About Hannah Wallace

We purchased the property in 2001 and started building the log house in 2003, after designing it and finding a builder. The house is a vacation - retirement house, with my main residence currently being Philadelphia. I'm a retired Social Worker/ Family Therapist, having been the founder and Executive Director of an international adoption agency for almost 30 years.

Hannah Wallace purchased this chalet in 2001

Why Hannah Wallace chose Downeast and Acadia

I've been vacationing in Maine for years, having a sister who lives outside of Belfast, where I vacationed with my children until they were grown. After spending some summers renting, I always wanted to have a log home in the woods and started looking. When we first saw the land at Raccoon Cove, we were overwhelmed with the beauty and privacy of the 'Cove', yet close to Lamoine Beach, Ellsworth, and Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Through the years, the peace and serenity of the area, the beauty of the house, remain totally engaging and renewing.

What makes this chalet unique

We love looking out the window walls at the changing panorama of the tidal beach. At sunrise, we get a tremendous colorful view, with the sun reflecting on the water. At sunset, the reflection from the west creates a mystical, muted scene. Even after 10 years, the house soothes with its beauty. It's fun to cook in the large kitchen and eat outdoors on the deck, or grill and eat on the deck looking out at the water. The secluded wooded setting with the opportunity to walk or sunbathe on the wild secluded beach is rare. When the water is partially out, long flat rocks are exposed, perfect for sunbathing. The shallow water, warmed by the mud flats, is great for splashing and wading. When water is further out, mud flats are great for clamming and musseling. when the water is fully in, can kayak in this private, protected cove.

Comfortable, well-equipped house in a gorgeous location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute of our stay and hope to come back for a longer stay next year. The house is in a quiet, secluded spot on Frenchman Bay. The main part of Acadia National Park is a 20 minute or so drive, and the drive to the beautiful and much less crowded Schoodic Penninsula section takes about the same amount of time. The town of Ellsworth is close by for shopping. The house is so nice you may not want to go anywhere else! Loved it.

Coves End

  • 4 of 5

Our second time staying at Cove's End and plan to return. We love the private location, yet close enough to Bar Harbor and plenty of places for lobster! The sunsets are incredible.

Beautfiful Home/Peaceful Location

  • 5 of 5

Cove's End is a gorgeous log home, very spacious with all the amenities you will need! It is right on the cove, so waking up to the beautiful view was amazing. We enjoyed coffee on the large, wraparound deck every morning.

It is about 25/30 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, so we did do a lot of driving back and forth, but wanted to be away from the crowds and truly enjoyed the peaceful, serene location. (FYI, the last week in June was perfect time to go, there were no crowds:) Acadia National Park is stunning. some of the most beautiful scenery we have ever seen. And the owner was great to deal with, extremely nice and helpful. Definitely recommend!

Great place... The six of us were very happy with the location.

  • 5 of 5

The bay in front is pretty. There's lots of room in the cabin and the hot tub up stairs helps out after hiking Cadillac mountain. Bar Harbor is about half an hour away and a neat ride. Five out of five in my book.

Our property is almost at the end of Lamoine Peninsula, 10 miles

downeast of Ellsworth, off of route 184. From the Lamoine Beach (5

minute walk)there are views of Mount Desert Island and Acadia Park.

Lamoine Beach is one of the few natural sand beaches in Maine. They

have picnic tables and barbecues, and a boat launch, kayak rental and

lessons. All along this

peninsula there are small coves and beaches for swimming with

dramatic views and very few people. Getting to Bar Harbor, through

back roads, eliminates the traffic crunch of route 3. Bar Harbor is

about 20 miles away. Trenton, the gateway to Acadia is only 8 miles

away. A network of private roads are perfect for hiking or biking.
