North Captiva Island, Florida

NORTH CAPTIVA ISLAND

Thank you for inquiring about Winterhaven bounded by the Gulf of

Mexico on one side and Pine Island Sound on the other. We are on a

barrier island just west of Fort Myers, Florida. We're 500 acres of

state wildlife preserve ... offering world renown shelling,

subtropical foliage and trees, a look at over 100 species of

migrating nesting birds as well as endangered marine life.

Dolphins

and manatee play off our shores on this private island. We have

neither public boat docks or public facilities. There are no bridges

to connect us to the mainland. We are a vanishing breed, one of the

last true out islands in the United States. We have 4 miles of the

most beautiful, serene beaches to be found anywhere on this earth.

THE WINTERHAVEN

Just seconds from the beach, our fully-furnished home offers unique

inverted style living. The first floor, set on top of 10 foot

pilings

has 2 bedrooms, 2 screened-in porches and 2 baths. On the second

floor you will find a spacious living and dining area with cathedral

ceiling. An entire wall made up of sliding glass doors and windows

facing the Gulf not only gives you a spectacular view of the

water and those beautiful sunsets but also allows access to an

expansive sun deck.

One of the beautiful features of this island is that no motor

vehicles are allowed. Transportation on the island is an

electric golf cart. Of course, you can always use the oldest

form

of transportation - foot power.

GETTING TO NORTH CAPTIVA

Fly into Fort Myers ... take a cab or rent a car to Pineland Marina

on Pine Island. Before you leave home call the management company.

Tell them what time your plane arrives and they will tell you where

to

stop for provisions on the way to the water taxi. At the dock you

will be greeted by a representative of the

management company who will transport your luggage and

provisions to the house.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD?

Our home has a fully equipped kitchen. Best to bring your own

provisions ... cook at home ... life is casual. There are 3

restaurants on the island that offer casual dining for breakfast,

lunch and dinner and a general store for necessities. For your

convenience, prior to your arrival, you may have our house

stocked with your provisions for a nominal fee.

and they will tend to the problem. We do not provide daily maid

service unless you request it. There will be an additional charge

for

that.

Very nice rental in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We've been to North Captiva Island a couple of times and love the location that Winter Haven is in. Only a minute or two walk to the best beach on the island (short of the one in the nature preserve further South). The rental was clean and we'll stocked. Having satellite TV on those non beach days was a plus. Overall a great value.

perfect family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We came here for a spring break with 3 teenagers, everyone had wonderful time. House is very close to the beach. Everything we needed for cooking was there. We brought all food with us, as we were advised, and it all worked out. Filtered water was a big plus! You can spend all the time outside, or even relaxing on one of two balconies with a book... Watching sunsets at the beach was one the the favorite events. It is a place to relax and recharge. Happy with our stay.

Family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time on the Island. The house worked well for our family of 5 (included 2 adult children and 1 teen). It was very neat and comfortable. It was well supplied with necessities that you wouldn't think to pack like coffee filters, spices, tin foil, etc. It was in a good location - very close to a nice beach. The pool access was also very nice. This is very close to the nature preserve entrance where we took long hikes. We loved all the tortoises! Of course, the golf cart was great too. We were very happy a beach umbrella was provided. The only thing I would suggest is upgrading the beach chairs. They have seen better days and are pretty important for an island beach vacation. Overall, great place to stay.

North Captiva is a beautiful island and we loved how quiet yet fun it was!

  • 4 of 5

The property is very nice. We enjoyed it and loved having the use of a golf cart to easily get around. It takes some planning and understanding that there is not much in the way of food to buy on the island so definitely plan your grocery shopping ahead along w the taxi and charter. Once you learn the ropes it's a great getaway without all the crazy tourist feel. The shelling is the best I have ever seen.

Nice clean house!

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time on the island and also a first for renting a house. The manager and everyone we worked with were all extremely helpful. The house was very clean and well kept on the inside. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated everything that came with the house especially things we couldn't travel with on the plane. The sand toys, towels and even things that other visitors left came in very handy. We left things that we couldn't take with us and hoped they help the next guests. We were extremely grateful to the cleaning staff that were able to find something we had left behind that was very important to us and they made sure we got it back.

The beach was great for shell collecting and the club pool was nice and not crowded whenever we were there. I would have liked to see the general store a little better stocked and maybe a playground for kids to play at.
