About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath year-around cottage with view of the ponds

This cottage was designed as a year around home with central heat. It provides a quiet place to enjoy your vacation while being near a number of attractions and support services. The interior is all on one level. There is one step onto the porch and one step from the porch to the interior of the cottage. There are two bedrooms, each with a double bed, closet/wardrobe and a bureau. There are two full bathrooms, one with tub shower combination with a washer and dryer and one bathroom with a shower only. The fully equipped kitchen with electric stove & oven, full sized refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, etc. looks out on the west pond. The dining and living area has hardwood floors and views of both ponds (leafs permitting). During the occasional hot weather, good cross ventilation is enhanced by window fans. DSL internet access and local phone service, a 37" HD TV with blue ray player, and a few DVDs are provided. The screened-in front porch provides an alternate dining or sitting area with a view of the ponds. Twin Ponds was created by a glacier and is about 45 feet deep. There is a grassy boat dock and sandy play area. There is great fishing (VT fishing license required), a diving float and two boats available. Our 228 acre Christmas tree farm is available for hiking, bird watching and a complimentary farm tour can be scheduled.

About Lew Stowell

I Grew up in Chester, VT and graduated from Norwich University. Retired from the Vermont National Guard, the State of Vermont and now just operating the family Christmas tree farm. I live about 1/2 mile by Twin Pond Road from the cottage.

Lew Stowell purchased this cottage in 1958

Why Lew Stowell chose Brookfield

My father always wanted a trout pond. He cut wild Christmas trees on the property for many years and purchased the property for the family in 1958. In 1961 the family purchased the adjoining property which now has most of the Christmas tree fields. It turned out that Twin Ponds has a mix of fish that are not compatible with trout. The Pickerel and Large Mouth Bass eat small trout if they enter the ponds by either of the two brooks. Occasionally a larger surviving trout is caught. However the mix of fish (Large Mouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Perch and catfish) is desirable because at least one of the four main species are likely to bite sometime each day.

What makes this cottage unique

One of the most popular areas of the cottage is the screened-in porch. There is a glider and several chairs and a table so that your family can gather for meals, plug into power for extended laptop/tablet use, enjoy the view of the woods, lawns and ponds or just take a nap. The cottage is just high enough above the ponds to have a nice breeze but only a short walk from the beach and boats. The porch is also the home of Badminton, Croquet, big tubes, life vests, horseshoes and other outdoor fun items.
