Overview

About the property

Be our guest in a beautiful piece of American history! Built in 1790, this log home exemplifies a page from our history books with original wood floors, walls and beams. Located just 5 minutes walk from downtown, Lincoln Square, the home was once owned by Thaddeus Stevens and sits with a front seat view of where the Confederates occupied West Middle Street during the Battle of Gettysburg. The home, while keeping it's historic character, also contains modern conveniences (central air conditioning, recessed lighting, fully updated kitchen and baths, etc.). The Thaddeus Steven's house has 3 cozy bedrooms (upstairs, 2queen, 1full) and 1 & 1/2 bathrooms. Perfect for a couple, family or group of friends! Join us in this gorgeous historical home as you explore Gettysburg! **Please keep in mind the home was built in a time, when people were smaller. Ceilings and doorways are low. The floors slant and creak. The closet space is limited. Appreciate where you are--transported to a special time--imagine yourself in another era! Enjoy Gettysburg!

Beautiful Historical Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed the weekend for the Remembrance Day Parade. The owner was wonderful and the stay was great. Sarah met us there when we arrived to let us in. We really enjoyed staying in a piece of Gettysburg history and it was walking distance to almost everything. We were guests in her house, and I found no problem about the few rules she had.

Great historic home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Thaddeus Stevens' log home for 3 nights. We had so much fun exploring Gettysburg and even traveled to Hersey for a day. However, the house may have been the best part. It has so much charm. One of our days it rained a lot and the house was warm and inviting to spend a large portion of the day in. We made a big family dinner and then played games for hours until bedtime.

The owners (Sarah and John) were wonderful and very helpful. On our final day, we wanted to take a horse-back guided trail ride of the battle fields but the only time still available for that morning would have us getting back to the home at just about check out time (11AM). I contacted Sarah and told her of the issue and she kindly allowed us the extra hour I requested to finish cleaning and packing up (at no extra charge).

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

How could one not love staying in a log home from 1790 where Thaddeus Stevens once lived? Perfectly located within walking distance to the college and a block from town square, the home has everything. From the cozy living room to the most comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchen, we felt so at home. The beautiful original floors add to the character of this charming home that is rich with history. The owner, Sarah, was so welcoming and shared the history of the home with us. We will look forward to staying here again when we visit our daughter at Gettysburg College!

Great place and Hosts, But House Rules Could be Simpler!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed (Myself, Wife, and Daughter) for three days and two nights and it is a really cool place and in the heart of Gettysburg -- very walk-able. The owners are very responsiveness. The one thing, and I mentioned this to the owners as well, is that there are a few too many rules that are not really necessary in my book -- mainly the idea of stripping the beds ourselves and taking the garbage out ourselves. We followed those rules and other hosts have them, but it is actually somewhat stressful in my opinion, especially combined with the deposit fee. Otherwise it would have been 5*

Living in History!

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous location with an easy walk to local restaurants, shopping, etc. Staying in such an historical home was something you just can't capture elsewhere. We all laughed when we were enjoying a movie inside the home and could hear a tour guide outside explaining the history of the home. Owners are wonderful to work with and are quick in answering any questions. The only thing I would recommend to improve the safety of the home would be to install some path lighting from the back of the home to the parking spaces. It gets quite dark at night back there and the walkway is uneven, resulting in us tripping now and again. Overall, an amazing weekend in historic Gettysburg!!
