The beautiful and large Carib Edge beachfront penthouse-studio offers a nice sea-view and is situated on the exclusive West Coast of Barbados. The penthouse is part of the small condominium complex White Sands, which is separated from the beach by a road with local traffic only. The penthouse is at the northern end of the building with many windows to open; the trade winds allow a nice ventilation in the rooms. The well fitted penthouse studio for 2-3 persons is the only one in the White Sands building on one level. The beach directly in front of the condo makes it ideal also for a family with a small child. A high chair & a crib are available. Beach chairs and beach towels as well as snorkeling equipment are provided. Housekeeping (maid service) is twice a week. Linen and towels are changed weekly. Welcome pack with basic food possible, if ordered in advance. Unlimited local telephone calls plus free calls to landlines in UK, Canada, US. Very fast internet (glass fibre); stay in contact with friends and family by internet for your overseas calls. The flat is not suited for wheelchairs, because it is a penthouse on the second floor (no lift).

The spacious (1168 sq. ft.) and well fit out accommodation is a romantic getaway for couples and an ideal place to unwind in Caribbean atmosphere. The owners of the Carib Edge apt. own also the Coral Sands apt. just underneath.

No rental car needed, everything can be reached by foot in a few minutes.


BEDROOM: one, large bedroom with a queen size bed, a foldable twin bed (stowed away), air condition, ceiling fans, two windows.

BATHROOM: Modern bathroom with walk in shower, wash basin, toilet, next to the sleeping room.

TERRACE: Large terrace with sea-view.

More details:

(i) Living room with very comfortable seating for up to 6 persons, WiFi, Smart Cable TV, Android box for TV and movies, Bose radio and music dock (apple, cable connect), book shelve, computer working place (monitor, printer are present), two AC and two ceiling fans.

(ii) The unhurried, relaxing atmosphere continues to the large, partly covered terrace, equipped with a dining table and chairs for 4 persons, a sun-lounger, and two sun umbrellas. The terrace has also an electric grill and is ideal for dining outside ("al fresco"). From the terrace you have a direct view of the azure Caribbean sea. Towards the west is the first class restaurant Hugos, which blocks part of the view, but you have still a wide panorama of the sea looking southwest and northwest.

(iii) Modern, very well equipped kitchen, where 4 persons can dine;

(iv) A corridor leads to the pleasant, large bedroom with a queen size bed, AC and ceiling fans, large windows, large wardrobes and sideboard.

(v) Modern bathroom with walk in shower, wash basin, toilet, small cabinet, next door to the sleeping room.

An additional toilet is one flight of stairs down.

About Thilo

The owners Maria and Thilo are both geologists, travelling a lot. They were looking for a safe harbor in an area not overcrowded by tourists, and found it here in Speightstown. We stay several times per year in the apartment and rent it out when it is not occupied by ourselves.

Why Thilo chose Speightstown

We stayed many years in Barbados and preferred always the west coast as compared to the much more crowded south, where the ocean waves are normally high. After several visits to the island we bought first the Coral Sands apartment in the small White Sands condominium complex which is just underneath the 2017 purchased Carib Edge penthouse, advertised here. The Speightstown area has some tourism but is not at all overcrowded by tourists, it is more characterized by local "Bajan" live. Expensive touristic properties like Port St. Charles, Port Ferdinand or Nikki`s beach club are, however, in walking distance.

What makes this apartment unique

An ideal place to unwind in real Caribbean atmosphere, a romantic getaway for couples. The apartment is quite large (1168 sq. ft.) and nicely equipped with modern furniture allowing relaxed sitting. The kitchen is well stocked with electric equipment and everything else you might need. The ceilings are very high and have fans. This and the many windows to open provide a pleasant atmosphere, so that the AC also present is only rarely necessary.

This s a great location and Thilo has thought of everything. The apartment is lovely, spacious and kitted out with all you could want to a very high standard. If we come beck to Speightstown we would certainly look to stay here again. Would highly recommend.

Exceeded expectations!

