About Ty McConney
I'm a citizen of the USA and Barbados. An interesting mix of a Barbadian father and Japanese mother. My wife is also Japanese. We have a teenage son and live in Santa Cruz, California My uncle/aunt live around the corner from Jahmoon and help me to manage the property. Several trustworthy friends reside locally and can be of assistance as well. I visit occasionally but not enough. We love Barbados and want to share it with nice people!
Ty McConney purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Ty McConney chose Saint Lawrence Gap
The location of this property is incredible. So convenient to the beaches, airport, clubs and Bridgetown. Both Sandals Barbados and Turtle Beach resorts are right down the street but not so close to be noisy. Because it's a tourist zone, the area is well lit and monitored by police. There's so much to do within walking distance! Bus stop is 1 minute away and taxi access is easy. Oistins is 10 minutes by car or bus. You may not even need to rent a car but we can help you to arrange one if you'd like. Guests have a dedicated parking spot in front of the house. Access to the property is via lockbox. There is one lockbox at the front gate and another one at the cottage entrance. Lock combinations will be provided in advance.
What makes this Cottage unique
The entire property is walled so you have excellent privacy. Can't see your neighbors so be a tanning minimalist! I've spent a lot of time designing the flower garden and it's always in full bloom. The property is full of bougainvillea, cactus, desert rose and other colorful flora. Lots of hummingbirds and singing frogs. My neighbors have large mango trees so oftentimes, you can even watch the monkeys but please don't feed them!

Great location, wonderful service, awesome accommodation.
So enjoyed our two week stay at Umi cottage. The amenities were as stated. Bonus to have a washer and a large refrigerator. Our host Ty, although not on site had arranged for a friend to be our contact, Anne was attentive and also happened to own The Sand Dollar Cafe, great food. He also made sure that we were aware of where we could rent beach chairs and umbrellas, Charles Water Sports, and to check out Expressions Gifts. Dover beach soon became our little community. Would certainly recommend this property and stay again in the future. Pam & Bruce Halverson - April 2019

Lovely well equipped cottage close to all amenities-secure & private-loved it!
Lovely little cottage at the bottom of the garden-see photos-well equipped-had our meals outside on the decking.
Lovely flowering trees-plenty of birds visit them. Close to bus stop for Oistins/Bridgetown. Bars/cafes beach 5 mins down the road. Would def go again!
Loved our stay!
Umi cottage is an updated, nicely equipped property. We found it clean and in great shape. We enjoyed the independence of staying where we could cook our own food, as restaurants can be very expensive in Barbados. Uncle Courtenay was responsive, bringing a couple supplies when we asked. Plus, we're not big on drinking, so all-inclusives can frustrate as I don't feel like we get our money's worth. Anyways, you'll enjoy your stay in the Umi cottage. Although it is small, it's in great shape and conveniently located. For some reason, we couldn't get the cable working on the tv, which may be our own fault, but it would have been nice to be able to catch a movie at night. I tried to get it to work a couple times, but gave up.
Loved our Cottage
The cottage was very neat and tidy. When we arrived there was some bottle water, soda, and bathroom condiments available so we didn't have to rush out to get supplies. It was so nice to be able to sit on the patio with your morning coffee enjoying the humming birds, little lizards and occasionally a green monkey. The location of the cottage was a 5-10 minute walk to the beach and all the restaurants on the GAP and there was plenty of lighting on the streets so if your out after dark it was safe to walk home. I would definitely stay in the cottage again if and when I were to go back to Barbados.
The property was dirty when I came .I had to clean the spiderwebs that were all over the house .Ty told me somebody had came to clean which wasn't true .I never got my deposit back One of the worst experiences I've had .
We have several rental properties and have always received 4 or 5 star ratings from pleasant guests but then there's Victoria. She was the absolute worst rental experience we've ever experienced. Victoria is deceptive and untrustworthy. While in Barbados alone, she said she was lonely, wanted to go home and requested a refund. Of course, we refused since she was already onsite for several days. Subsequently, she contacted her credit card company directly to initiate a credit without telling us...and while still residing in the cottage for the full 2 weeks! And during her stay, she had several unauthorized visitors sleeping at the property and created a mess of the place with empty liquor bottles and half eaten food. Upon discovering her deceptive approach and her nasty living conditions in our cottage, we desperately awaited the end of her 2 week stay. She ignored the checkout time and stayed well into the evening before departing. And then it got worse.
Unfortunately, we failed to change the lockbox codes for the cottage so she TRESPASSED onto the property the following week and spent 2 more nights in the cottage until she was discovered as a squatter. We engaged the Barbados police and immigration officials to have her removed from the property and the island. Needless to say we were shocked by her criminal behavior.
The cottage is very clean and accommodating as noted in previous, legitimate reviews. We have given her a 1 star rating and filed a formal complaint with VRBO in hopes that other hosting families don't have to experience such a terrible guest. We've learned our lesson and will only rent to experienced, verified guests henceforth. We would strongly recommend not renting to this woman.
One of the best locations on the island. Privacy of your own cottage in an enclosed (walled) yard. Short walk to beach and St. Lawrence Gap night life area. Easy access to public transportation to Bridgetown and Oistins.
Dover Beach is one of the best on the island and is just a short stroll down the street. There are several staffed information booths where you can reserve local tours and activities. Visit Oistins on Friday night for the famous "fish fry". Fun outdoor karaoke at Dover Beach on Sunday nights. Or maybe watch a cricket match at Dover Field.
On the east coast of the island, Bathsheba offers breathtaking views of the rugged Atlantic coast. Great surfing at the world famous Soup Bowl...beware, experts only!
On the west coast AKA the "Platinum Coast" has calmer Caribbean waters, pricey resorts and large estates owned by celebrities such as Simon Cowell and Oprah Winfrey. Most celebrities stay at the Sandy Lane Resort which is where Tiger Woods got married in 2004. Regular sightings of our local girl Rihanna and F1 legend Lewis Hamilton. A bit too posh for our taste so we stay on the South Coast with the common folks!
