Amid the vines & orchards in a tranquil village in the coastal region of the Charente Maritime, this charming barn conversion is furnished to a high standard & suitable for up to 4/5 people. Our property is on the edge of the hamlet of Fribaud. We have fantastic views over the French countryside. The sunsets in the evening have to be seen to be believed. There are often sunflowers
growing in the fields next to us and this makes for wonderful photo opportunities Fribaud is an ideal spot if you just want to chill out and enjoy the peace and tranquility. If you are feeling energetic, there are quiet leafy lanes for a stroll or a cycle ride. It is also ideally situated to tour the Charente Maritime with its many and varied coastal resorts, the oyster beds, the vineyards, the historic towns and villages (Saintes is ten minutes away - it is rich in roman architecture, the Charente river gently flows through the town and it has wonderful markets selling local produce every day except Mondays but on the first Monday of the month all the roads are closed to accommodate a huge foire).
This an ideal spot for a relaxing break but it is ideally situated for beaches (eg Royan 25 min). The beaches range from quiet coves (St Palais sur Mer) to vast wide and wild (Cote Sauvage), country walks, world famous seafood & wines & Cognac. Children are made very welcome. Zoo at La Palmyre, Aquarium at La Rochelle.
During the summer months there are lots of activities in all the communes in the area including firework competitions and displays and outdoor musical concerts. Many of these are free and very enjoyable.

Fribaud Pastorale Guest Book: A great week - great accommodation in a great location. Very quiet and peaceful. Sat and watched the sunset over Fribaud.
Josie and Roy were always on hand for help and advice and have done a fantastic job in their barn conversion.
We really enjoyed our stay and everything was provided for an excellent holiday. Very impressed and we will be recommending Fribaud Pastorale to our friends.
Had a lovely week, the barn is very comfortable and has all you need for a relaxing holiday. After watching the sunset over the fields, the stars begin to appear. Never seen so many. Then slept like a log. Wonderful.
Everywhere is easy to get to from here - Royan, St Palais, Ile d'Oleron, Ile de Re. All have great beaches.
Thank you for having us - its been fantastic. Lovely weather, lovely food, great accommodation. Coming back soon.
Roy and Josie are spot on - Roy even came to find us when we were lost!
Fribaud Paatorale Guest Book continued: What a wonderful slice of heaven! The weather has been perfect, the accommodation beautiful and our hosts superb! We will certainly be returning!
As I write this, the sun is streaming through the barn doors and its almost 8 pm. We shall be really sad to leave but are so happy that we have found such a stunning place to stay with such welcoming hosts. All in all, a great place to stay to visit the coast and inland.
A relaxing week in a beautiful region. The accommodation is so very well equipped, Josie and Roy have thought of everything. Made good use of the BBQ in the evenings. Lots of interesting places to visit and great places to eat. Great to come back to a peaceful, quiet location after a day sightseeing. Thanks Roy and Josie.
The ownesr renovated the property themselves. They have lived permanently in France for 16 years. They enjoy welcoming guests and sharing their love of the area. They make their guests very welcome but, at the same time, respect their privacy. They will always help when they can.
Josie Ogley purchased this barn in 1989
Roy and Josie spent many happy holidays in this region before deciding to buy. They fell in love with the house and its surroundings and have enjoyed living and renovating it.
They love the tranquility and the beautiful countryside around them and watching the seasons change.
We try to make our guests very welcome. We are not intrusive but are always on hand to help. (Bicycle repair kits, trips to the doctor). We have a large garden and land suitable for children to run, play football, etc in safety.
You can be sure of a warm welcome.
A lovely property providing all the amenities that any holidaymaker could possibly want with the added attraction of a glorious garden setting. Perfect for a peaceful holiday. Josie, the lovely lady who owns the property was very friendly and welcoming and was always on hand with suggestions of places to go, if needed. Beware, that if you have any mobility problems the stairs up to the kitchen may be a problem, but Josie points this out on the website.
