Why Debbie Newcomer, Property Manager/Owner chose Emmitsburg

We purchased this property with the intention of making it a B&B after retirement. The location is so private, peaceful and scenic yet it is close to so many Maryland attractions. The perfect spot! We love this beautiful, historic property and are happy to share it with those who are seeking a quiet retreat and some much needed R&R!

What makes this cottage unique

Direct access to the scenic Monocacy River and the historical feel of this property made it love at first sight for us. Spacious and secluded yet only minutes from great restaurants and entertainment made this a must have for us.

Great cottage in the woods

  • 5 of 5

My family of 7 was looking for a place to spend a few quiet days out in the country and Engedi Estate was just perfect. The cottage is extremely well-maintained and everything is neat and clean. Plenty of linens and towels plus the owners stock the kitchen with many nice extras like coffee, pens and paper, firewood (and lighter fluid!), and charming period lanterns (LED, of course). The kitchen is outfitted with all the appliances you would need and the central AC is simply delicious.

Our kids loved using the provided canoes, lifejackets, and paddles, out on the Monocacy River. They also got to try their hand at building a fire in the fire pit and roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. It was also fun to go over and watch the alpacas next door. Our kids take up a lot of space so even though the cabin sleeps 7 that includes two shared beds and we didn't all fit. It worked out though because there are plenty of extra cushions and recliners to sleep on, so everyone found a spot in the end.

We had a fantastic time and would certainly want to come back again!

Beautiful, quiet setting, centrally located for seeing historic sites

  • 5 of 5

This property is well-equipped and maintained. The setting is quiet, pretty and charming. The cottage overlooks the river and woods, and the morning birdsongs are pretty much the only sounds you'll hear (and they're lovely!). The kitchen had everything we needed (and then some), and all the rooms were cozy and nicely furnished. We loved the quirky old house character: the stairway, the old stone fireplace, the deep threshold in the doorway, and other spots where the original features could be glimpsed; the owner thoughtfully had a binder there with the history of the property and associated family - just the kind of thing us history buffs appreciate. Best of all, this property is located just a quick drive from Gettysburg and all it's sites, but ALSO a host of other historic sites: we made trips to Harper's Ferry, Antietam and several national forests and canals, all surprisingly quick drives. Bottom line, we loved how efficient the location was, and appreciated the quiet, natural setting to relax in when we returned from busy days of touring.
