As a life-long Arizona resident, owner Gil Gillenwater is an adventurer at heart having explored both far and wide. In addition to several trans-state hikes, bike rides and river floats here in the USA, Gil has launched numerous expeditions across the globe including several forays into the Himalayan “Hidden Lands” of Tibet. In addition, Gil is the Founder and President of the Rancho Feliz Charitable Foundation, Inc., an IRS registered non-profit that he has operated on the USA/MX border for 30 years. Much of Gil’s time is spent in Mexico dealing with the poverty, in all its myriad forms, which exists on the border.
According to Gil, “Our goal is to trade or share our home with like-minded people who will enjoy and care for it as we would theirs.”
Izzy Hino purchased this house in 2004
With a globally influenced theme in mind, Gil purchased the lot. He visualized the future home surrounded by monument-sized boulders and the energy they inspire. “I knew this was a place I could escape the travails of work and travel and feed my spirit.” Consequently, the home, “Casa Cascada” was designed and built as a retreat, a place of sanctuary, rest, rejuvenation, celebration and exercise.
“The gigantic time sculpted boulders are located right out my front door. You can actually feel the revitalizing force of these massive stones. When in town I visit them daily. Likewise, I designed the Hacienda styled courtyards to take advantage of the views and privacy. I often relax outside on one of the many sleeping platforms or read a book in the oversized sofa bench on the city-view deck. And a dip in the salt-water pool is always fresh. A few weeks in “Casa Cascada” and my girlfriend, Izuru, and I are recharged and ready for our next adventure.”
With their keen interest in hiking, biking, Buddhism, meditation, and yoga “Casa Cascada’s” intriguing atmosphere and sequestered location is the perfect get-away.
In addition, a short walk downhill to the Summit Shopping Complex offers everything from restaurants and bars, dry cleaning, Starbucks, super Safeway and Target shopping centers, pharmacies, banks, office supply, post office, gas station, ice cream and several other boutique shops and stores.