My husband and I stayed 5 nights in the Carib Edge and we only wish we had longer! It is a beautiful space, in a fantastic location, convenient for shops/restaurants (it's a small town so everything is walkable) and right across from the beach which we often had to ourselves! The apartment is looked after with with care and well equipped with everything we needed - kitchen supplies, beach gear, even snorkels and masks which we used every day - there's an amazing coral reef all the way up the coast so if you like to snorkel this is the spot for it. Thilo was an incredible host right from the start - providing us with detailed information about the apartment and the area, and answering all of our questions quickly. We would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you Thilo.

Overall a nice place

A lovely apartment in a good location. There is one snag which I'll explain next, and then I will tell you more about the apartment and environs.

Recently (early 2018) a restaurant opened just across the road. There is some noise from this. Firstly, there are two large kitchen extractor fans on the roof directly opposite. These make a drone from when they are switched on about 9am. It's about as loud as the sound of the surf. So, not dreadful, but a bit annoying. (We understand that they intend to install acoustic baffles, so it may be better in future.) The second source of noise is delivery and service lorries. There are only two or three of these a day, but they tend to park just below and leave their engines running. Note that when we were there, there was no music or other loud noise from the restaurant, and we had no trouble at all sleeping at night. (Though we were woken a couple of times by early morning garbage pickup.)

The apartment itself is lovely and light and airy. There's air-conditioning throughout, but we just opened windows front and back and enjoyed the though-breeze. The kitchen is well equipped the living area comfortable, and there are lots of useful extra things (beach chairs, etc etc). The mosquito net in the bedroom is excellent.

We have stayed in the same apartment block before, and know the area pretty well. There is a nice beach just across the road (there is some traffic on this, but nobody would describe it as "busy".) This is very quiet --- we seldom have had anyone else swimming at the same time as us. There are shoals of fish and even the occasional turtle to see just there. (If you are going to snorkel here you should use a dive float to make sure the jet-skis see you.)

Speightstown itself has restaurants and shops if that's what you are looking for. In particular if you really want to self-cater like us, you can find almost everything you'll want at Eddies and Jordans, which are both a few minutes away. The town is also near to other nice beaches on the west coast. (When we were there in February 2018 the sargassum on the east coast was still a problem, so you will want to visit the east coast, but probably not swim.)

Regarding the restaurant opposite: the owners already ordered sound panels to reduce the present noise very distinctly (a very significant reduction of minus 30 dB). Of course there are deliveries, but the penthouse is distinctly higher than the road. The owners of it promised to press the drivers of delivery cars to switch off the motor. The through traffic of trucks etc. is now strongly reduced, and the area is upgraded by the first class restaurant. Thank you Toni also for recommending dive floats - I mention this also in the info file for our guests.

Lovely apartment with a great location

My fiance and I had a lovely week in this apartment. It is right across the road from two little beaches and you can see the sea and the sunset from the balcony. The apartment is on the top floor and nice and quiet. It has aircon throughout, although we just used the fans most of the time. It has all the facilities that you would need to have a relaxing get away: Maria and Thilo are very thoughtful and organised, and provided a very comprehensive list of useful information and contact numbers.

In terms of location, the apartment is a five minute walk from a host of little restaurants and bars by the waterfront in Speightstown. You could spent the whole week hanging around Speightstown, but a (very cheap) bus service will take you further afield (north and south) where there are more beaches and great places to eat and hang out: we went to Lonestar, Mullins and Fishpot, all great. Mullins and Fishpot are each around 30mins walk, or 10 mins bus. Lonestar is 20 mins by bus.

We had a lovely time and would definitely stay there again. Thank you Maria and Thilo!

Beautiful Carib Edge, what an outstanding way to spend 6 weeks

We stayed in Coral Sands condo in Speightstown 4 years ago & loved it, so we were very excited to stay in the luxurious Carib Edge penthouse in the same building. It is more beautiful than the photos, very tastefully appointed & even has a diverse library, including multi-language novels & a Barbados cook book. The partially covered deck is fantastic for morning coffee, outdoor dining, viewing sunsets, & listening to the ocean. The electric BBQ is great. The kitchen is well equipped (sharp knives, good pots, pans & dishes), the ceiling fans are quiet & efficient, & we rarely needed air conditioning. With 2 windows in the bedroom, there are nice cooling breezes most of the time, & the bed is comfortable. There's a convenient desk for computer use. The WIFI works really well.

