|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Stunning views abound at our secluded river front home. If you want peace and quiet and a chance to sit in the river and relax - this is your spot! The house has two bedrooms upstairs. There is one queen bed, one full sized bed and a twin fold away bed, there is room on the floor for a queen air bed if you wish. Kitchen is fully appointed. Huge deck with table for 8. We are nestled against the side of the mountain and have beautiful views of the river and area mountains. We back up to state land, are just minutes away from hiking opportunities including the Northville-Lake Placid Trail and area mountains to name a few. The river is stocked every spring with Trout. Very picturesque and relaxing.
The town of Wells is a quaint town and the residents are very friendly. We're very close to Lake Algonquin which has a public, sandy beach with public parking and restrooms. The beach has a lifeguard during afternoon hours. There are tennis courts and the occasional summer concert at the town hall. There is also the "Revival" (previously a church) where concerts are held. Access to the Northville - Lake Placid trail is a couple miles down the road leading to our house, from here you can take marked hikes to the Suspension Bridge and Piseco Lake and beyond! There are also dozens of other hikes you can take within 10-15 miles of the house. In Wells there is a diner, a small general store and and Torts Twist Ice Cream shop that also sells wood for the fire.
Everyone who comes to Wells falls in love with the area. We hope you will too!
We have been enjoying this home for ten years - since our children were 4 & 5. About four years ago we got Max our Cocker Spaniel and he LOVES the river as much as us! People of all ages love visiting our home and the relaxation the river provides.
Tina Hinson purchased this house in 2005
As a child I went camping at the Sacandaga River Campground every year. Many happy years I spent finding a swimming hole and rock hopping just a mile or two from this house!
We all find peace here at the house. Whether we are sitting on the large deck, in an Adirondack chair by the fireplace or actually sitting on a rock or chair in the river we are able to forget about the fast pace of life and slow down a little. The river is usually calm enough for toddlers and older folks to feel comfortable getting in.
It is a perfect rustic retreat on a dead-end no traffic road. It was a great place to bring our dog for a week long recharge. The owner was very nice and available, but not intrusive. The sound of the river running over the rocks was very soothing. The dog was afraid of the water at first, but soon had fun splashing and chasing sticks. The water at this time was shallow and great for small children and pets. Restaurants and other such amenities are a car ride away, but you have those things close at home. Going to the Adirondacks should be about getting away from home. All in all, it was a very good pick for us and we would do it again given the choice.
This place is great. My family and our pets thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be returning. The house was very comfortable. The view was absolutely breathtaking.
This is a wonderful property to stay.
The river is directly across with large rocks/boulders to travel across into the center of the river.
The A-frame is well maintained, clean and contains all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay. The water takes a while to heat up, but other than that, I found no issues staying here.
The backdrop is forest and allows for easy exploration.
Close drives for hiking beautiful terrain along the Sacandaga river or just enjoy the views of Algonquin Lake.
Very private. My dog ran freely without interuption of strangers crossing his path.
I will definitely return to this property.
A secluded cottage in the woods, peaceful and surrounded by nature, wood, river and 3 miles close lake is the idyllic image for us when planning a trip to the Adirondacks. Walk outside and listen to the sound of Sacandaga River, "smell the fresh woods fragrance in the air and renew your soul. Imagine waking, making the morning coffee, and simply stepping outside onto your own personal deck and directly into the tranquil Adirondack scenery!"
This is one of the advantages of renting a cabin or cottage of your very own. You can spend a day discovering surrounding places and then come back to relax in your own peaceful little world of Adirondack Zen.
My husband and I chose this place because it was one of the few that we could find that had the feeling of being private and remote, while still easily accessible and close to town and because it's pets friendly! Our tiny 5 yrs old dog Brooklyn travels with us almost everywhere, and she was in heaven! She barely wanted to stay inside the cottage, always with us! What a stunning view and area! Fishing was the Best!
Tina's description of place and amenities is very accurate :)! Home/ cottage is very well managed, clean, maintained! All described amenities were perfect, patio, deck, bbq grill, bedrooms, kitchen, shower, fridge... , except the WiFi - during our stay didn't work, but hey - even better, that's what we needed, to recharge our batteries! Away from it for a few days while fishing, talking, grilling, walking around, listen to the sound of birds and nature and at night - we were starring at the sky, at the stars, counting them for hours! We had such an romantic awesome time in Wells!
We enjoyed the beautiful view overlooking the river from the patio and quietness and nature further. The cottage itself is well equipped, cozy and clean. If you want to escape and experience the serene side of the Adirondacks, we recommend this place! Locals in town are very friendly and nice!
Tina is wonderful and very accommodating, very communicative and super sweet & nice! She helped us very prompt with all information and concerns. We will recommend this place to all our friends and family and will definitely return soon! Great 4 nights along Sacandaga River :)! Thank You, Tina!
Clean, well managed, comfortable home. Full of everything you need to enjoy a relaxing experience next to a scenic river.
Well managed gravel roads lead to this peaceful refuge.. The river is an ambient, continuous sound that is just loud enough to lull you to sleep inside the home... (No louder than a low running fan) and outside is still low enough to have a normal conversation (even when you're standing in it)... The water was warm and inviting (though the rocks could be slippery)... Took long walks (with our dog) on the road, along the river... through the woods and even across the river were very enjoyable. People in the area were pleasant and very friendly... The owner(s) maintained correspondence with us up to our visit with helpful information and concern for our enjoyment for our vacation...
Thank you Tina for everything!
We spent three days at this cabin. It was well furnished and had everything we needed. The cabin was comfortable and we enjoyed the beautiful view of the river while we ate, whether we chose to be indoors or outdoors on the large deck. The river was easy to access. We spent several hours sitting on the rocks reading and sitting in the water relaxing. We would have preferred to have sheets and towels provided because we were traveling from Illinois and already had a lot of luggage with us. Fortunately, our daughter was able to supply them for us. It was nice to be in such a remote area and still have WiFi available. We spent a lot of time hiking in the area. The towns of Wells and Speculator eres able to supply everything we needed, including the occasional ice cream cone.
