Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cabin in Lake Luzerne - Charming Adirondack Log Home

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Lakefront Log Cabin with Character and tastefully decorated

If you are looking for a true 'Adirondack Camp' experience, look no further!

First, about the Cabin. Sitting on the shore of Forest Lake (a private association lake with no motor boats allowed), the cabin was built in the 1940's as a rental for one of the many Dude Ranches that were active around the Lake George/Lake Luzerne area. A Charming cabin that has been completely restored to provide all the modern amenities that one would expect today. There are three bedrooms upstairs with a full bath, downstairs you will find a spacious living room with original stone fireplace (gas logs installed) a dining room that seats 6, a large kitchen boasting a gas range/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and a full selection of cookware, dinnerware and utensils. There is a full bath (with shower) downstairs that also hosts a full size washer/dryer for your convenience.

Also, lakeside, is a quite place you can curl up with a good book. Walk out the backdoor onto a large covered porch overlooking the lake. Sit quietly and you will probably see the bald eagles that live on the lake, lots of ducks and geese, and occasionally the family of otters that make their home across the lake. Attached to the covered porch is an open deck to grab a few rays or fire up the grill. Step off the porch and it is steps to the lake. There is a dock for sunning and a nice sloped area for swimming. We have a canoe and a row boat at the property for your use! You can spend your entire visit relaxing at the cabin but if you want to explore the area, there is plenty to do. There are several river rafting outfitters just down the road as well as The Painted Pony Rodeo. Horseback outfitters, snowmobile outfitters and hiking trails are all nearby. The Longhorn Pub is just down the road for a hamburger or a drink, a locals place that is good and fun or try the Upriver Cafe in Lake Luzerne with a fantastic view of the Hudson. If you wish to explore a bit further and need some additional shopping or dining, just a few miles brings you to the Lake George area where putt-putt, amusement parks, restaurants, outlet malls and shops will keep you busy. For real nostalgia, take in a double feature at the Drive in Movie! Lake George offers more boating and fishing opportunities. During the winter try the Tubby Tubes (summers are fun too!) near the cabin or drive to Gore Mountain for a day of skiing.

We are minutes to the Northway (I87) and it will quickly take you south to Saratoga Springs and Albany, north to the upper Adirondack region with Lake Placid and the Lakes (even Montreal is just a couple of hours away), and East to Vermont.

Rates: Please see current rates under the rates tab. Summer is a 7 day rental with turnover on Sunday. We have a 3 night minimum the rest of the year. Also, we limit our cabin to 6 guests. We cannot accept pets due to an allergy issue.

Posted rates do not include the $95.00 cleaning fee nor does it include the fees charged to you by VRBO. Their is a $500.00 security deposit that will be charged at booking that will be refunded to you promptly upon inspection after you leave. To get a clear picture of costs, click on "get an instant quote" under the Request to Book button.

Also, we have a strict refund policy, please review it.

Upon your request to book, we like to visit by telephone with a prospective guest prior to booking so that we can all get to know each other a bit better and feel comfortable with our relationship.

We love our cabin and think you will too. We are very proactive owners and are always available to answer any questions or satisfy your needs. Just call or email if you have any questions.

Thanks for your interest in our cabin!

About Fred Asmussen

We are Pam and Fred Asmussen, we live in Texas and purchased the home last year. Two of our children live in the Northeast and we purchased the house to be able to spend more time with them. We have fallen in love with upstate New York and the Adirondack region is our little slice of heaven. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Fred Asmussen purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Fred Asmussen chose New York

When you close your eyes and try to imagine your idea of a lakefront camp in the Adirondack's this property is most likely what you will see. Our cabin was originally built in the 1940's as part of the Northwoods Dude Ranch, an 800 acre site with 2 lakes. A lot a history in the area.A true hand cut log home, nestled among the pines overlooking a beautiful lake. Original pine floors, exposed logs, and a handlaid stone fireplace gives the house its charm. With a well done addition to the house and lots of work, the house was remodeled to provide a modern kitchen and nice bathrooms. We have decorated the house to keep the charm of a log home but included many of our personal pieces, furniture and rugs to give the house a bit of elegance as well.

