**The cabin is located on a steep and unpaved, mountainside road, so although front wheel drive vehicles do manage during the summer season, we strongly recommend AWD/4 x 4**
WINTER GUESTS: We provide snow removal/sanding on our road and driveway for your arrival and departure. AWD or 4x4 required during the snow season, generally a good idea during the winter months in the high country.

The High Country of North Carolina has so much to offer, and every season brings new adventures and new opportunities. We love the area and are certain that you will too, feel free to call me with any questions!
We spent years travelling around North Carolina's High Country as well as Tennessee in search of a mountain town that we could call our 'Escape Home', a place where we could recharge and spend quality time with our kids, as well as a place that fueled our love of nature and all things outdoor. Banner Elk met all of those requirements, and lucky for us we found a little cabin that was exactly what we were looking for. Adding a second Master suite and some other changes has brought our dream to life, one we can't wait to share with our guests.
Proximity to town ammenities while secluded and private. Loads of room to explore on and around property. Lots of entertainment options in the cabin, so rainy days won't ruin your vacation. The firepit, decks, pool table, games, wildlife and natural beauty of the property will recharge anyones batteries :)
This cabin is amazing. The details inside and out are perfect. It is stocked with everything you need, just bring your food and clothes. The listing is just as described. It is immaculately cleaned and maintained. The layout is great for a family or for two couples. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to get away.
We were concerned that we wouldn't have cell phone reception (Sprint), but had no problems at the house making or receiving calls on our cells.
My four year old son loved that there were toys to play with. The top of the driveway had a pile of gravel rocks, this may have been the best for him! Our son loved burying toys in the pile. He enjoyed the large bath tub and toys. Our Golden Retriever enjoyed every minute of being there, running up and down the mountains, lounging on the deck and exploring.
My husband played pool several nights. I was able to make a large breakfast each morning, we even hosted some friends from Blowing Rock for dinner. We enjoyed the outdoor fire place, TV and chairs.
We didn't want to leave and were able to extend another night!
Be sure to check out Mill Pond, Sugar Mountain, gem mining and all the fabulous antique stores.
Thank you for a great stay!
We stayed in Jackie's cabin for 2 nights. She was in touch with us from 2 days before and the day of arrival. Excellent first class quality furniture and construction material gave us the real feeling of the cabin. The gazebo outside with TV and plenty of firewood was a nice touch. Kitchen was fully loaded. Everything was perfect. We loved it!! Thank you Jackie
To qualify, I know the owner. Say pictures of one of her vacations and booked last week in October. Communications clear and effective. Location is great up on Sugar Mountain in NW NC. Banner Elk, Valle Crucis Boone and Grandfather Mountain nearby. Property feels nicely isolated. Listen to the recommendation to have 4wd or and. Driveway is well maintained but steep. Cabin very nicely appointed and well designed. Master bath, I could live in there! Balcony, fire pit, and outside fireplaces great. However, the best was the customer service of Jackie and her on-site manager., Teresa. I should not leave such a great review because you all will book it up, but it lives up to its name!
My family stayed for four nights in October 2016. Jackie is a marvelous host, contacted us to make sure we arrived safely and had everything we needed (we did). The cabin is immaculate and very well-appointed. The location is perfect, in striking distance of so much of the NC high country. Our two girls both said they did not want to leave!
P.S. don't try to make the last part of the steep drive up to the cabin unless you have a 4x4. We were warned! We ended up parking a notch down the drive and were fine with that.
Jackie goes above and beyond to ensure her guests feel welcome and entertained during their stay. She has everything you need onboard so you don't have to pack the kitchen sink! The outdoor fireplace experience was exceptional. We cooked hotdogs and S'mores over the fire.
This cabin has a lovely mountain view off the back deck and is 15 min at most from Banner Elk. From this location there are multiple other places to visit less than 30 minutes away. The cabin is so nicely furnished. Gorgeous bathrooms, Comfy beds. We loved the outdoor living room and stayed out there 2 nights watching TV and roasting marshmellows. Jackie, you have great taste and I so appreciated your personal touches and keeping in touch to make sure everything was in order. I really cannot think of anything I would change.
Banner Elk is a beautiful and well equiped small mountain town offering excellent dining and shopping options, lots of activities, and all the essentials for your grocery, hardware and pharmacy needs. Must sees include the beautiful curvy drive through Hickory Nut Gap Road over to Newland, a small working town that offers some good restaurant options. From Newland journey up to Grandfather Mountain for remarkable vistas over the Blue Ridge Mountains. On your way up the mountain, stop to visit the native animals in their natural habitat enclosures, enjoy some freshly made fudge and peruse the museum and gift shop. At the top of Grandfather is the must see mile high bridge! Don't forget to take a leisurely drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the majestic views. If your up for a hardy adventure take a hike on one of the many nature trails or just have a laid back picnic in the National Park. Back in Banner Elk, at the entrance to Hickory Nut Gap is our beautiful duck pond, be sure to bring some bread when you visit! Further along the duck pond road you will find a water fall and serene river walk with a bridge over the scenic river. Just up Hickory Nut Gap, and about 5 minutes from the cabin is Wildcat Lake which offers swimming, a beach, canoes, grilling pavillions and playground, a wonderful place to spend the day with the family. Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, 12 minutes from the cabin, offers skiing, tubing, skating and boarding and provides daycare services which are available even when you aren't skiing! Beech Mountain is just 15 minutes away and offers skiing, restaurants and the Buckeye Recreational Center, which is available for everyones enjoyment. Banner Elk is central to Boone, Blowing Rock, Linville, Valle Crucis, Seven Devils and Beech Moutain, making this cabin truly central to the endless activities and sites this area has to offer.