Thilo is the best “landlord” we’ve ever had. He has written down suggestions for restaurants, taxis, doctors, everything you can think of. If you have questions he replies right away, & he did everything he could to mitigate the construction noise across the street as it wound down. Sonjia, the condo caretaker is delightful, providing housekeeping twice a week during our 6 week stay.

We were usually the only people on the beach across the street & it is a short walk to other snorkeling beaches, the bus depot, grocery stores, pubs, live music, inexpensive restaurants. We made daily use of the condo’s beach umbrella, beach towels & chairs. Speightstown people are friendly & we always felt safe. Another unforgettable holiday there, in a fantastic condo.

Beautiful location and accommodation

Our stay at Carib Edge was an incredible experience. There was everything you could want in this one bedroom apartment: extra linen, beach towels, pillows, and an incredibly well equipped kitchen. The large walk in shower was a bonus.

The unit is well and comfortably furnished. You only need to bring your bathing suit.

The patio, accessed by two French doors, is a lovely place to catch a few rays, watch the sunset, or enjoy a meal. There were two umbrellas for those who need shade, and no shortage of patio furniture and loungers. You have a lovely view of the ocean, even though it is partially blocked by a new restaurant.

For those who love the beach, it is a mere 20 seconds across a rarely travelled road.

Everything you might need is within walking distance on safe sidewalks and roads. There are two grocery stores, and a bakery just around the corner. There is lots of beer and wine available at the grocery stores.

If you are into the bar scene there are a couple of small bars in town on the water, as well as a few nice restaurants.

Sonjia, the apartment caretaker, is pleasant and helpful, and usually in the building somewhere, as well as available by phone. When the kettle broke she arr5ived the next morning with a new one.

If you have a car there is a locked garage, so security is not an issue.

The apartment is so close to the ocean, and in such a quiet location, one not only can enjoy the sea breeze, but also hear the gentle waves.

All in all, this is one of the best apartments we have stayed in.

The Carib Edge beachfront penthouse is situated on the exclusive West Coast of Barbados, overlooking a white, sandy beach, where you can swim, snorkel or dive. The condo is situated in just a few minutes walk to the historical centre of Speightstown ('Little Bristol'), a small town protected for its cultural and historical value. You find banks, shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, bars and more. During the week you observe the pulsating life of a small busy Caribbean town, much characterized by colorfully dressed, friendly ladies selling local fresh fruit and vegetables. Concerts and festivals are often organized, especially at Speightstown Esplanade, which is just 3 minutes walk away.

The location is ideal for water sports. We provide for our guests a large beach umbrella, foldable beach loungers, beach chairs, beach towels and snorkeling equipment. The Reefers and Wreckers Dive Shop in Speightstown is just five minutes walk away, highly praised for their diving tours. Paddle-boards and kayaks can be hired at the "1.11 East" Bar in the centre of Speightstown, which is also recommended to stay on sunbeds at the beach or to enjoy a sun-downer. Next to it is Yuma`s beach front restaurant.

In just 5 minutes walking distance to the north along the coast you reach the km-long Heywoods beach (with many trees providing shadow), stretching to the famous beach in front of Port St. Charles, near the yacht harbour. Please remember: All beaches are open to the public and access is a right for everybody. Properties which front onto a beach own the land to the high-water mark only. So you can stroll and relax along the beaches even in front of very expensive hotels.

The beautiful rugged East Coast, famous among surfers, with its breathtaking views, is only a few kilometers away. White Sands is close to the golf courses of Royal Westmoreland (10 minutes by car), Sandy Lane (20 minutes) and others. Pulsating touristic Holetown is only 15 min away. This gives you the best of two worlds: a quiet haven on the edge of where it is all happening.
