Long ago, the Ojibwe tribe once inhabited much of this beautiful area and many still live here. In Ojibwe, Aanii means “hello”; We welcome you to this wonderful little place where the past and present dance together in perfect step and a beautiful landscape of trees and rolling green hills commingle with small town life. Happily situated on 10 private acres in the woods just north of Duluth, the Aanii Vacation and Retreat House provides guests a sanctuary from the bustling world. A home that once raised a happy family, now provides others a loving place to reconnect with family and friends. This home features 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, a jacuzzi, brand new sauna, and plenty of space to stretch out. From my family to yours, we hope that your stay provides you with laughter and memories to last a lifetime.
Aanii, my name is Sally. I was born on the Iron Range and grew up in a small town north of Minneapolis where I owned and operated a beauty salon for 15 years. Our family moved to Duluth in 1999 and I returned to school in 2002 to get my healthcare degree. I turned our home into a vacation rental a few years ago because I love the privacy and remote setting this home offers.
Sally Shea purchased this house in 1999
I loved this home because its close to nature and provides many comfortable areas to relax indoor and outdoor. The property is on 10 acres and provides a quiet, comfortable experience for our guests. New hardwood floors make it great for Quilting and Crafting groups as we have rolling office chairs and folding tables to accommodate up to 10 group size. Separate living room with big screen TV, DVD player, Satellite TV and large comfortable leather couch with love seat and lounging chairs. The house has three levels so there is always a quiet space to relax, even with large groups.
Sauna room with shower - This was completed in early 2016 and has been a great addition to what we can provide for our guests.
The three decks provide enough space for large group retreats during the day and also a great place to enjoy a peaceful morning cup of coffee.
Camp Fire Area - Seating for 6 - 8 around a cozy camp fire. S'mores anyone?
Canal Park - Restaurants, gift and coffee shops, the board walk on Lake Superior. And be sure to experience the worlds only working Aerial Lift Bridge. Many Beaches and parks are further down after you cross over the bridge.
North Shore Scenic Route - Get a beautiful view of Lake Superior on the scenic route toward Two Harbors.
In the summer months, there are many scenic areas close to the property including Hawks Ridge for an awesome view of Lake Superior, and Seven Bridges Road where you can see many waterfalls and very interesting bridges (which runs to Lester Park and a unique swimming hole called, "the deeps," by the locals.) Great place to see the fall colors and enjoy the summer months.
In the winter months, The John Beargrease dogsled race runs within a few miles of the property. Snowmobile groups will enjoy the proximity of the C. J. Ramstad Minnesota trail which is 2 miles away.
For the Cross Country folks Korkki groomed ski trails are a short distance from the house. After a day in the woods come and warm your bones in the Sauna,a great way to relax and end the day.
THank you SALLY! For the perfect place. Our family of 12 felt right at home. Your house is beautiful and in a perfect location! We could not think of one thing that we needed that wasn't provided. It was great to have some yard space for our 4 little boys who enjoyed picking up sticks and putting them in the wagon. You were the PERFECT HOSTESS!!
There was plenty of room for our whole family and the house came with everything that we needed. Everyone had a great time.
We stayed at this home for 3 nights Labor Day weekend . It was very clean and well furnished with towele, blankets, kitchen items . We were inside one day due to rain and there was plenty of space for everyone . The owner was very easy to work with , whenever I had a question she would get back to be right away. We would definitely stay here again!
My family spent a week at the Aanii House and it was a great time. There is sooo much to do in the area that a week was not nearly enough time to see all my family was interested in.
The house fit our family so well with 15 of us being there and we had great bedrooms and plenty room for all we did. I especially liked the bathroom that was unattached from the house and in the sauna room. Everyone was able to shower and not wake the kids in the mornings.
Sally checked with us to make sure we had everything we needed but she has the place so well set up there was nothing that any of wanted for.
You can bet the next time I return to the Duluth area Sally will be the first person I will call. (I will return to finish seeing all we wanted to see)
It was a marvelous vacation stay - everything was perfect - everything worked - beds very comfortable.
Our Girls Weekend was in Duluth this year and we selected the Aanii House for our long weekend. The house is spacious and well stocked. There were plenty of beds and bathrooms for all 8 of us. Sally was great to work with and contact us several times to make sure we had everything we needed for the weekend. We would definitely stay here again if in Duluth, MN.
There are many attractions in Duluth, as exciting as Grandma's Marathon and the Bayfront Blues Festival to bird watching at Hawks and the season change with the wonderful autumn colors. What ever you are coming for, to relax or get involved It's a wonderful place. The history is also intriguing, Seven bridges road and the Glensheen Historic Estate or just going to one of the many beaches and soaking up the sun.
