A cozy second-floor, one-bedroom hideaway with a full eat-in kitchen, a nice bath and a sweet balcony for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The unit has a terrific new queen bed, fresh linens and fluffy towels. The location is ideal - two blocks from Tulane and Loyola and five blocks from the St. Charles Avenue streetcar. We're also a short walk from Audubon Park and the Zoo and to the cafe street-life of Maple Street and Oak Street. We're also very close to a few only-in-New Orleans neighborhood gems like The Adams Street Grocery, Plum Street Snowballs and the Snake and Jake Christmas Club Lounge.
My wife and I moved to New Orleans on a six-month stop to other places. That was twenty-five years ago - we're still here and we love it. We live next door to the property with our kids and our dog and consider, as people do here, any visitor to be a member of the family.
Eli purchased this apartment in 2007
Great spot for getting to experience a different side of the city than normal. The place is functional and comfortable. Bed and linens are great. The main drawbacks were that the door knob to the front porch was broken and we had a hard time using the space because of it. Also, students renting the other units stay up really late and are noisy on occasion . Otherwise, the place is great and we enjoyed our stay.
The Riverbend Balcony was a perfect location for us. My husband and I had a class reunion and wanted to be close to Tulane. It was only 2-3 blocks from campus and was only 4-5 blocks from Maple Street restaurants and bars. We were able to walk to breakfast on Maple St then walk for drinks in the evening. There is a small grocery store less than a block away where we could buy a few essentials.
The house itself is a fourplex. This apartment is a one bedroom with a full kitchen and bathroom. I found it much more spacious than a hotel room and it was nice having the fridge for snacks and milk. The balcony was a nice place to have coffee or a glass of wine.
The biggest reason that I gave it only 3 stars is because the bathroom was filthy: the toilet was gross inside and out, the tub hadn't been scrubbed in a while, the vanity drawers were full of hair and powder which got all over my clothes, the mirror had someone else's toothpaste spray. Chris was very kind to replenish the bar of bath soap and toilet paper but I felt these items should've been stocked. The rest of the house was clean enough if you didn't look in the corners or touch the ledges.
The bed was comfortable with nice linens. A dresser or chest of drawers would've been nice to be able to store clothing- we felt that there was not enough storage space overall.
Chris was very attentive and responsive to our questions and requests. Check in was simple.
This property is in a fantastic location and we enjoyed the balcony on our down time. The owner was easy to deal with and checked on our needs after the first night of our stay. He also was prompt in returning our damage deposit without being asked. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it wasn't as clean as most places are. After talking with the owner about the cleanliness, I do think he'll make sure it's better next time. It has a comfortable bed, plenty of hot water for showers, coffee and filters (I especially appreciated that) and was furnished as stated. We did wish for a second chair inside and more tv channels choices. I can recommend this place as long as you know it's not for sitting in front of the tv. It is NOLA after all, and you don't need much tv time!
Great location, very cute little place, and had everything we needed. Only complaint was it being rather dusty/dingy in places. The floors and fridge could use a good scrub.
The owners made themselves very available to us and were quickly responsive whenever I messaged them.
Would highly recommend staying here!
I greatly enjoyed the apartment and the neighborhood. I took the trolley downtown and was able to walk to restaurants and other businesses just blocks away. Great walks to Tulane and the Audubon Park. A wonderful base of operations from which to experience NOLA.
My wife and I were in New Orleans for a conference at Tulane, and this cozy upstairs apartment couldn't have been more convenient. It isn't luxurious, but was quiet, pleasant, safe, and laid back in the New Orleans style, and very comfortable for the two of us. It's only 3 blocks from the Tulane campus and - in the other direction - only few blocks more to the St. Charles trolley on Carrollton Avenue, which takes you downtown through the lovely uptown and Garden District neighborhoods. We used the trolley several times and didn't bother with a rental car as we usually do when traveling. The Oak street area (one block below the apartment and across Carrollton) has interesting shops, cafes, and a variety of good restaurants. Maple Street - also in walking distance - has even more. The friendly owners live nearby, made themselves available if needed, and were very helpful with information on the neighborhood. In general, a nice touch of uptown, university-style living. We'll be back.