What makes this cabin unique

What makes this house special?

Standing on the porch watching the wildlife?

Testing the water with your toes in early summer to see if you are brave enough for a plunge?

Pushing the canoe into the lake to enjoy a different view of the beauty of the area, the quite and the solitude?

Family and friends gathering in the kitchen, all talking, laughing and cooking?

Backing up to the fireplace on a frosty morning with a cup of coffee?

Curling up in a chair on the deck with a good book?

You decide...

Perfect getaway.

This cabin on the lake is a gem. A perfect blend of old/original and modern conveniences. The cabin has the charm of a rustic log cabin, yet every comfort imaginable is there. Rooms are all very comfortably furnished. All the pictures on the website are accurate, but really can't express how delightful this place is. We will be returning for sure.

WOW !!!! This cabin was so wonderful and we enjoyed our stay. From start to finish the homeowner was so attentive and answered all our questions to make our stay flawless. The property was wonderful to say the least. All one needs to know is that it is more than you could imagine. The pictures posted are beautiful but to see the cabin in person leaves you breathless. Truly a gem inside and out. A step back into history but with a modern touch for all the comforts you need. Very centralized to many activities, restaurants and markets. The lake is wonderful and the use of the row boat and canoe in the morning and sunset made for wonderful time to see turtles, ducks and frogs. To sit around in the evening around the fire pit was exactly what we needed. Very quite for reading a book or taking a nap on the outside porch. You also may enjoy the outside dining area as we did with our friends. We will be returning to this cabin again next year and look forward to making additional memories in this wonderful place.

Adirondack Cabin Getaway

  • 5 of 5

It was a great week at Fred's log cabin! The house had all the needed amenities and more with the perfect lakeside setting. The pictures understate the cabin's decor and comfort. The porch was a great spot to relax, read, play cards and simply hang out. Another great feature of the cabin is location - although in a quiet, secluded area off the beaten path - within 10 minutes you are in the middle of Lake George Village with all that it offers. Fred was great to work with - very responsive and prompt. We would definitely recommend staying at this cabin.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jocelyn! So glad you had a good time. True, the pictures do not do it justice but as with all good things 'you just have to see it for yourself' to appreciate. Come see us again soon!

Perfect place for an Adirondack family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were so happy we chose this log cabin home for a 5 night family vacation (with two daughters in college and one son in high school). After a great deal of online searching for rental properties throughout all of the Adirondacks, once we saw the pictures of this property, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. You can rest assured that the actual house (especially the back porch) is even more impressive in person!

The inside of the house was more spacious than we were expecting from the pictures, with a large well-equipped kitchen, very comfortable bedrooms, and multiple areas to lounge. It certainly holds that certain log-cabin charm on the inside but, without question, the giant open back porch was everyone's favorite place to eat, play games, read, rest, and enjoy each other's company --- no matter what time of day or night. We especially appreciated the strings of lights that were hung over the stone walkway to the dock to illuminate the beautiful back area in the evening.

We all enjoyed swimming and canoeing on the water, especially when we could watch the turtles sun-bathing on the logs at the far end of the lake. And I think we all took at least one nap in the hammock!

The location was perfect --- a relatively short drive to beautiful Lake George, striking distance to some challenging-but-worthwhile mountain hikes (Buck Mountain & Prospect Mountain), and only a 90 minute drive to Lake Placid.

Fred was a pleasure to work with --- he always returned e-mails promptly and our deposit was returned very quickly. He made us feel at home before we even arrived.

I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to create some Adirondack memories for their family!

Excellent location and house for a relaxing trip!

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting Lake Luzerne to see our son perform at the Luzerne Music Center and needed a place close to the camp. This location was perfect - only 5 minutes to the center and it was a great place for him to unwind with family after the concert. The house was immaculate when we arrived and Fred (and his team) even left us a welcome treat in the fridge! The porch was wonderful and the relaxing breeze off the lake made it the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch, cocktails and dinner. I hope to be back to this lovely and serene spot in the Adirondack's - thank you for a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks Julie, glad you had a good trip! Come again some time. There is so much to do in the area but there's nothing like hanging out on the porch, seems to be everyone's favorite spot.
