We had a great few days at the Little Stone Cottage. Robbin met us at arrival and provided a great overview of the property and the house. She made it clear that we should reach out to her if we needed anything at all or had questions, which was great. The house is charming and as noted above the location is superb, with a sweeping view of Willsboro Bay out to Lake Champlain. You really could not have a better spot in the Bay, with lots of fresh air circulating through the house day and night.
It's a very private spot as well, which really felt like a special time away. I could easily envision staying there a week or more. The few neighbors were gracious with their waves as we passed by.
All essential needs were addressed, the furniture and beds were comfortable for our stay, the outdoor space inviting. I don't know the history of the house but you can feel it has one which makes it that much more special. Towels and linens provided felt like you were in a boutique hotel.
For those like us with small children, the stairs to the bedrooms are a bit steep so exercise care. We did not have a problem with it and our daughters loved climbing the stairs, but of course as parents you worry. Next time we might bring a child gate for our little one.
We very much felt like we were welcome visitors in someone else's home and the only request of us was that we enjoy ourselves and what the property has to offer.
What could be better?
First of all I adore the renovations. Classic charm, exposed stone and all the modern amenities.
The drive up to the house reveals acres of rolling fields and a view of the Adirondack mountains descending into lake Champlain. Two of us stayed most of June and enjoyed the lake with private sandy beach and rocky outcroppings just a few steps from the house. The afternoon clouds, sunsets and night skies are dazzling, due in part to the 50 acres of private land that surround. Waking up to the sound of the lapping waves and view of water was a daily treat. Beds were luxuriously comfortable. Firepit is a great addition, and we cooked on it several nights. A BBQ grill is also available (as is a well-appointed kitchen). This is a wonderfully calm and restful getaway just a few minutes away from the markets and restaurants of Willsboro and a short drive down to Essex and ferry to Burlington Vermont. I would highly recommend for families, a pair of couples, or a romantic retreat with your someone special.
p.s. Two osprey (Ozzy & Harriet) were building a home about 100 feet from the house and we watched them catch fish and carry twigs for their new nest throughout the month. We'll be curious to know their progress...
