Why Jessica chose Southeast Colorado

My parents purchased this property when I was just 3 years old and spending summers in Cuchara is one of my most treasured memories of growing up. Now with a career in real estate in Denver, many of my weekends are spent with clients which makes this an ideal rental. Come and enjoy - it's truly unique!

Nice get away

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Cuchara and we were very pleased with our surroundings and accommodations. The view of the mountains from the front balcony were spectacular and the the cabin was cloaked in pine trees which gave us the privacy that we desired. The cabin was in great shape and very comfortable to stay in. The bottom floor game room kept us entertained after days filled with hiking and fishing. We hope to come back next year.

Wow!! What an awesome place. Will be coming back for sure!!!

This was a great choice. It's setup nicely to seperate my teenage kids from the adults. No adults on the sleeper sofa it would be very uncomfortable. House was stocked with everything we needed. Some suggestions would be oven baking pans and make sure there are linens for the sleeper sofa. We never found any. No big deal, we made do. Game room is awesome, and playing the provided board games is a plus. There is some phone service for ATT and Verizon but no internet. This was perfect. We did not see any bears, but did see a deer behind the house. Cooked some awesome steaks we bought in town on the grill. Bring your paper plates if you don't like washing dishes, there is no dishwasher. No big deal, that is why I have kids. House is very close to town and eating places. If you need wifi you can sit in the parking lot of the Dogbar. Rent this house you will not be disappointed.

Nice but not luxurious

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay for the most part, nice cabin but not luxurious and somewhat dated. It was well stocked with everything we needed and what we didn't have the cleaning lady checked in us on the second day with supplies she had forgotten which we appreciated. Sort of disappointing that we couldn't have an open fire and the grill had a fair size hole in the lid. Colorado is always beautiful and refreshing!!

Owner's Response: Hi Trevor, The finishes are all original just as the photos and description show. We also made special accommodations with the cleaners for you to check in the same day another guest checked out which is not something we usually do. With the amount of trees around the home and in the neighborhood open flames are not allowed with the current conditions from the fire department. Thanks, Jessica

Beautiful and peaceful, the perfect getaway from the busy go go go of the city!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was the perfect mix of being just enough rustic but with plenty of accommodations for a comfortable stay. I really wanted my family to get away and just enjoy time together. The kids actually played together, the ping pong table and board games were perfect, and everyone got to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Cuchera is very charming, and bear lake and blue lake are breathtaking. And we absolutely loved getting to see the wildlife around the area. The cabin had everything we needed, even a little humming bird feeder where we got to watch them every morning. The kids are already asking when we get to go back!Would definitely recommend.

We Didn't See the Bear but Had Fun Anyway!

  • 4 of 5

Two couples spent a long weekend at the Mountain Retreat at Cuchara. We really picked a bad weekend - the weather was cool, rainy and cloudy on our first day here, but warmed up to a comfortable 63 degrees by our second day. Unfortunately, the fish we planned to catch didn't happen, due solely to the weather I am sure. :)

The home was clean, comfortable, and well stocked. The kitchen was functional and had plenty of utensils for cooking. We cook breakfast on our trips to Colorado, so the griddle available was very handy. We sat on the balcony and enjoyed the view of the Peaks, when weather permitted. Fortunately, the giant windows face the same view, so we were able to enjoy the mountains even when it was too cold or rainy to sit outside.

If you like wildlife, you will likely see it here. We watched turkey cross the county road just down from the house, and then watched a young deer graze almost up to the back of the house the next day. On a hike nearby, I spotted what looked like a bear print - but I am no boy scout, so I may be wrong. However, we did hear that there is a bear in the area, so maybe!

Something I neglected to consider before renting this nice home is the amount of stairs involved. Aside from the lower level, which has only a bathroom with a shower, everything else requires a pretty hefty climb. We joked that we got our workout while we were there, but one of our group really struggled with them. Consider stairs when renting this cabin.

Still, it was not the fault of the owner - she presents all the details in her pictures and descriptions of the home. It just wasn't something we thought about until we had to climb two flights of stairs (one a circular stairway) to put our luggage away. Whew! And you know, the one thing you forgot in the car? Well, it may not be all that important after all.

Owner's Response: Glad to hear y'all enjoyed your stay! Definitely lots of stairs as the photos show.. and part of the reason it's not suitable for young kiddos. Thanks again! Jessica
