About Brian and Elisabeth Cross

We currently live in the United States, in California, but as one half of us was born in England and spent the first 35 years of life in England, we were endlessly planning trips to England and absolutely love the Cotswolds. It is a bucolic place and we felt so fortunate to have been able to purchase this lovely home on this beautiful estate.

Brian and Elisabeth Cross purchased this house in 2001

Why Brian and Elisabeth Cross chose Somerford Keynes

We have traveled all over Europe, but always come back to England. The Cotswolds holds us captive due to the beauty of every season. We love going to the local pubs whether it be to sit by a warm fire in the winter or spend a lovely Sunday having lunch outside in the gardens. We are avid walkers and have literally walked from our house to London along the Thames, staying in Inns along the way. We planned the walk ourselves and managed to walk between 12 -18 miles a day and at the end of each day, we were rewarded with a refreshing pint at some great Inn's. We loved the walk, but were absolutely happy to get back to Dragonfly at the end!

What makes this house unique

Old style thatched cottage with all mod cons.

Wonderful house, great facilities

  • 5 of 5

Me and my four closest friends shared this wonderful property for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it! Plenty of space inside, but still cosy. Plenty of showers for the five of us, and nice outside deck to enjoy dinner al fresco.

The Estate had all the facilities we could ever want, it was really nice being able to go to the pool or the tennis courts anytime we wanted. Simple booking system. We did some lovely walks around the lakes too.

Would highly recommend the Cotswold Country Park and Beach for the on lake inflatable obstacle course! We also tried our hand at rifle shooting on our last day at next door Cotswold Range which was brilliant. Lovely villages and walks only a drive away in the Cotswalds. Could have stayed longer! Might be back with the whole family :)

Beautiful and quiet retreat in a great location

  • 4 of 5

Perfect for our short family break in the art of the Cotswold lakes. Great location for cycling which are kids love, as well as for tennis and swimming. Great walks and not far from Cirencester or Swindon. The property was wonderful too, although due to the fact the weekend we stayed turned out to be the hottest May Bank Holiday weekend for 60 years, we did find sleeping challenging in the heat, given the thatched roof, which clearly acted as an excellent radiator, absorbing the heat during the day and kicking it out at night time when we least needed it! But otherwise it was a truly excellent property in a great location and even the awesome weather was efficiently organised for us too... thanks be to God!

We had a lovely time, well equipped house with ample room for 3 adults and 2 children.

Dragonfly was a great base for our holiday. The kitchen was well equipped but lacked space for dry food storage - we used the utility room but it was too warm and melted the kids chocolate!! Lower mill estate has a brilliant outdoor pool, plenty warm enough on overcast days. Regretted not taking tennis rackets, bikes or table tennis rackets as it was expensive to hire equipment. Lots of lovely walks nearby and helpful staff on site. The ice cream from Ballihoo restaurant got the thumbs up from the kids and adults! Would happily return again.

good location, well appointed property

  • 4 of 5

Even in the winter there was lots to do, both in the immediate area of the property and surrounds. The facilities on-site were great (pool, spa and gym), plenty of walks, a local pub and church in walking distance (great carol service taken by a funky vicar!). The village management were most efficient and quickly attended to any queries. We enjoyed the log fire and a cygnet floating up and down the stream outside our lounge windows. Everything we needed was provided-we were able to cook a full Christmas lunch. The only irritation was that the water pressure kept dropping, but even on Christmas Day management were available to provide us with a solution to over-ride the system.
