About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Lakefront Log Cabin with Character and tastefully decorated

If you are looking for a true 'Adirondack Camp' experience, look no further!

First, about the Cabin. Sitting on the shore of Forest Lake (a private association lake with no motor boats allowed), the cabin was built in the 1940's as a rental for one of the many Dude Ranches that were active around the Lake George/Lake Luzerne area. A Charming cabin that has been completely restored to provide all the modern amenities that one would expect today. There are three bedrooms upstairs with a full bath, downstairs you will find a spacious living room with original stone fireplace (gas logs installed) a dining room that seats 6, a large kitchen boasting a gas range/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave and a full selection of cookware, dinnerware and utensils. There is a full bath (with shower) downstairs that also hosts a full size washer/dryer for your convenience.

Also, lakeside, is a quite place you can curl up with a good book. Walk out the backdoor onto a large covered porch overlooking the lake. Sit quietly and you will probably see the bald eagles that live on the lake, lots of ducks and geese, and occasionally the family of otters that make their home across the lake. Attached to the covered porch is an open deck to grab a few rays or fire up the grill. Step off the porch and it is steps to the lake. There is a dock for sunning and a nice sloped area for swimming. We have a canoe and a row boat at the property for your use! You can spend your entire visit relaxing at the cabin but if you want to explore the area, there is plenty to do. There are several river rafting outfitters just down the road as well as The Painted Pony Rodeo. Horseback outfitters, snowmobile outfitters and hiking trails are all nearby. The Longhorn Pub is just down the road for a hamburger or a drink, a locals place that is good and fun or try the Upriver Cafe in Lake Luzerne with a fantastic view of the Hudson. If you wish to explore a bit further and need some additional shopping or dining, just a few miles brings you to the Lake George area where putt-putt, amusement parks, restaurants, outlet malls and shops will keep you busy. For real nostalgia, take in a double feature at the Drive in Movie! Lake George offers more boating and fishing opportunities. During the winter try the Tubby Tubes (summers are fun too!) near the cabin or drive to Gore Mountain for a day of skiing.

We are minutes to the Northway (I87) and it will quickly take you south to Saratoga Springs and Albany, north to the upper Adirondack region with Lake Placid and the Lakes (even Montreal is just a couple of hours away), and East to Vermont.

Rates: Please see current rates under the rates tab. Summer is a 7 day rental with turnover on Saturday. We have a 3 night minimum the rest of the year. Also, we limit our cabin to 6 guests. We cannot accept pets due to an allergy issue.

Posted rates do not include the $95.00 cleaning fee nor does it include the fees charged to you by VRBO. Their is a $500.00 security deposit that will be charged at booking that will be refunded to you promptly upon inspection after you leave. To get a clear picture of costs, click on "get an instant quote" under the Request to Book button.

Also, we have a strict refund policy, please review it.

Upon your request to book, we like to visit by telephone with a prospective guest prior to booking so that we can all get to know each other a bit better and feel comfortable with our relationship.

We love our cabin and think you will too. We are very proactive owners and are always available to answer any questions or satisfy your needs. Just call or email if you have any questions.

Thanks for your interest in our cabin!

About Fred Asmussen

We are Pam and Fred Asmussen, we live in Texas and purchased the home last year. Two of our children live in the Northeast and we purchased the house to be able to spend more time with them. We have fallen in love with upstate New York and the Adirondack region is our little slice of heaven. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Fred Asmussen purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Fred Asmussen chose Lake George Area

When you close your eyes and try to imagine your idea of a lakefront camp in the Adirondack's this property is most likely what you will see. Our cabin was originally built in the 1940's as part of the Northwoods Dude Ranch, an 800 acre site with 2 lakes. A lot a history in the area.A true hand cut log home, nestled among the pines overlooking a beautiful lake. Original pine floors, exposed logs, and a handlaid stone fireplace gives the house its charm. With a well done addition to the house and lots of work, the house was remodeled to provide a modern kitchen and nice bathrooms. We have decorated the house to keep the charm of a log home but included many of our personal pieces, furniture and rugs to give the house a bit of elegance as well.

What makes this cabin unique

What makes this house special?

Standing on the porch watching the wildlife?

Testing the water with your toes in early summer to see if you are brave enough for a plunge?

Pushing the canoe into the lake to enjoy a different view of the beauty of the area, the quite and the solitude?

