The North Shore Lighthouse Suites are completely finished and now have new saunas. The building was a model of a lighthouse in Copper Harbor Michigan. Prior to our purchase of the property, in the fall of 2014, the building served as a quaint nautical themed restaurant.
♦ ♦ We now have an outdoor sauna....one for each suite. See the pictures ♦ ♦
It has now become two very spacious living quarters with all the comforts of home and more. Each unit has been named after two infamous Lake Superior Ships, the Fitzgerald and the Anderson. Each suite offers large master bedrooms with spacious bathrooms, including whirlpool tubs. The additional bedroom is also spacious and comfortable. The open floor plan for the kitchen and living room make it perfect for your group to unwind after a long day exploring the North Shore. Along with the cozy gas fireplaces, you will find your own large private patio. Equipped with furniture and gas grill. You will also find massive fire pits that will seat everyone in your group. No need to bring firewood, that is supplied free of charge. Need to do laundry? No problem, we have a washer and dryer conveniently located in each suite.
We can supply you maps of beautiful hiking trails with hidden waterfalls when you book with us. We are working on other "perks" as well.
For our winter guests there is the Korkki Nordic Ski trail a few miles from our suites and also a state snowmobile trail
Big groups or families can rent out both suites to accommodate up to 12 people!

We are business owners in Duluth MN. Every year we take our kids on a family vacation and rent through VRBO. It was a perfect fit for us because we didn't like being crammed in a small hotel room with 5 kids or the expense of getting 2 hotel rooms. We always talked about opening up a vacation rental and when the old Lighthouse Restaurant was for sale we knew exactly what we wanted to do with it!
Kathy Kunst purchased this house in 2014
The lighthouse suites are located between Duluth and Two Harbors, 150 yards from the shores of Lake Superior. This unique building was built in 2007 as a quaint nautical themed restaurant. When the business closed it's doors we were were able to purchase it with one thing in mind, to create one of the most unique and incredible places to stay on the North Shore.
We were able to take the wide open space of the building and sculpt it into 2 spacious suites. This allow us to rent them separately or together for large groups or families.
Our guests love the fact they can have lots of room to gather and relax in stead of hanging out in a hotel room.
The North Shore scenic railroad runs near the suites. The tracks are used for entertainment only
The house was just as advertised. Great space. Open concept. Loved the sauna!!
This was a girl's weekend trip of 4 teachers who have worked together for 20+ years. Last year we went to Napa Valley and following that decided to make it a yearly event but sometimes closer to home. After looking for places to stay, we landed on the North Shore Lighthouse Suites--Anderson Suite. The place exceeded our expectations. Kathy was quick to respond to our reservation and everything was exactly as promised. The place contained everything we needed for the weekend and the beds/linens/pillows were amazingly comfortable. We would definitely consider returning. Thank you Kathy!!!
We enjoyed our stay the property was well taken care of it was clean upon arrival, nicely stocked kitchen with spices, etc. The beds were comfortable, the pullout couch not so comfortable. We had neighbors and didn’t even know it except for the greeting in the entryway. Overall a great place to stay. We would come back. Thank you!
The amenities are nice and up to date. The large fire pit and sauna are great! Ideal location between Duluth and Two Harbors.
Everything was thought of for a home away feel. Very luxurious furnishings and fun history of the suites. Location was great for seeing fall colors.
We enjoyed a mid week stay (M-F) with good friends and had wonderful time, the suite was fairly new, well maintained and clean with much thought to the comfort of the guests. We were welcomed with little lighthouse chocolates along with a binder that contained the story of how the suites were built and all the information we needed to find our way around. Our host Pat even included a personal pull out flier with recommendations on what to see in Duluth complete with guided directions. While we did not do any major cooking the spacious kitchen was well stocked with everything we could have needed. The bed rooms were very roomy, the king sized bed comfortable and the bathroom towels thick and absorbent. We truly felt like guests in a friends home and were very much at ease making use of the wonderful sauna and the well stocked bonfire pit every night. Our hostess Kathy was easy to reach via text and was quick to respond to any inquiries and seemed genuinely concerned with our comfort. While the suites are located off hwy 61 they are set back enough that any passing traffic was only sightly noticeable while were were enjoying a bonfire and not at all while in the suites. We would all highly recommend this lovely establishment to anyone who would like to be conveniently located near Duluth and the scenic north shore yet feel like they were in the comfort of their own home. Would definitely stay here again the next time we visit the north shore.

When the business closed it's doors we were were able to purchase it with one thing in mind, to create one of the most unique and incredible places to stay on the North Shore. Nestled between little Sucker and Sucker rivers, the beauty is everywhere. Just a 15 minute drive from Duluth and 10 minutes to Two Harbors. Knife River is just 4 miles from the suites. This old fishing village has the famous Russ Kendall's smoked fish house and a family qwned candy shop that cannot be missed. There is also a marina. The McQuade safe harbor is a few miles away and has public access to Lake Superior. Tom's logging camp is a mile away. A great place to learn about the history of the lumberjacks and see some animals. A must see if you have children. The sucker river is one of the most beautiful rivers on the North Shore. It flies under the radar of visitors because it is not a state park. You'll find it a great place to explore and you might decide to jump in the many swimming holes it offers.
