Forget "ordinary" this place is exceptional!

  • 5 of 5

We had seen details of the property on the website but we were astounded when we saw just how perfect this historic manor house really was. We were the first to arrive so Kerry & Tomas were able to show us round the entire property and we were absolutely astounded! There is just about everything one could wish for in a holiday property and location. The rooms are individually decorated and furnished to an almost unimaginably high standard.

The property is situated in one of France's most beautiful regions with a surfeit of historical interest at every turn. Kerry & Tomas can not only recommend local trips but can arrange cycle tours, guided walking tours of fascinating old townships, kayak river adventures, in fact nothing is too much trouble for them as they seem absolutely determined that you will enjoy every single minute of your stay.

We have already booked our next stay at Les Charmes de Calucet.

Extraordinary week in Sarlat

  • 5 of 5

The house was truly wonderful - exceptionally maintained and presented to our group of eleven. All of the rooms reflected the history and ambiance of the house, with great bathrooms and more than adequate closet space. Kerry and Tomas were inviting, supportive and helpful, without ever being intrusive. We had help in planning our days - where to go and what to see; meals and connections with both local food and local guides. I can't say that I have ever enjoyed a rental experience as much as Les Charmes. This is a place that, even as you are leaving, is inviting you to return.

Several big rooms with their own bathroom. All very personal, clean and well-maintained. Luxury, is the word!

The owners took very good care of us, the guests.

The neighbourhood is very nice, hills and valleys, and everywhere small french villages. Would love to recommend this place to everybody

Our (glamorous) home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Our trip was breathtaking from the moment we drove up the lane to the manor house and until the moment we drove off leaving behind us the beautiful grounds and the most hospitable and attentive hosts we have ever come across!

The charm of every room and every nook and cranny have made me want to go back to Carlucet to renew my vows on the property.

I can't say enough! We will be back very soon!

Tranquil luxury in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We booked 5 nights in the manor house having heard about Kerry & Tomas's new venture through mutual friends.

Our first impression exceeded all expectations and it didn't stop there. The approach is along a tree-lined avenue passing through huge gardens, which is only half the land that the property sits on. A tour of the manor house revealed 6 spacious bedrooms, all beautifully decorated. The lounge has UK TV although it was the impressive fireplace that had our attention! The breakfast room is stunning in the way it opens up on to the gardens. The continental breakfasts were spot on and included freshly baked croissants and eggs to order.

Kerry & Tomas were wonderful hosts, making us feel very welcome and offering plenty of advice on local places to visit plus activities. We had intended to do so much with the kids but it was hard to leave the pool! The kayaking was a fun afternoon for all the family and we took advantage of the mountain bike trails all around. It would also be a great place for road-biking with quiet roads and beautiful scenery.

A real bonus is having the Black Duck gastro-pub a matter of metres away with great food, Guinness and IPA on tap.

Overall, we can't recommend the Charmes of Carlucet enough. We will be back, more than once hopefully, as there's so much more to discover. 5 stars, without a doubt.

It is also 13 km from the world famous Lauscaux caves at Montignac. The site of one of the world best preserved examples of prehistoric cave painting. The valley is filled with fairy tale Chateaux over looking this spectacular region of Perigord Noir. This region is also famous for its gastronomy, boasting some world class restaurants and also the home of the world largest and best quality truffle production with markets for direct purchase during Truffle season Nov until beginning of March.

Also the region is known for the largest and best quality Foie Gras production.

Not to mention the wonderful wine produced in the Bergerac region.

The Manor has wonderful views over the ancient hamlet of old Carlucet and its stunning 11th Century church.

As the Manor faces south west, it enjoys breathtaking sunsets while you can enjoy a cool gin and Tonic while relaxing by the private pool.

It is set within the grounds of the Domaine les Charmes de Carlucet.
