Wow Wow Wow. So perfect for our Grand Canyon trip. Even in Mid-August.

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing. Perfectly clean. We loved that it was 15-minutes to downtown Williams, and 45 minutes to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Extremely quiet and peaceful. Even though this is not overlooking the canyon, the canyon is very touristy, and we loved that this bunkhouse was removed from all the hustle and bustle of the tourists at the resorts. Did I mention clean? It felt like a brand new cabin! High-quality everything. Wife and I enjoyed the sunrise every morning on the large balcony. One morning, we just opened the french-doors and watched it from bed. Beautiful night sky. You can see the Milky Way clearly. Highly highly recommend going on the train ride from Williams to the Grand Canyon. Spend the extra $$ for the luxury seating... you will LOVE it!!! Oh, the dog.... so so so sweet and adorable. He slept under my truck at night and came out with his tail wagging in the morning. Very loving. The sound system is quite confusing, but we weren't there enough for that to be an issue. The kitchen sink is small, so if you do any grilling or cooking, use disposable plates or be prepared to wash dishes for a long time. Phone signal is ok. There are some dead spots, but just stand on 1 foot and tilt your head and you'll be fine. GOOGLE MAPS on an iPhone using AT&T DOES WORK!!! It led us right to the motorized front gate. This place is spectacular. The photos in the listing are very accurate.

Nice retreat, but involved and convuluted instructions

  • 3 of 5

The place is fairly easy to get to off of 64, at least if approaching in the daytime. It is centrally located if you want to visit the Grand Canyon: only about 15 minutes from William and 45 minutes to the Grand Canyon. The town of Williams, on Route 66, has quaint stores and good restaurants - worth a visit. The only off-putting thing really was that there is a laundry list of things to attend to after reserving the place and when checking out, and I felt like I was on eggshells to make sure everything was done correctly. I felt like the instructions assumed you were going to leave things a mess, rather than assuming you are going to do the right things, and I felt that was condescending. I guess a hearty 'thank you!' sprinkled in a few times with all the instructions would have felt great. The instructions included how to leave the sheets, don't lose the remote control!, TV volume, can't use fire pit or weight lifting equipment, don't use much water, take garbage out, etc. that I was sure I was going to mess up and not get our cleaning deposit back. FYI- you'll pay a sizeable cleaning deposit (is that standard for VRBO? This is my first time renting), which you will get back, unless you don't leave the place spic and span. We ended up getting all of our deposit back, but the tone of the instructions put me on edge. Once settled in, I had just a couple of issues/questions, and the property manager was very responsive about answering them as they came up. All of that said, the house itself is solid and cute and a good retreat. It's furnished with a comfortable couch set, a pool table, a queen bed in each room (but they could get rid of all the fussy bed pillows, in my humble opinion), and two bathrooms. There's a stove and microwave. Keep the windows shut because the owner's dogs barked off and on all night, but that's not a problem if the windows are shut and the AC on. Very peaceful. Not the cheapest place, but it's basically a luxury cabin, and comfortable, quiet, and centrally located.

Owner's Response: Amy I'm so very sorry that you felt that the check out list was so bad that we were worth such a low star rating. This is a common check list for Homeaway and VRBO vacation rental. We use vacation rentals all the time and they are all very similar. In Two years this would be the first time we have ever had a complaint about the House Rules . Guests that stay with us love that the rooms are set up the way they are it's part of the reason we do get such good reviews. We do our best to go above and beyond for our guests I wish you had called me with your concerns, I had no idea that there was an issue with the dog. I can't fix it if I don't know about it. I think sometimes people forget that a vacation rental is someones home and it's not a lot to ask to have guest take care of the property . We don't allow guests to use our fire pit because of the fire danger and it is right next to our home and the work out area is for our family use. Again other guest have totally understood why we have this set up this way.

We loved ourcstay in the bunkhouse. Everything is provided in the house. The pooltable is a very nice extra. We loved the view from the deck at the back of the house. There was even a bbq provided! The bathrooms were lovely and the beds very comfortable.

Well kept, great location, a beautiful, quiet getaway from the travel commotion

Well kept, great location, a beautiful, quiet getaway from the travel commotion. Waking the first morning to elk bugles and coyote songs reminded us how lucky we were to be just a little removed from it all.

Better than expected

  • 5 of 5

Not having been to northern AZ before, I was a little concerned about the location of this property - but it is in a perfect location! It's a very short drive into Willliams, AZ, which is a quite charming community - full service grocery store, all sorts of restaurants, and we even had a chat with the mayor over breakfast. Easy 45 minute drive to the Grand Canyon. 45 minutes to Flagstaff (a little more to the ski resort). And only about 1 1/2 hours to the meteor crater (which is a MUST SEE!).

But the best thing about The Bunkhouse is the VIEW!!! We were blown away when we first walked out the back door. We spent every evening relaxing on the large back deck enjoying the stars (if you haven't seen the Milky Way before, you can't miss it here), and every morning sipping coffee while we watched the rabbits, humming birds, ravens, and other wildlife.

And the pool table was really fun since we don't have one at home.

The cabin itself was very clean and nicely decorated. It's not a 5 star hotel, but it has everything you need and everything worked properly.

My one other suggestion... make sure you ride the Grand Canyon Railway. It's a great way to spend a day. And you can see the train going to and from the Grand Canyon from The Bunkhouse.
