Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Baileys Harbor

1850 Sq Ft Home W/3 Full Baths, 2 Bedrooms On Main Floor And Loft, Pier w/ladder

A perfect location between Sister Bay and Baileys Harbor. This home is away from the hustle and bustle of the towns, yet conveniently situated when needing last minute items or when wanting a little more activity. We just purchased home in 2015 so there are limited reviews. You may check out our other rental home located on the south side of Baileys Harbor VRBO# 467927 which has over 40 reviews averaging 5 stars.

The house was just finished with a major interior remodeling. Remodeling project includes: hardwood flooring, painting, new kitchen, bathroom work, including 2 new tiled showers, and new mattresses. We are very excited to update the interior of our home to make it up to date and inviting.

This property has a view of the historical Cana Island lighthouse which is within walking distance. It is also located next to one of the State of Wisconsin Forests known as Spike Horn and Baileys Harbor Boreal Forest, which has a large hiking path and beach frontage.

The home, built in 1990, has all the modern conveniences you would expect. The two screened porches, facing lakeside, capture the beauty of the water and the lighthouse, as does the expansive deck.

We have added a new 80' pier for 2016 with a swim ladder.

The interior of the home has a foyer and great room which boasts a two-story ceiling with many windows that allow the natural light and surrounding beauty to enter from each side.

The kitchen is spacious and and opens up to the dining and great room. Appliances are new with dishwasher, and refrigerator with an ice maker. The laundry room has a washer and dryer for your convenience. Capable of hosting many guests this three bedroom home has access to three full baths. The master bedroom and bath are located on the main level as is the second bedroom and a full bath. The second level has a loft bedroom with a full bath.

The 6 acre lot is fully wooded with majestic cedars and pines. View wildlife visiting the back yard and enjoy a campfire in the fire pit next to the water.

*** All stays less than 1 week or overlapping designated turnover day during peak season are subject to approval. We only book weekly during July and August unless there is an odd date open.

About Chris

This is our third VRBO home in Door County as we have been in the vacation rental business for several years. The home was built in 1989 and is very comfortable and in good shape. We completed our major remodeling in 2016 that everyone is sure to love. It's exciting to transform an already very nice home into one you will be sure to remember when you come back to visit Door County again.

Growing up in Door County, we have always loved the Cana Island area. There is amazing beauty in this unique location halfway between Sister Bay and Baileys Harbor.

We hope you enjoy your stay and look forward to providing you with a memorable stay.

Chris purchased this house in 2015

What makes this house unique

We love this area of Door County with its pristine shorelines, mature trees and abundant wildlife. Door County resembles the Atlantic Coast of New England with its rugged limestone shorelines and bluffs. This home is located away from all the noise and congestion of other areas yet is conveniently located to most activities of Door County in less than 10 minutes. We love outdoor activities such as going to the beach, hiking endless trails, kayaking or paddle boarding by the lighthouses and bays, world class King Salmon, Small-mouth Bass and trophy Walleye fishing, golfing, awesome kiteboarding and its all right here without the noise and congestion of traffic. There is also very fine dining in all of the towns in Door County whether you like steaks and seafood, Italian or a Friday fish fry. Door County boasts several wineries as well as art and theatre entertainment. Every weekend there is a festival in one or more of the nearby towns. We find that one summer is not enough time to take it all in, but we love trying. We are very excited to be able to offer such a great property for you to enjoy your vacation at and we care about your visit being memorable.

A Very Happy Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home in Door County Wisconsin!

The property grounds, lighthouse view and house/home layout exceeded our expectations and met our vacation needs perfectly.

Quiet, secluded setting - yet, close to everything.

We ate, drank and shopped our way through the county.

We had an awesome time and discussed returning during the more active Door County "season".

Thank you for your pet-friendly attitude and your confidence that responsible pet owners will be respectful of your property.

November get away

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying at your home, the updates that have been done were with high quality products. Location wise it was perfect for our family, secluded with water views and close enough to all the other towns and parks in the area.

Quiet, remote get-a-way

  • 3 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, this could be just right for you. I stayed in late October and the color was spectacular. The house was clean and spacious with beautiful kitchen and baths. I've been to the Door many times over the years and this visit was simply to relax in front of a fire. The heat had not been on prior to my arrival so it was very cold in the house. If you're accustomed to down pillows, I would recommend bringing your own along with extra washcloths and towels (and possibly sheets). You won't find much here by way of television channels or a DVD/Blueray player. The reason I did not give the house a higher rating is the smell. The odor of a septic system was overwhelming as soon as I exited my vehicle in the driveway. The smell was truly horrible and present throughout the house, especially in the bathrooms. I stuck it out, opened the windows and the odor dissipated after a couple of hours. If the owner addressed this problem, I would give the home four stars.

Owner's Response: I am glad you liked the beauty and cleanliness of the home. I only regret you did not call us regarding the odor. We found out about it from our cleaning service and had it investigated and fixed the same day. There was an electrical problem with the new septic pump. We live nearby and are happy to assist travelers if a problem comes up. There is Dish satellite TV, but no premium channels like HBO. The linens and pillows are new 2016 and are good quality. Baileys Harbor Fall getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay in this private Baileys Harbor retreat! This home is directly across from Cana Island Lighthouse. The view is beautiful! Our hosts provided all the amenities for a comfortable stay. We couldn't ask for a better vacation property. We certainly will be back. Our only wish would be the use of the tempting wood burning fireplace in the cool fall evenings. Thanks for your hospitality!

