With everything you need for a comfortable escape The Hide is a first floor apartment with self contained entrance, parking space and private patio garden. Set on the edge of a small development the apartment is filled with light and enjoys beautiful views over the neighbouring fields and across to Dartmoor with the advantage of being a couple of minutes walk from the many local shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants that Moretonhampstead has to offer.
The ancient market town of Moretonhampstead is nestled just within the Dartmoor National Park, with hills on three sides and the beautiful Wray Valley on the fourth it’s perfectly placed for visiting the moors, the countryside and the seaside. Exeter, the capital city of Devon with its historic cathedral and quayside is less that 15 miles away, as are Newton Abbot, Okehampton and Princetown. Geographically the centre of Devon Moreton is within an hour’s drive of both the stunning north and south coastlines.
For walking or cycling enthusiasts the spectacular scenery in this region is truly breathtaking. There are many cycle routes around the town including the Two Moors Cycle trail and the first phase of the Wray Valley Trail, following the old railway line from Newton Abbot to Moretonhampstead. Along with the heated outdoor 25m swimming pool (open between May-Sept) and tennis courts, there are excellent golf courses at the nearby Bovey Castle Hotel or Bovey Tracey Golf Centre.
The Town Trails are a great way to explore the town and find out more about its history, walking trails which start at the central crossroads in town just adjacent to the Information Centre are colour coded. Well known for its position as a gateway to the moor Moretonhampstead is also famous for its 15th century church and arcaded almshouses dating from around 1637. On the site of the former Victorian primary school the Green Hill Arts Gallery is developing a reputation as one of the foremost contemporary galleries in Devon and many of the independent artist studios and workshops around the town are open to visitors.
