This vacation home is in a quiet, peaceful, park-like setting on four acres along the beautiful Bitterroot River, on a quiet country lane. The house is located at the north end of the Bitterroot Valley, at the south end of the Missoula Valley. Missoula is just 15 miles away and has much to offer with shopping, restaurants, museums, farmers markets, the University of Montana. Florence, 3 miles from the house, has several restaurants, a bank, grocery store, and medical facilities. There are several small towns to the south with a variety of restaurants, museums, historical attractions and special events and festivals.
Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck while you watch beautiful sunrises over the Bitterroot River and Sapphire Mountains. In the evening, watch the sun set over the Bitterroot Mountains. Fish, swim, or float the river behind the house or just take a chair down to the river and enjoy the scenery.
Wildlife abound. Canada geese and a variety of ducks use the river. Watch deer and fox wander through the property and eagles and osprey dipping for fish. Hike to nearby mountain trails, lakes, creeks, and ponds.
There are a number of golf courses in Missoula, Stevensville, and Hamilton. And for cyclists, there is a bike path from Lolo south to Darby.
The living room, with glass doors opening to the deck, faces the river and the Sapphire mountain range. The family room, which has a gas fireplace for cool evenings, faces west to the Bitterroot mountain range. It contains a futon that opens to queen-size bed. There are two bedrooms, each with a large bathroom. The main bedroom has a queen bed; the second bedroom has two twin beds.
A sunroom is connected to the main bedroom through french doors. It's a great place to sit and read, work on your computer, or just enjoy the view. The house is spacious and very well stocked and equipped, including your basic cooking essentials and supplies.
There are table and chairs and a gas grill on the east deck.
There is new flooring in the living room, dining room and kitchen. Last season we added a roof over the east deck and screened-in porch off the sunroom.
Limit of six staying at the house. Occasional guests are ok, but no large or noisy groups. Not suitable for "events" as this is a quiet area. Come for the peace and solitude.

We are Dutch and Nancy Dillon and live on the adjoining acreage. There are several acres with each house and lots of trees, so plenty of privacy for both. We've lived in the Bitterroot Valley since the 70's and just can't imagine living anywhere else. It's quiet, peaceful, and beautiful here. We take pride in ensuring the vacation rental is well maintained and that our guests have everything they need to make their stay most enjoyable. We have stayed in vacation rentals ourselves. Using that as a learning experience, we have tried to make our vacation rental as close to home as possible.
The Owner purchased this house in 2004
Peaceful. Quiet. Country living but can be to town (Missoula) in 15 minutes or head the other direction 15 minutes and hike mountain trails.
Watching the sun rise over the Sapphire mountains. Watching the change of colors in the river. Watching the sunsets over the Bitterroot mountains. Fishing in private in the early morning or evening. Quiet, quiet, quiet, only disturbed occasionally by meadowlarks, Canadian geese, and coyotes.
Experience was AWESOME. The views from the house were nothing short of beautiful, the river is literally 200 feet off the back porch, geese everywhere and whitetails playing in the morning out the back door. Home was incredibly comfortable. The beds were great a queen in the master and 2 singles in the other bedroom. I know the singles are great because I slept on one the whole time and i am 6'2" 230 pounds. I gave my daughter and son in law the master suite as they were celebrating their first anniversary. Very, very roomy, if you need a break from everyone you can easily find it, pictures do not do it justice. Missoula takes about 25 minutes to get to which is an easy drive especially due to abundant wildlife. Lolo is only 10 minutes and Florence is 5 minutes. The house has virtually all supplies, I know because we bought sugar, coffee, flour, condiments and I brought a roasting pan for a Turkey, all was unnecessary, as it was already there. I met the owners and they are genuine people, they even placed a dozen eggs from their chickens in the fridge before we arrived. The only regret I have is, I will continue to rent this home over Thanksgiving or Christmas because they are not ready to sell this beautiful home, trust me I asked. I will happily rent this again and again and again.
We had a wonderful stay at Nancy's house on the Bitterroot. The house is very clean and spacious with comfortable beds and seating. Windows are everywhere allowing awesome views of the river and fields and mountains on one side, and the huge snow-capped mountains on the other side. We spent a lot of time on the back porch looking at the river and listening to the cows and geese and many other animals. There were chickens in the yard one day (pretty ones). White tail deer ran through the yard several times as well. We fished the Bitterroot right behind the house and caught several nice cutthroats and rainbows. We would definitely stay at this house again!!!
This was our second visit to this wonderful house. In my first review I said “it simply doesn’t get any better” and I was wrong. Nancy and Dutch continue to improve the place, this time enclosing the sunroom and covering a now expanded patio. The hospitality of our hosts continues to be warm and welcoming. The fishing was excellent and the area is home to some wonderful restaurants. The house was spotless as always. If you enjoy quiet, this is the place. We look forward to next year!!!!!!!!!!
A little piece of paradise .
We had a great time tubing on the river. My family enjoyed quite evening with the windows open.
We even had a few deer visit the yard
The house is only 15 minutes from Missoula so we took the kids to the water park and came home to a peaceful evening
This is the perfect place to rest and connect with family
Always an excellent time at the place. I inadvertently made a mistake in booking the place & the case manager and veterans I sent over thought they had one more night than I had actually reserved. Nancy was more than gracious about it. We worked it out by phone to stay the extra night. Very thankful that the next guests weren't arriving the next day! Embarrassing on my part but the guys are still raving about it. Second trip over this summer for veterans in our program.
The property and house were everything we expected and more! Had everything necessary and stuff that we didn't expect it to have, which made our stay very easy and comfortable!! Had a great time and would love to stay here again!!