Family and friends gathering in the kitchen, all talking, laughing and cooking?

Backing up to the fireplace on a frosty morning with a cup of coffee?

Curling up in a chair on the deck with a good book?

You decide...

Left my heart there!

  • 5 of 5

I have had a life long dream to stay in a snow covered log cabin in the woods on a lake. Two weeks ago, my dream came true. Everything about the cabin was exactly how I would have pictured it to be. The tranquility, scenery and atmosphere made our long weekend perfect. When we arrived, there was a light snow fall which just added to the beauty of the cabin and the lake. Every morning we woke up to snow falling. We even went out on the deck with our coffee to enjoy the scenery. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet get away from it all place to go...this is it. I absolutely fell in love with this cabin. I left my heart there!! I have already started to plan the next stay there.

Perfect cabin in the woods. when we walked in we felt at home....not in someone else's home.

We enjoyed a 3 day birthday celebration for my mom. The cabin is spacious yet cozy. The decor was perfect. Adirondack with some texas mixed in...and a little bit of old and a little bit of new... There were so many awesome things to see. The beds were so comfortable and the linens were quality. We are already planning another getaway for October. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

The Perfect Place to Ring in the New Year!

  • 5 of 5

There were six of us (3 couples) that made the trip up from NYC to visit this incredible home for the New Years Holiday.

We didn't realize how lucky we were to find this cabin until we arrived. The home is perfectly apportioned with modern amenities and comforts, all while maintaining its rustic authenticity. It's spotless, tidy and accessible.

There was plenty of snow falling and already on the ground during our trip, so for the most part, we spent three days in and around the house and never caught 'cabin fever'. The kitchen was the focal point for us. We stocked up on groceries (Walmart Supercenter) on the drive up and spent our time taking turns making meals for each other in one of the best kitchens I've ever cooked in. We brought lots of card games along with us and also found a good selection of games in the living room's coffee table, to keep us laughing and entertained.

All in, this is an awesome house no matter the season. I could certainly see how great it would be during the warmer months with the lake and canoes just steps from the back porch, but it couldn't of been a better getaway for us coming from the City this time of year. We're looking forward to visiting again when it's warm and again someday when it's cold.

P.S. - Thanks to Fred and Pam who graciously left a note and bottle of champagne in the refrigerator waiting for us. It wouldn't of been New Years without it. :)

Cozy Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I visited this cabin during the week between the Christmas and New Years holidays for some relaxation time and this location did not disappoint. Although we had plans to ski one of the nearby mountains (Gore is about an hour away and Killington is a little under two), we got so cozy sitting by the fireplace that we ended up spending all of our time nestled in the cabin. The property is gorgeous with a large back porch overlooking a small, private lake, a large, well-stocked kitchen, and a spacious living room area. We will definitely be visiting again!

Awesome!!

  • 5 of 5

We visited the Historic Cabin on Lake Lucerne with another couple for a weekend of relaxation and leaf peeping! We could not have asked for better accommodations. The cabin is warm and inviting; decorated perfectly. The back porch was the perfect destination for an afternoon cocktail and we enjoyed the outdoor fire pit. We all agreed that the beds were amazing!!! The location was super convenient from the Albany Airport and close to the mountains and Lake George. The owners were very helpful before and during our stay. Definitely, would stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

A charming retreat

  • 5 of 5

Another lovely weekend getaway in Lake Luzerne! I recently returned to this cozy lake-side cabin for a relaxing weekend in the Adirondacks. We enjoyed a leisurely drive from Massachusetts through NH, VT, and NY to take full advantage of the breathtaking fall foliage. We spent the weekend at the cabin cooking (an easy to use grill on the back deck and all updated kitchen amenities) and lazing by the fireplace reading a book. We went to Prospect Mountain in the late afternoon, but the mountain closes at 4:30pm. That evening we enjoyed dinner at the local pub close to the cabin called The Longhorn.

The perfect place to spend an autumn weekend in New York!! I will certainly be returning this winter for skiing at Gore Mountain. Always such a pleasure at this beautifully decorated and perfectly cozy cabin.

Several water rafting outfitters, horseback riding, and snowmobile touring are less than 10 minutes away. Minutes away from The Painted Pony Rodeo. Tons of fun but nothing like a quite and peaceful day at the lake!
