Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in North Side

1 Bedroom 1 Bathroom Sleeps 4

This apartment is in the perfect location - near tons of restaurants and bars, the CTA station with three different lines, and only a mile from Wrigley Field

The apartment itself is all yours - with a full kitchen, a queen bed, and a pull-out couch.

It is on the first floor of a building with three other apartments.

There is a full kitchen with stovetop, oven, dishwasher, toaster, full size fridge and freezer, microwave, and coffee maker. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need for cooking and there is an eating table with two chairs (and two extra if needed).

There is a separate bedroom with queen size bed with a night-table, as well as a big clothes closet.

In the main living room area there is a pull-out couch and a television and DVD player, as well as a coffee table and end table.

There is also a deck off of the living room with a few chairs, a small common "backyard," and coin-operated washer/dryer in the basement.

The building has a keyless entry system with a code that the guest will receive, and there is a lock box for the actual unit key.

Guests will have access to the basement to use the washer/dryer.

Very convenient to several train lines. .3 miles from the Southport CTA station with the brown line and .5 miles from the Belmont station with the red, purple, and brown lines - you can get anywhere in the city from here! An easy commute from O'Hare or Midway airports, and very quick to get downtown to the loop. Also the bus on Belmont can take you over to the lake shore.

No more than 4 ARE have fun!

Renter property for a weekend stay.

Positives = location and bed was adequate. ( 2 stars)

Negatives= the place is pretty filthy and severely neglected. Pictures posted on the VRBO site are from another time. Surfaces wiped off but not clean. The bathroom is disgusting. Toilet not clean, the bathtub/shower surround had caulk peeling off in addition to mold, shower fixtures dripping/squirting water, shower curtain liner hadn't been replaced since I don't know when, serious soap scum/ mold/dirt. Had to wipe off the headboard of the bed due to the dust and dirt. The refrigerate had food spills inside and out. Mini blinds, window sills, tv stand all disgusting. Tried to make coffee on the last morning...coffee machine didn't work. (Meet the property owner the day before and he seemed very nice. He asked how things were going and I imagine that issue would have been resolved had there been time to resolve it but I can't help but wonder if it had been broken for some time.) With effort and elbow grease this rental could be very nice.

I would have posted the pictures that were taken of this property that substantiates the above comments but VRBO does not allow.

Owner's Response: Hi Barbara, we are very sorry to hear your experience was not up to your or our expectations. We certainly wish you would have expressed any concerns you had during your stay (or even directly to us after your stay), as we are always more than happy to try and address them immediately if at all possible. For example, the next guest in the apartment alerted us to the coffee maker, and we immediately replaced it with a new one! As far as cleanliness is concerned, we do have the apartment cleaned from top to bottom between each stay. The building is vintage and shows wear that a brand new building would not. This is a fact we try to make clear through our pictures, description and pricing. But if guests ever notice dust or any spots they are not perfectly comfortable with, we would love to know right away so we can have it cleaned further on the spot! Thanks very much, and best of luck in your future travels. Jeremy

Awesome and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We loved the property. It was our first time renting a home vs hotel. The house was clean and efficient. Jeremy, the owner, was easy to talk to and very accommodating. We felt very safe and comfortable. Very close to restaurants, shopping, and grocery stores. Once we parked our car we didn't use again until we left. There was no onsite parking but had no problem, with parking one street behind apt. We used Ubet to go downtown bot the trains are very close. We will definitely go back. Thanks Jeremey for making our trip too your city very enjoyable.

Good location and size

  • 4 of 5

This apartment was bigger than I thought it would be and worked perfect for our family of 4. Great location and street parking was easy to find. The apartment only has an AC window unit but it works fine for keeping the whole apartment cool. A couple things that could be improved 1) The side door that people leave in and out of it needs to be fixed as it sticks and people have to SLAM the door to close it. Bring a box fan for white noise and you won't hear the slamming door. Overall tenants are very quite otherwise.

2). Apartment is clean enough but could definitely be cleaner. Thick dust on baseboards, tv stand shelves, and ceiling fans. Black spots in the shower too.

Great value in a great location

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here a few weeks ago for a father-son trip to Chicago to catch a Cubs game at Wrigley. It was my first time to Chicago and a friend in the area suggested we stay in the Lakeview area. The suggestion was spot on as we were close to Wrigley and close to many bars and restaurants. The apartment was consistent with posting on VRBO and had everything we needed for our short stay. The building is old and has a few quirks but nothing major. The owner was extremely responsive to all emails and provided detailed instructions on how to gain entrance, parking, Wifi, and other amenities. The owner also provided a useful packet of information regarding things to do in the area, transportation, restaurants, etc.

This was the first time using a VRBO so I didn't know what to expect. Given the price I expected a bit more. The biggest issue was the shower which did not properly work

Owner's Response: Hi Kathie, thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. We are very sorry to hear your experience was not up to your or our expectations. While we try our best to keep the apartment in tip top shape, sometimes things do break. We took a look at the shower immediately after you told us of the issue at check out, and we were able to quickly fix the issue. It works perfectly again! We encourage you, and all our future guests, to inform us of any issues right when they come up so we can address them immediately and make the remainder of the stay more comfortable! Thank you again for your feedback, as we want to work to make this the best experience possible for all future guests! Best, Jeremy

Great Location in Lakeview.

  • 4 of 5

This apartment in Lakeview was centrally located to everything I needed during my stay -- I was able to park my car and walk everywhere I wanted to go. I felt safe out walking alone in the area, even after dark. [There is no on-site parking, so you must find available parking on nearby side streets, which was not difficult. Many of the side streets are permit-only, so just be alert for signage.] It was my first time in Chicago and I really enjoyed exploring the city on foot and walking along the lake shore.

The apartment was accurately described in the listing. However, if you are looking for posh accommodations or a lot of homey touches, this apartment might not be for you: the space itself is very basic and offers only the bare necessities. The queen bed in the bedroom -- and futon in the family room -- are both very comfortable. I slept quite well, even when I nodded off watching TV late at night! Having Wi-Fi was very convenient. The space was fairly clean -- not spotless, but I was comfortable enough to walk around barefoot. The apartment was surprisingly quiet inside for being located on a busy thoroughfare. There are tenants above this apartment, so you are somewhat at their mercy if they decide to take up tinikling, but I had no complaints about them! There is a coin-operated washer and dryer in the basement, which I found quite handy.

{One note: the apartment does not have central air conditioning, if that is an issue for you. I'm warm-natured and was a little uncomfortable. There is a window unit in the main area; however, when I arrived it was not working due to a broken plug. I rewired a new plug onto the cord and got the unit running, but its cooling effect was minimal.}

Jeremy (the homeowner) was very friendly and responsive. He answered all of my questions quickly and provided clear directions to the unit and instructions for entry. He offered his assistance many times during our email exchanges -- from answering questions to providing recommendations. I felt at ease asking him anything.
