We have a cozy lodge nestled in the mountains outside of Palmer. We have all the amenities of home, dishes and cookware provided as well as a full kitchen. Centrally located. All activities are nearby. Fishing, Four Wheeling, Hiking. Local Boutiques for shopping and glacier viewing. We have a glistening waterfall 20 feet away and a fire pit for camp fires while discussing your tales and memories of the day.
newly constructed, plenty of space, beautiful location next to stream and waterfall. wish we had more time there.
A great setting along the river with a creek and waterfall in the backyard. The lodge is very cozy and roomy. Only regret is that we didn't stay more nights at this location. The owner pointed out where to see moose at night and sure enough we saw some just a short distance away! I would recommend this property to any family or friends traveling through Alaska.
We enjoyed our short stay here. Very spacious lodging with enough room to spread out & relax.
I especially loved the pretty waterfall on their property that is down a short trail. And I loved the deck to sit on & relax.
Nice friendly folks & a very pleasant stay in a perfect location.
We were very pleased with our stay. Melissa and Steve were helpful and friendly. Saw moose and calf right across the street. Would stay here again and recommend it to anyone. Very clean.
Melissa was an excellent host, making sure we had everything we required, giving tips on what to do and was very friendly sharing stories of living in Alaska. The accommodation is very roomy and the few items (like a potato peeler) that was missing from the kitchen was provided instantly as soon as we asked). Melissa lives in the adjacent house and was always available to help or just chat. Melissa explained how we could see wild moose on the edge of the road only a few miles down her street. We saw one large male (from about 900 feet) and females (one with babies) from about 60 feet. We went to see wildlife and hike (including on a glacier), all within at most 2 hours drive.
We paid a little more for this accommodation than other alternatives we considered however we do not regret our choice as Pioneer Peak Lodge bigger and in a better location. Furthermore, it would not be possible to have a better host. You would need some form of transportation (we had a hire car for 4 days) except for swimming or fishing in the nearby river or the nearby hikes. Everything was clean, well maintained, and as we expected from the website.
All the positive reviews are spot on! Pioneer Peak Lodge is a comfortable spacious chalet in a beautiful setting with wonderful hosts.
This was our first family vacation in Alaska and our hostess Melissa could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Once we were settled in the very spacious and comfortable lodge Melissa helped us plan our itinerary for the week. She recommended the Denali Glacier Landing Flight out of Talkeetna and a Glacier Sightseeing Tour involving a trip to Whittier from Anchorage (via train) with a 5-hour cruise on a deluxe catamaran. The scenery was unbelievable and we were very fortunate to have great weather during both our excursions.
Our downtime between these trips was very relaxing where we either chilled out at the lodge or took short local sightseeing trips. Yes – we too saw the moose down the road and they were amazing.
I would highly recommend PPL for families, couples and sportsmen looking for a great base camp with helpful hosts for Alaska adventures.
Thanks to Melissa, Steve and Dante for your hospitality and friendship.
