Welcome to Glengrove Guesthouse! We are located on 10 acres in the beautiful forested mountains of Barriere, British Columbia. The air is fresh, and nature and animals are abundant. It’s truly paradise, and we would love to share it with you!
Our newly updated guest rooms feature cherry laminate flooring, soft linens, and fluffy duvets. We have two keyed rooms, each with two single beds; therefore, we can accommodate a total of four guests (only two beds are listed on VRBO to allow our other booking providers access to the other two). The rooms and large shared guest bathroom are upstairs, with the kitchen and common room on the main floor. Our own bedroom and bathroom is located on the main floor. A washer and dryer are available. Free wireless internet is included, as well as a large television in the common room, with basic channels and a DVD player. Plus, we have a large selection of board games!
We have a spacious kitchen for shared use with us and other guests, outfitted with fridge/freezer, ceramic top stove, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. Tea and coffee are complimentary. The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware and dishes, allowing you to prepare your own meals.
We are a non-smoking home. We have one medium (50lb) terrier dog (low allergy risk) and a couple horses.
Glengrove is an acreage subdivision located 7km off of Highway 5, 10 minutes southeast from the town of Barriere (1200 people), and 45 minutes north of the city of Kamloops, British Columbia (85,000 people). Glengrove Road is not a through road, so there is only local traffic and the neighbourhood is very quiet.
In Barriere, you will find all essential services including groceries, a drugstore with pharmacist, a doctor’s office with a small emergency department, a fire station, a library, a post office, a bank, a few restaurants, and many small shops. We have several parks, a golf course, a curling rink, ball fields, tennis courts, and impressive rodeo grounds with a new indoor arena Agriplex.
Please note that no public transit is available other than Greyhound bus service to Barriere, which arrives at 1:00am from Kamloops. For backpackers without a car or air travellers on Westjet or Air Canada, we may be able to pick you up in Kamloops for a fee. Highway 5 continues north through to Clearwater, Blue River, Vavenby, and then Jasper, Alberta to the east. We are halfway between Vancouver and Jasper — it is four hours driving time to either destination, so we are a perfect stopover point.
Several beautiful lakes are nearby (as close as 10 minutes away), all great for swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Forest Lake, Johnson Lake (nicknamed “The Caribbean of the North” due to its incredible clarity and blue colour), Adams Lake, and East and North Barriere Lake are the most popular to visit. 45 minutes to the north is Wells Grey Provincial Park, renowned for its extensive hiking trail and numerous waterfalls, including the 141m Helmcken Falls. If you want to go whitewater rafting, we’ve had great experiences on the river with both Interior Whitewater Expeditions in Clearwater and Adams River Rafting near Scotch Creek, and would highly recommend them.
Barriere is popular for the North Thompson Fall Fair on Labour Day weekend every year, as well as the Provincial Winter Fair, the Celebration of Rural Living, and 4H and horse shows. For those seeking a trail ride on a guest ranch, Tod Mountain Ranch, about 30 minutes away, is an excellent choice. If mountain biking is your thing, the Kamloops area has several options. Chinook Cove is a 9 hole, championship length golf course a few minutes north of Barriere.
In the winter, Sun Peaks Resort is less than an hour away via a back road, and offers downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. You can ski-doo right off of our property, as well as in many surrounding areas. There are also local cross-country ski trails.
Chris and I live on an acreage in the mountains of BC with our adorable Irish Terrier. I'm a professional photographer and Chris is a joiner/cabinet-maker. We enjoy anything outdoors, love animals, and enjoy meeting people from around the world!
