This home was exactly what we were hoping for and more. We stayed for a long weekend in Fall. The view (and sounds) of the lake instantly helped us to relax! The stars at night were breathtaking. We came to go bass fishing and it was easy to pull in our truck and boat, plug in to charge, etc. Inside the home we enjoyed the huge fireplace and fires! There was plenty of wood and kindling all set to go for us so we could just enjoy our time. The kitchen was plenty equipped with what we needed. Great hot water for showers and bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the games available and watched DVDs in the TV. The owner was great to work with, checked up on things for us and we appreciated the information that was sent before our stay with ideas of things to do and overall info. We loved the island and enjoyed trying a couple of the restaurants. This was exactly the relaxing weekend stay we were hoping for. We would highly recommend this property!
We had an absolutely wonderful time here. We've barely pulled out of the driveway and I already miss it!
The house is simple, and has all of your basic needs. The kitchen is fully stocked, plenty of extra pillows, blankets, books, games and movies.
Above all else is the view. Pure beauty. I even enjoyed doing dishes just for the view facing me! My favorite part has got to be the bedroom patios. Even though we had fairly crummy weather, I still left the patio door open at night just to here the waves crashing.....And in hopes to see a sunrise, although the rain and clouds didn't much allow that.
Either way, we had the best time here on the island. Guaranteed we will be returning! My favorite quote we heard several times is "You're North of the tension line now" So incredibly true!
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us :)
My husband and I stayed for a week and it was more than we could have hoped for. We explored Washington Island on our rented mopeds, enjoyed evening fires, the peacefulness, and the waves lulled us to sleep. We also took the ferry to Rock Island and loved the boathouse and lighthouse. My husband is a vet so he especially enjoyed raising and lowering the flag each day. We found everything we needed at the nearby store so we didn't need to bring anything! The lavender store was amazing and I brought home many wonderful things for gifts. I highly recommend this location for vacation. You will arrive home refreshed and relaxed!
The Smardo property on Washington Island was a wonderfully therapeutic escape. The house is situated in the beautiful east side woodlands, right on the shoreline of the pristine Lake Michigan waters. Our gracious hosts, the Smardo's, made certain that we had everything that we needed to enjoy our perfect anniversary week. I cannot imagine a more relaxing place on earth than Washington Island, and this house perfectly ices the cake of tranquility. Thank you Bill and Jeanne, we will be looking forward to another stay in our future. Pleasantly above all of our expectations.
Could use a little updating, but adequate. Thanks for the videos. Great fun. Spacious. Gorgeous fireplace. Plates, glasses and silverware were fine; pots and pans kind of beat up. Coffee filters should be larger (#4 not # 2 , assuming you supply). Deck and outdoor furniture a bit dated. First step could use repair. The house mouse was friendly, visited us in bathroom and kitchen. Furniture was very nice, including the couches and dining room table set. We loved the wall of hooks; very useful. Wish the laundry worked, but no big deal. Good value. We'll be back. Thanks. The Todds
I thought that this 3 day vacation was great. I was really looking for some rest and relaxation, and your island cottage was amazing. My kids and I were awestruck at the remarkable fireplace and beauty of the cottage; real craftsmanship. I especially loved the quiet bike rides through the woods and seeing all the wildlife and beautiful features of the island. There is an energy there that is refreshing to the soul. Thanks for letting us stay there, and we will definitely consider staying there once again. Your recommendations for sightseeing were very helpful too.
Sincerely, David Hagglund
