Our 1100 square foot colonial is nestled among birch, maple and pine trees, overlooking Arbutus Lake #2. The house is fully furnished with 2 bedrooms downstairs and 1 huge loft upstairs with 3 beds. With 250 feet of woods to the north, enjoy a quiet campfire or listen to the Loons or look for the multiple pair of Eagles flying over the lake. Our three level decking structure faces east with a beautiful view of the lake, has a fire pit overlooking the beach, a dock to moor your boat and plenty of peace and quiet. You would not realize that Traverse City is just minutes away, with many places to dine, drink, dance, shop or just walk down main street and enjoy the people. Arbutus Lake is made up of 5 lakes with two no wake lakes for cruising and swimming, three all sports lake for skiing, tubing, fishing or just relaxing in the sun. The State Park is on lake # 4 as well as the boat launch. There are plenty of inlets to explore in a kayak, good constant wind for a small sailboat or calm enough for a paddle board. Traverse City has two peninsulas that offer winery tours, small lakeside towns to shop and visit, two major parks, lighthouse tours or just explore the many wonderful places along the shoreline.
After a year or two of taking our vacations at this place, we fell in love with the area, the location and the overall experience. Our eventual plan is to retire up here and completely renovate the Lake House. We upgrade things all the time to keep the place nice, but we still like to share the place"'as is" to our family, friends and a couple of weeks for people on this website to experience this wonderful area, it's beauty and the general wonderful piece of mind you get up here.
David Van Coillie purchased this house in 2002
We bought the property from my sister and brother in law, who bought the place from the original owner. We thought it was a good investment. Even though the original house is fairly old, built in the 1930's, we found out the house was renovated in the late 1970's with updated wiring and plumbing and a nice loft with a view of the lake. The proximity to Traverse City, the wineries and cherry orchards to visit make this an ideal location to visit anywhere around. Now it has become a staple in my family year after year for our vacations and getaways to enjoy as well as to share with family, friends and the few renters we enjoy having.
Relatively quiet peaceful lake. Not overly developed and most owners on the lake have been here a long time. It is nice that there are five overall lakes to enjoy and view the sites. There are two no wake lakes to cruise and enjoy the sites like the Loon nesting area where you can see a mother on her nest. The other three lakes are all sports, for skiing and tubing or just sitting in the sun and relaxing. It is a spring fed lake, very fresh and clear. You can see the bottom to fifteen feet, the fish swimming, the huge snapping turtle nesting nearby, the Loons swimming and diving for their food, the many Bald Eagles searching for their breakfast or dinner over the lake. So many activities so close by, yet feeling like your in the middle of 'Up North'.
The cottage was lovely and very comfortable. We had fun exploring the lake on our rented pontoon boat. Loved the lake. The only problem was the many stairs. They were a bit tough on this old lady! 😳
The beach house was very cute. Loved the beautiful sunrises in the morning. The whole family enjoyed themselves. Only negatives were having to pack the car full with our own sheets, blankets, pillows and towels. The other struggle was all the stairs that we had to maneuver with my mom and her cane, good exercise though.

Arbutus Lake is made up of 5 lakes, 2 no wake lakes and 3 all sports lake with water skiing, tubing, fishing, boating, jet skiing with kayaking a growing favorite. You can relax in the sun on various sandy beaches around the lakes or enjoy some Large/Small Mouth Bass fishing. Traverse City is 15 minutes away and provides additional entertainment for your golf, shopping or dining pleasures. There is a boat launch and State Park on Lake #4. Arbutus Lake is spring fed which affords a very clean and clear lake. Look for the Bald or Brown Eagle which swoops in for a fish dinner now and again.