Owner's Response: Fiorentina, Thank you for your review of our home. We are glad you enjoyed yourselves and look forward to you visiting us again soon. We are fine with people using the fireplace when weather cools down, we just don't want a fire in summer when air conditioning is running. Guests should also be aware of how to use the damper on chimney. It must be open before starting a fire and not closed until the next day when you are 100% sure there is no longer any warm ashes still smoldering. We do not provide wood for guests. If there is wood left on site you are welcome to use it, but otherwise one should purchase a couple bundles in town.

A Beautiful Home Nestled in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

When searching for vacation properties, my husband and I were looking for 3 things: Dog friendly (we have 2 retrievers), Close to home (we live in Chicago), & Clean. This home was absolutely perfect! Very beautiful, clean, and felt very welcoming. The house is tucked back in deep woods and directly across the street from the water. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest while we were there (rained most of the days) but we brought our rain jackets & made the most of it. It may have been because it was so damp, but the mosquitos would swarm you whenever you went outside. Bring bug spray! The road can get a bit of traffic as it is the road to Cana Island Lighthouse, so if you have young children or dogs, keep a close eye on them. The only thing that we would change was 1) there was an actual beach on the property (which you can't really change) and 2) my husband was hoping for a fire pit on the same side of the road as the house was on. (however, this wouldn't have gotten used as it was rainy all week). Baileys Harbor was great. We had dinner at Chives Restaurant which was delicious. We also enjoyed going to the Blue Ox & Peninsula Pub for some after dinner drinks. Baileys Harbor is on the quieter part of the peninsula, but is driving distance from everything! We are so glad that we found this property as it went beyond meeting all of our needs! Definitely would recommend this property!

Owner's Response: Lindsey, We are glad you thought so highly of the home and its location. The bugs are normally not too bad, but you did have a lot of rain that week. I was just out in the yard for several hours today with out bug spray and did not see any mosquitoes. So it is typical Wisconsin ... always changing. There can be some traffic on Cana Island Road during lighthouse hours, but it is slow. I agree one should always keep an eye on pets and children. We placed the fire pit down by the water for safety concerns of our neighbors. There is a large state forest behind the home and we don't want any accidental fires. A nice small sand beach on the state land is located about a block down the road. Shore conditions change with water levels. Maybe someday there will be sand on our shore. I do like sitting on the edge of the pier looking over the bay. It is very tranquil in the morning. Chives restaurant is a favorite of ours. It has a great breakfast and dinner menu. We look forward to you visiting again! Chris and Robin

Very comfortable, clean house. The bathroom and kitchen remodels were great!

  • 5 of 5

Very spacious and well kept house. We loved the quite, peaceful setting. We especially appreciated being able to view a magnificent sunrise over the water. The drive to the towns nearby was short and scenic. We did a lot of shopping. Got our feet a bit wet walking over to the lighthouse, but was worth it to see the lighthouse. We were fortunate that the weather was absolutely perfect while we were there. The outdoor movie we took in was definitely a blast from the past which we enjoyed. We loved the deck and spent a fair amount of time just sitting on it and enjoying the surroundings. We would have liked that the fire pit was a bit more accessible and we would have been able to sit around it. We had planned on using it, but it was a bit too awkward. The kitchen remodel was very nicely done and very well stocked with all that we needed. The bathrooms were also nicely remodeled. All in all, we had a very nice stay and would definitely recommend this rental.

Owner's Response: Ellen, We are glad you had a great stay! The remodel was a lot of work, but it did turn out great. We fell in love with the property's great view and large mature woods. I will take a look at how to improve fire pit location. We like having it by the water. It is amazing to watch the moon rise out of Lake Michigan while enjoying a camp fire. Chris and Robin

Door County boasts enjoyable festivals throughout the year. There are a handful of small towns all with their own charm. It is fun to explore the variety of activities featured throughout the county.

Door County also has numerous parks and natural areas to hike and bike. There are eco tours such as zip lining and kayaking (check out Lake Shore Adventures website). The beauty of this area is known as the gem of the mid-west.

There are also several light houses scattered along the shorelines of Lake Michigan. Wether you are a history buff or looking to capture the perfect photo, you will want to visit them.

We also have wineries, breweries, and a distillery that all offer taste sampling and tours.

There is too many great dining options to mention them all. Check out: the Top Deck at sunset, Chives, Pasta Vino and the Fish Market in Baileys Harbor, the Water Front, Mission Grill, and Al Johnson's (for the goats) in Sister Bay.

The Salmon fishing is amazing. You can see the charter boats come into Baileys Harbor with there catches. If you like to fish make time to get on the water with one of Lake Shore Adventures captains. They are experienced captains and will provide you with a memorable trip.

Notes:
We just purchased this home in 2015, in a location that I have loved all my life. We spent several months remodeling the home with all the modern features you would expect. It is a wonderful home on a serene waterfront location that you are sure to love. This home also boasts a new dock in a protected natural bay. There is a swim ladder for those who want to cool off in the clear lake waters.
