion. It's natural beauty is everywhere you look. It has pristine beaches with very clean, warm water. The Ocean is shallow and great for children. The architecture on the Island is a mix of Sandcastles and small cottages. There is maritime forest with old curvy tall Live Oak tree's. There is fine dining, miles of bike paths, a wide beautiful Sound for boating and so much more.

What makes this house unique

Clean, warm, shallow Ocean water with expansive, pristine white sandy Beaches!!! Pure Nature at it's best!

The Island runs East to West allowing views of both the sunrises and sunsets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our week here is ending and I am sorry to leave. This was exactly what we needed this year. I was awake every morning to watch the sunrise. Some mornings I watched from bed. Some I went out and took pictures. Overall a great vacation. Loved sleeping to the sound of the waves.

Sister Trip

  • 4 of 5

We a had a great time did not want it to end. The rental was just what we needed with enough bedroom and the pool and such easy access to the beach. The dishes and pots and pans were efficient for 5 guests. The guest in the East side had 4 children but very nice. Thank you for making our yearly sister trip very enjoyable .

Very Comfortable Vacation Home with Wonderful Pool!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely Love Emerald Isle and we will definitely be coming back to this home. You just can’t beat this pool with the views!!! We Loved the Oceanside pool, the new kitchenware, not usually so nice in other houses we stayed at, the Beach is clean, the two Oceanfront decks as well as the Oceanside sitting area right off the beach, the views from all the decks. We sat on the many decks for many hours, just taking in the views and the beautiful Sunsets. A very relaxing and enjoyable time was had by all. The beds were clean and comfortable and the house had all the amenities of home.

Thank you for letting us stay here!

the best of both worlds

  • 4 of 5

On days too hot to go to the beach, the pool meant we just kept enjoying Emerald Isle. What an amazing combination!

Great location with beachfront pool

  • 3 of 5

We are a family with 2 small children, 8 months and 2.5 years old. The large semi private pool provided a great convenience for us. It is in great condition and the pool service came in the middle of the week to ensure that it was clean. We enjoyed the house, although it is older and quite worn. The owner has done some updating, for example the bathrooms look updated with laminate flooring.

The kitchen is well stocked. This is important for families like ours, since we tend to cook our meals. Another convenience is the laundry room on the ground level.

One thing that bring down our rating is the extremely old mattresses throughout the house. (warning for people with back pain) The bedding is also old, spotted with stains etc. We encourage the owner to buy new mattresses and box-springs for all beds. The same goes for the bedding. By doing this simple updating the experience for future guests will be greatly improved. PLEASE update, it will go a long way!

The house and pool was clean when we arrived. Much better than we have seen at other rentals.

The owner is polite and informative on the phone. He want to make sure that he rents to responsible people.

Great beachfront duplex with nice pool

  • 5 of 5

Spent a week in late June / early July here with 9 other family members. Very comfortable lodging for 10. Kitchen sufficient to cook for the entire crew.

Pool was quite nice - one pool split between the 2 units. 75' walking access to great beach a short walk from fishing pier.

Very responsive property manager answered several questions within an hour each time.

A+