4th time we have come to this gite. It is very cosy and located in a beautiful area..close to beaches and many great towns such as Saintes, bordeaux, cognac, rochefort, La Rochelle, Limoges etc. Roy and Josie are perfect hosts, always on hand for advice and for a chat but also very discreet. Would suit a range of users.. Good for a romance break but also safe and ideal for families. We will be back no doubt at some point in the future.
Elaine and Phil, Inverkip
The property is a converted barn which the owners have fitted out to a really high standard. The setting is picturesque, the outside space ample in size and the surroundings quiet and peaceful.
Roy and Josie are welcoming hosts and have given a lot of thought to the facilities and equipment their guests will benefit from. We were there a little too late in the season to enjoy the property to its maximum - eg dwindling light and temperatures prevented dining outdoors in the evening (not to mention the poor weather!) - but I can imagine it being ideal for couples and small families in the height of summer.
All in all, great value for money and warmly recommended.
A wonderful holiday cottage in a fantastic setting.
Roy and Josie were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble.
We spent 2 great weeks in this lovely accomodation.
The barn has been very tastefully decorated with everything and more that you would need. All the appliances were new including washing machine, cooker, microwave and English TV to keep you up to date with home if needed.
The surrounding area is very picturesque, with all the sunflowers in bloom whist we were there, whilst a little further away Saintes, Royan and Cognac are a must to visit. St Palais sur mer was our favourite beach whilst further down the road the zoo is also well worth a visit.
All in all we had a wonderful family holiday, the children loved playing in the garden on an evening whilst we prepared the BBQ drinking a glass or two of the local wine and sitting watching the beautiful sunset.
We would highly recommend this property and will definately be returning to continue exploring the area.
This was our second visit to this lovely barn conversion. Set in a peaceful countryside location but just a short drive away from the old town of Saintes, the seaside resort of Royan and some wonderful beaches.
The accomodation was just as described: clean, comfortable and spacious with outstanding views over the adjoining countryside.Fully equipped, it provides everything for a family holiday and is ideally located.
Roy and Josie were the perfect hosts: always willing to help and offer advice on places to visit and eat.
There are so many places to visit and we enjoyed our day at La Palmyre Zoo. Our favourite place is Saint Palais Sur Mer - a charming little resort with a safe beach and bathing and some good restaurants.
We will definately be visiting again and would not hesitate to recommend this accomodation.
Fribaud Pastorale is set in beautiful open countryside and has the benefit of calm and tranquility with wonderful views over open countryside and amazing sunsets (in the evening dining in the garden, sipping the local Pineau des Charentes watching the sun set over the fields of sunflowers is breathtaking) but it is ideally situated to visit the wealth of activities in the Charente Maritime.
Our property is ideal for couples who yearn for a quiet, romantic stay but it is also wonderful for young families. We have a large garden ideal for hide and seek. We also have a piece of land which is flat and mowed and is perfect for ball games.
We have an aquarium, world famous zoo, boating lakes, outdoor and indoor swimming pools just a short drive away.
In Corme Royal there are all the services you may require. Boulangerie, boucherie, tabac, restaurant, epicerie, doctor, dentist, pharmacy, etc.
Fribaud is a traditional French hamlet famous for its apple, peach, nectarine and cherry orchards which give spectacular blossom in the spring and a feast of fruit in late summer and autumn. It lies off the tourist routes but is only 20 minutes from the nearest beaches. The coast has some of the finest in France with family beaches and wilder, natural stretches among the forests to the west of the region. The many islands just off the coast are perfect for exploring on foot or by bicycle. The area is steeped in history with a wealth of Chateaux, Roman & medieval remains. Saintes is 15 minutes away, Royan 25 minutes & La Rochelle 60 minutes. These & the many smaller towns have wonderful food markets which offer fresh seafood, the famous Marennes oysters from the local beds which claim to supply 75% of the oysters eaten in France and many other local delicacies. Within a short drive we have many fine restaurants & we must not forget the fine wines produced on our doorstep.
Other Activities: historical sites, river trips and boat hire, distilleries, zoo, aquarium, open farms, stone carving, birdwatching,
