Lucky Horse Show Cottage is the perfect place to relax, write your next book, or as a retreat to rest up for a day exploring the plantations or the bayous and a night enjoying dinner at Galatoire's and drinks at the Carousel Lounge.
Your dogs will love the courtyard and walking on the levee past the historic Jackson Barracks into Old Arabi for lunch.
We're two retired teachers who love literature, theatre, animals, and good food.
Kore Alexis purchased this cottage in 2010
We absolutely fell in love with Holy Cross because it's a few minutes from downtown but feels like a small, rural village. The Mississippi River is gorgeous, the trees, birds, wildlife is abundant and the neighborhood is so friendly and peaceful. Heaven!
We moved here in 2010 (two women!) when the neighborhood was sparsely populated post-Katrina, have never felt unsafe, and love all our new neighbors who have bought here and renovated. We do have security cameras on Lucky Horse Shoe Cottage (and on our house right next door) and the cottage has an ADT Alarm system for your peace of mind.
Come see Holy Cross-it's beautiful, timeless, quiet, and an historic part of this great city.
Staying in Holy Cross is the perfect way to enjoy New Orleans; you can go go go all day and night and return to Lucky Horse Show Cottage for peace and rejuvenation. Yet, you are just minutes from all the fun, food, history, and joy that is the French Quarter, Garden District, Bywater, Marigny...
What can I say, these two ladies are funny, kind, generous and we only wish they'd move to NOLA! They arrived with 44 lbs of cat food for our precious kitties and fed and bonded with them throughout their stay. And, our ferals fell in love with them! Amazing! As guests they were PERFECT and treated the cottage with love. In short, we loved them and can't wait for them to come back (neither can the kitties). Beyond highly recommended!
Where to begin?! Kore is an absolute wonderful lady! She was so very friendly and stayed in contact to make sure everything was fabulous. She even gave us a list of recommended local places to eat and visit. The cottage is just wonderful, exactly as pictured. Easy to get to and easy to get to many of the attractions that New Orleans has to offer. There is just so many things to see and experience, that we just ran out of time. It was a fabulous time and we really enjoyed being able to come "home" and relax after having a full day of adventures. I would most definitely stay here again and again. It was one of the best vacations we've had in a long time. Thank you again Kore!
Where do I start. Kore is absolutely the BEST! The cottage was immaculate and stocked with all the needed essentials and then some, like some local beers in the fridge as well as special blend coffee, biscotti and milk. She is right next door and readily available to answer any questions and offer suggestions of places to eat, things that are "must see's", where to buy groceries & fresh seafood, etc. She told us where to park when we went to downtown NOLA, so we did not have to pay for parking and offered some great nature alternatives for us to do once she found out we prefer nature stuff to the "party scene". She is such a wealth of information about the area and the history of NOLA that it was just a great pleasure listening to her talk. One evening she even brought us over some fresh basil and garlic for us to use on our local shrimp we were grilling for dinner, and a couple more local beers. I have to let you know that the cottage is not in downtown NOLA, you do have to drive to get there and the area of Holy Cross (where the cottage is) is still in renovations from Hurricane Katrina; but the Jackson Barracks - NOLA's National Guard is literally at the end of the block and safety is not an issue (We didn't feel it was anyway) and the mix of renovated houses and still vacant houses really puts the devastation of the Hurricane in perspective and makes you appreciate the efforts going in to getting things back up and going. Kore has such a huge heart that she even took it upon herself to care for all the stray kitties that were left behind after the Hurricane. On any given night we could see them come around at dusk to be fed; we enjoyed it so much that we also started feeding them on our patio and sure enough every night we had kitties eating the food we put out - although they do not like shrimp with the heads still on, they will eat the shrimp and leave behind the heads (- : The walk to the levy on the Mississippi River was a treat in itself as you can see downtown NOLA and watching the sun set with the city in the background was beautiful; then the realization of how high the water rose during the Hurricane really sinks in. All in all, we would definitely stay there again and plan to stay in touch with Kore (she is working on trying to tame a kitty that we fell in love with), and recommend it to anyone who wants a great little place to stay and experience what NOLA is really all about: History and not "parties".
Cottage looks just like the pictures, it was immaculate, peaceful, relaxing. Kore lives next door, and was an amazing host. She gave us wonderful suggestions of places to go, and places to take our dogs. The cottage is close to everything and walking distance to the Mississippi. It was a wonderful stay.
I was very impressed with this quaint little cottage. Very clean, in a quiet neighborhood and close to everything. I liked the little patio in the back where you can go sit and relax. I was very lucky to have gone when the weather was perfect. And it was nice of Kore to right next door and make herself available if needed.
First thing that strikes you is how calming the cottage is. It had ever thing we needed to prepare simple meals for when we didn't was to eat out. The owner was so nice and gave us great tips and directions. She even can traced us while we were out about the weather change and offered to switch the heater around so we would be comfortable when we returned. We will definitely look into staying here again if we make a return trip.
Kore was a great hostess! The house was clean and very comfortable. My husband and I were calling it home almost the whole time we were there! We felt very safe and truly enjoyed our stay. Literally the only thing I would say they were lacking was a full body mirror (seems silly but we had a fancy ceremony to prepare for, thank goodness for our phones) . I recommend renting a car for sure because it is a bit far to rely on public transportation or a bike if you have to go anywhere past the French Quarter.
Historic Holy Cross is just a quick ten minute drive (with traffic) into hip Bywater and the French Quarter. We're a quiet, stunningly beautiful community nestled next to the Mississippi River which is incredibly close to all the fun, history, and nightlife of New Orleans. Bienvenue!
