About the property

Cottage on Kinderhook Lake sleeps 2-4

We invite you to spend a relaxing weekend or week at our cottage on Kinderhook Lake. Our dock provides access for kayaking and canoeing. You can relax on the deck and watch the sun set over the lake. This lake was once the home of "Electric Park", one of the first public amusement parks in the US having electric rides in the early 20th century. You'll be close to many theater and music venues in Albany (30 min.), Chatham (10 min.), and up and coming Hudson (20 min.). Hudson is a lively scene for music, (Club Helsinki), antiquing, restaurants, and a wide variety of shopping. The summer season at Tanglewood is a short scenic drive to the Berkshires, and Saratoga is about an hour north. The Hudson River Art Trail is nearby: Olana, the home Frederick Church built above the Hudson River, (www.olana.org) and Cedar Grove, at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. (Thomascole.org and hudsonriverschool.org) The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a short drive away.(oldrhinebeck.org) Check out the Hudson RIver Ramble: hiking, biking, ride or paddle - hudsonrivervalleyramble.org. The classic Crandall Theater and PS 21 (outdoor theater) are in Chatham. There is strawberry picking in June, and several apple orchards offer pick your own and award-winning cider doughnuts. The Old Chatham Sheepherding Company, located in the lovely horse country of Old Chatham, sells world-renowned sheep cheese and yogurt. The Columbia Land Conservancy offers hikes around the county. Come relax and enjoy fishing, hiking, golf, Hudson river ferry tours (Hudson Cruises) , and more. Enjoy Columbia County.

We had a perfect couples getaway at Gail's cottage. All of the amenities were exactly as advertised. The lake is gorgeous. The kayaks are priceless, and the view from the porch is serene. We enjoyed the fire pit and the reading nooks, too. What a sweet place.

Wonderful Anniversary!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely anniversary celebration at Kinderhook Lake Cottage. Everything was perfect from the mild mid October weather to the all the details that Gail and her husband obviously see to. The cottage is immaculate with all the amenities you could ask for including a magnificent view of the lake indoors and out. We loved it. Thank you Gail!

Property was well taken care of, and had all the amenities one would need. Great views of the lake, and had two kayaks, and a canoe with safety vest. Everything one would need to enjoy the water. The owner was personable, and very helpful. I would rent this location again!

Uniquely beautiful, peaceful, comfy, cozy cottage right on the water!

We loved this gorgeous oasis on the lake!

The cottage is lovely, spotless and very comfortable in every way. Gail is a perfect hostess and has thought of everything a guest could ask for and more. The lake views, the incredible Hudson Valley lighting and cloud formations are spectacular. This place is a gem and I recommend it whole-heartedly!

1st timers trying Home Away... Great experience

  • 5 of 5

Being our first experience with Home Away – we did not know what to expect. After arriving and meeting with Gail, we knew we made a good choice. The quaint clean cottage provided us with the basic essentials and more. It is located on a wonderfully tranquil part of the lake. The large windows facing the lake made for a nice relaxing place to wake up to and /or play a game of Monopoly when it rained. Although the weather was not ideal for swimming, we enjoyed kayaking, and hanging out on the hammock, dock, and porch. We spent many days exploring surrounding nearby historical sites, museums, local country stores and even the County Fair. Communication was key. Gail had great suggestions and was very accommodating. We had a few questions and a couple minor issues/needs… Gail and her husband were right on it.

Our 8 yr. old daughter gives 5 stars for the cottage’s fun cozy loft, the fire pit s’mores, hammock swinging, and the fairy rock houses she built by the water’s edge.

We all enjoyed ourselves. We hope to return. Thank you. M, W and I
