We invite you to spend a relaxing weekend or week at our cottage on Kinderhook Lake. Our dock provides access for kayaking and canoeing. You can relax on the deck and watch the sun set over the lake. This lake was once the home of "Electric Park", one of the first public amusement parks in the US having electric rides in the early 20th century. You'll be close to many theater and music venues in Albany (30 min.), Chatham (10 min.), and up and coming Hudson (20 min.). Hudson is a lively scene for music, (Club Helsinki), antiquing, restaurants, and a wide variety of shopping. The summer season at Tanglewood is a short scenic drive to the Berkshires, and Saratoga is about an hour north. The Hudson River Art Trail is nearby: Olana, the home Frederick Church built above the Hudson River, (www.olana.org) and Cedar Grove, at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. (Thomascole.org and hudsonriverschool.org) The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a short drive away.(oldrhinebeck.org) Check out the Hudson RIver Ramble: hiking, biking, ride or paddle - hudsonrivervalleyramble.org. The classic Crandall Theater and PS 21 (outdoor theater) are in Chatham. There is strawberry picking in June, and several apple orchards offer pick your own and award-winning cider doughnuts. The Old Chatham Sheepherding Company, located in the lovely horse country of Old Chatham, sells world-renowned sheep cheese and yogurt. The Columbia Land Conservancy offers hikes around the county. Come relax and enjoy fishing, hiking, golf, Hudson river ferry tours (Hudson Cruises) , and more. Enjoy Columbia County.
We've lived in Valatie for 24 years, and enjoy all Columbia County has to offer. Gail and Jurgen have their own company and work in rehabilitation. Gail is an equestrian and has information on local hiking trails.
Gail Babirad purchased this cottage in 2014
We bought this home for its location on Kinderhook Lake and the lake views. We've always enjoyed living in Columbia county, and its access to the Hudson River Valley.
My husband and I were looking for a place to get away from the city for a few days and this was the perfect choice. The cottage was very quiet, and the scenery around it was great!
Gail (cottage owner) was very attentive and extremely accommodating. She responded pretty quickly to all my questions and made sure to let us know that if we had any questions about anything that we could contact her.
If you are traveling there in the winter and have to rent a car, I strongly suggest getting a car with all wheel drive. The weather can be a little unpredictable and the cottage is located off a very windy (and hilly) road.
The cottage is perfect for relaxing and has everything you need. The cottage is well appointed, clean and very cosy. Views of the lake are amazing from the living room and bedroom. The weather meant we never got to sit outside or use the kayaks, but just relaxing indoors looking at the lake was a great way to unwind.
Gail is great to work with, so accommodating and helpful. We were delayed arriving due to issue in our apartment and she was very understanding. Would love to come back again. Thanks!
Another lovely stay at Gail's cozy cottage on the lake! Everything you could need in an idyllic setting, with Gail's hospitality to make it perfect. We hope to be back soon!
We enjoyed our two days in Valatie(Val-lay-sha, pronunciation, thanks local friends!) and left so refreshed and relaxed. The house is well appointed, lacking nothing. Since it was only the two of us, we never accessed the loft. We were grateful for the AC in the bedroom but I suspect we wouldn't need it that much as there was NO HUMIDITY! Coming from Long Island, this was a wonderful change to enjoy. We will come back to this lovely place and for longer next time. Thank you Gail, for your responsiveness. Barbara and Ken.
This cottage is in a perfect spot with a wonderful lake view. We added the boats as an extra way to enjoy the water. This place has been beautifully renovated and has been thoughtfully stocked. Nearby towns are fun to explore. We hope to return for a longer stay in the future.
We had a great week at the lakefront cottage and wished we'd booked a longer stay. The cottage was comfortable and well-equipped. The kayaks were great, as were the HD TV and wifi.
Located in Columbia County, close to attractions in lively Hudson, NY - with many new restaurants and music venues (Club Helsinki). Local summer theater close by in Chatham, the Berkshires (Tanglewood) a short drive, Jacob's Pillow, Albany is also close. Many hiking parks, and the scenic Hudson River a short drive away.
