Be our guest in a beautiful piece of American history! Built in 1790, this log home exemplifies a page from our history books with original wood floors, walls and beams. Located just 5 minutes walk from downtown, Lincoln Square, the home was once owned by Thaddeus Stevens and sits with a front seat view of where the Confederates occupied West Middle Street during the Battle of Gettysburg. The home, while keeping it's historic character, also contains modern conveniences (central air conditioning, recessed lighting, fully updated kitchen and baths, etc.). The Thaddeus Steven's house has 3 cozy bedrooms (upstairs, 2queen, 1full) and 1 & 1/2 bathrooms. Perfect for a couple, family or group of friends! Join us in this gorgeous historical home as you explore Gettysburg! **Please keep in mind the home was built in a time, when people were smaller. Ceilings and doorways are low. The floors slant and creak. The closet space is limited. Appreciate where you are--transported to a special time--imagine yourself in another era! Enjoy Gettysburg!
We arrived late at night and Sarah had written a lovely note, warmed up the house for us and left lights on - what a fantastic welcome. It only got better when we discovered the house had Christmas decorations and Sarah had very kindly gifted all 5 of us presents under the tree! Sarah was such a pleasure to deal with and such a great host (including coming down when we locked ourselves out!!) which matched the fantastic house. Everything we could of needed was available to us. House stayed beautifully warm the entire time and there was enough room for all 5 adults to comfortably live. We loved our stay and if ever returned to experience an American Christmas, no doubt would come back.
Our family booked this trip awhile back without realizing it was remembrance day in Gettysburg! So between the lovely home with lots of charm and character and history and all of the activities in town, we could not have asked for more. The home is very clean and well decorated.. with more space then we actually thought we would have. Fully Stocked kitchen, and linens.. I would love to visit again! Highly recommend.
We loved our family history vacation at this amazing home. It was small which gave us lots of together time. Located in walking distance to shops, shops, and more shops. This home has thoughtful extras to make you feel welcome. We will always remember our vacation in the Thaddeus Stevens' Log home.
The house was adorable and Sarah was a great host. Three couples stayed there for a weekend when we were back in town for our college reunion and we couldn't have asked for anything better. Perfect location!
This home has a lot of character, and was a joy to stay in. Since it was built in 1790, it was complete with hardwood, slope-y floors, low ceilings and doorways...this is the character. Located in the heart of downtown historic Gettysburg, the front windows would have been a front row seat to the Confederate's approach to Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. If you're looking for something historical and fun, this place is for you, puts you right square in the middle of events occurring July 1 - July 3, 1863. It doesn't get much better than that.
It has modern amenities, of course...running hot and cold water, indoor plumbing, AC/Heat, dishwasher, refrigerator, cable TV, wi-fi, etc...things Mr. Stevens never would have dreamed of. ;-) But these don't detract from the ambiance of the house. However, if you're looking for a five-star hotel, this won't be for you.
John & Sarah were exceptional hosts, very helpful.
Sarah is a lovely, efficient, responsible host, running a unique, interesting option for accommodations in Gettysburg. The cabin is well equipped with everything that you need and in an ideal location to tour Gettysburg and its surrounds.
