About Jack Ginnett and Debbie Luke

We have always wanted to live on Smith Mountain Lake and take advantage of the water and the beauty . We looked for a long time and when we saw this property, even in an abused condition, we knew that it had the bones to work. At this point it is a very enjoyable home and spot on the lake. It took a lot of work to get it to this stage. We plan to keep improving it, though . We hope that others can also enjoy it as much as we do.

Nice House

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at your house was very nice, pictures and descriptions were very accurate. We were there over Thanksgiving and cooked a huge meal, the kitchen was very well equipped so we found everything we needed. Master bedroom was great, loved the sleep number bed, two bedrooms downstairs were nice, the bedroom on the main level would be nice to have a queen or even a king in that bedroom, the twin beds were so uncomfortable that my son slept on the couch after the first night. The weather was warmer then usual for this time of year so we were able to go down to the dock, great view and very peaceful (my dad even said something about maybe coming back in the summer time). The location of the house has its good and bad points, good is it is close to grocery store, wineries and restuarants, bad is the long gravel road drive to the house but not so bad to take a star away!! ;). Thanks again for renting out your house, we had a great time!!

Owner's Response: Hi and thank you for taking the time to post a review! We are happy that your Thanksgiving meal and stay was so enjoyable. We also like the sleep number bed in the Master bedroom and the space that the room affords You have hit a conundrum though on the first floor bedroom. Its difficult to do a one size fits all on the bedrooms. In a lot of cases, families have small children and the beds in that room are just right for that mix. In your case (and others) those beds don't work because they are meant for smaller people. Regardless, we are thinking of going to a larger bed, which would mean one less total bed, but maybe its for the best? You have hit another point, the gravel road. My daughters like to walk to the winery from the house. Me, its the price I pay to enjoy the dock and the water and I have kinda gotten used to the road. We did enjoy your review and are glad that you had a "great time!!".

The home was in good shape; no issues or problems. The owner was easy to talk to. Nice place to get away and relax for a few days.

Wonderful Fall Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great weekend in this beautiful home! It was very quiet and secluded, yet close to restaurants and shops. We enjoyed lunch in the screened porch, drinks on the dock, and several games of pool. Lots of windows and sky lights let us enjoy the outdoors while we sat inside enjoying our morning coffee (love the coffee pot!) or watching college football (flat-screen tvs plus Direct TV!!!).

We took walks near the house (that steep driveway is great exercise!) and also explored SML State Park. We enjoyed eating at several restaurants (breakfast at Old Oak Cafe, lunch/dinner at Jake's Place and Vinny's) checking out Bridgewater Plaza and ice cream at the Homestead Creamery (definitely worth the drive).

The owners were very easy to work with. The fresh flowers were a nice welcoming touch. We definitely recommend this property and hope to stay there again!

Owner's Response: Wonderful Fall Getaway! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Thank you for you're wonderful comments! We can't take credit for the flowers though, a very nice couple got them and we left them because we thought they looked nice. Glad that you enjoyed them. We are so glad that you weathered the storm and were still able to enjoy your stay. We also like to be able to go out and about and still have the privacy to enjoy quiet moments, especially in the fall. Thank you again and glad you had a good time.

Fall Family Break

  • 5 of 5

This gorgeous home on SML was the perfect location between our childrens' colleges which made it a great meeting place for our rainy family fall break. The rainy weekend inhibited our use of the lake, Kayaks, and large dock that this home offers. Filling our weekend with pool & foos ball tournaments, card games, baking, college football games on the 2 flat screens, movies from their large collection, and listening to the rain on the screened porch made for a relaxing weekend get away for our family of five. This home's location is close to the only bridge making it easy to access either side of the lake. The nearby Food Lion was also very convenient since we prepared and enjoyed our meals at the lake-side home.

Owner's Response: So sorry about the weather, but it sounds like it didn't deter you at all. Thank you for the compliments about our house, we do enjoy it when we're there and we like it for the same reasons as you. If the weather is bad, there are other things to do and that screened porch does come in handy. Did you try the card table? Thank you a for you're very nice compliments. We hope that you return to enjoy those things, like the kayaks, that you weren't able to enjoy this time.

Clean, bright, comfortable, well-appointed, nicely decorated. Great lake view with good access.

  • 4 of 5

The driveway to the property was very close to the neighbor's driveway and trailer. We found parking limited. Once inside the house, we could not have felt more at home. Everything was clean and neat with lots of natural light provided by the many windows and french doors. The two decks provided wonderful places to relax and having breakfast on the screened porch was a treat. The well-chosen furniture and decor added color and style to the spacious rooms and we found everything we needed both in the kitchen and elsewhere to make our stay comfortable. All the white appliances were new and in perfect working order. We especially liked the coffee maker and plan to buy one like it! I would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to have a relaxing vacation at Smith Mountain Lake. A special "thank you" to the owners for listing this property.

Owner's Response: Hi, glad that you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed you coffee in the morning overlooking the cove. We also find it relaxing, open, and spacious when we can find the time to stay there. The driveway is close to the neighbors, but we couldn't ask for better people, on both sides. Because we are used to it, we get 4 vehicles down by the house and another up next to the boat trailer, which is pretty good for a 3 bedroom house. You would have no way of knowing this, but we also own a lot of the gravel area in front of the boat trailer which also serves as parking and of course there is the length of the driveway. The steepness of the driveway can be intimidating so I understand your concern. The fun though is lake and the house and we are so glad that you were able to relax and enjoy.

What a wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed out stay. We had the perfect weather and the perfect house to enjoy our vacation. The kitchen was well stocked with every gadget we needed. The master bedroom was incredible. We really spent almost all our time on the dock. Plenty of room to spread out. We enjoyed Kayaking around the coves and floating on our rafts. We really look forward to coming back again soon! Thanks Jack & Debbie!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and the kayaks. We have tried to make the house and the dock area comfy for our guests. It is after all a "lake" vacation. Thanks Again!
