AWAY FROM STREET, PRIVATE REAR APARTMENT: Enjoy our prime "South of the Boulevard" location with the best of walkable restaurants in a safe and quiet setting! A bright & clean, top quality studio with hardwood floors, this 380 sq. ft. space comprised the south east corner of our main house, but it's now completely private with it's own entrance from a private gated side yard.
BATH EN SUITE: Your private, sunny ceramic tile bathroom area features double vanity, large tile shower (no bath tub) and instant hot water. Note that the entrance to the suite is through this over-sized bathroom, and that the kitchen appliances also share this part of the suite.
BEDDING AND LIGHTING: From the skylight, double-glazed windows and recessed lights on dimmers to the new latex mattress (hypo-allergenic) & memory foam 3" pressure-relieving egg-crate topper, down pillows & duvet, solid tiger mahogany half sleigh bed (no footboard), high thread count cotton sheets, this gem has been thoughtfully prepared for your stay whether few nights or a few months. If you're an unusually warm sleeper, please note that memory foam can be warm to sleep on for some. We love it for comfort though and hope you will as well.
DIMENSIONS: This studio's main room measures roughly 23' x 12' and the bathroom area measures roughly 10' x 12' .
ENTERTAINMENT: Enjoy complimentary private high-speed internet access, 40" Samsung DVRHD TV along with premium Direct TV channels including annual NFL package. We've just added a very comfy recliner!
ENTRANCE FROM PRIVATE SIDE YARD: Your apartment enjoys a private entrance from the gated side yard. My better half and I have our rooms at the other side of the house facing the street, so you can enjoy as much seclusion as you like.
HOSTS: As the owners we are mostly on site yet out of site and at your service when needed. Our goal is to earn your return visits, perfect reviews and referrals, so please let us know how to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
HOUSEKEEPING: Weekly housekeeping for stays of a week or longer: linens changed & fluff 'n' fold included (up to three loads per week) in addition to towels and sheets changed on request. Additional housekeeping available for a nominal fee, making this a perfect fit for entertainment industry professionals spending long days on set as well as those traveling for pleasure or coming to help with a new grandchild.
HOUSE RULES: We make a point of being quiet in the evening so you can relax, and we ask that you observe reasonable quiet hours as well between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.. Please also be mindful of the noise level if you're coming in late as we have neighbors who wake up very early for work on both sides of the house. Please no packages or food deliveries to the house since they invariable come to the wrong door. Do not use our address for any purpose (such as writing it down as your own address on an application) to help us avoid unwanted mail after your stay. No pet are allowed unless specifically listed in your agreement. This is a completely non-smoking property as I work with people who have breathing problems. Please don't smoke anywhere on the property (e-cigs are okay) or in front of our neighbor's house. No hair dyes, tanning agents or anything else that might damage linens may be used in the unit. If you suspect you might have an issue (for example, you just had your hair colored or tanner applied), please let me know prior to your stay so I can use linens that won't be harmed such as black towels to help avoid damage charges. No parties, no drugs, no guests who are not on your contract. Thank you for your understanding.
IMMACULATE: I spend about four hours cleaning between guests from the chandelier to the remote controls and light switches right down to the baseboards. We inspect everything ourselves to ensure quality control. No mysterious bedspreads here; everything is freshly cleaned or laundered including duvet cover and pillow shams. You'll find your private suite quiet, peaceful, private, and perhaps most importantly, squeaky clean.
KITCHEN AREA: Designed for light food prep but not serious cooking, there's plenty of space for fresh groceries and leftovers. Your new kitchenette area (2015 remodel) features an 8 foot peninsula with a huge Kohler cast iron kitchen farm sink, garbage disposal and filtered water on tap. Nearly 24 square feet of quartz countertops with 2 bar stools allow for desk or dining comfort and space. Also: 10 cubic foot refrigerator with separate freezer, microwave, 2-burner hot plate, Keurig coffee maker including complementary K-cups for virtually endless coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Kitchenware, wine-opener and other essentials provided.
PARKING & PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: One visitor parking pass is provided to you for easy parking right in front of the house. Bus stop a block away leads to bus connection to the Metro for downtown access.
RESTAURANTS AND SHOPS: Please check out our guidebook for just a small sample of the countless eateries within a five-ten minute walk including Starbucks two blocks away and Kaiju Japanese restaurant about ten houses away right at Ventura and Woodman.
SAFETY: Please be aware that there are a few stepping stones and a total of four or five steps to access the unit. We prefer to carry your luggage for you and are also happy to walk you to the unit from your car if you have any concerns. This is an extraordinarily safe neighborhood. I am the only person who has access to your unit as I do the housekeeping myself. Unless there is truly an emergency, I will always ask your permission and timing in advance to minimize any inconvenience. Your privacy and security are important to me, so please let me know if you have any questions about access.
STUDIO CLOSE: CBS Radford Studios, NBC Studios, Disney Studios and Warner Brothers Studios are all just a few minutes away without having to hit the freeway or the canyons.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL: Central a/c & heat, plus you have a window a/c unit in the bedroom. There is also a space heater and heated mattress pad with dual control in the colder months. A down duvet is provided, but if you would like a lighter option, a freshly laundered cotton thermal blanket is available on request.
WALKABLE NEIGHBORHOOD: Our picket fence, tree-lined neighborhood near Benedict Canyon Drive and Valley Vista Boulevard provides a safe and quiet respite where you can either stroll down to shopping and dozens of top eateries or wander up to hiking and biking trails in the Santa Monica Mountain Nature Conservancy.
This unique location allows you to drive as little as possible. Even the grocery store is just a five minute walk from here... almost unheard-of in L.A.!

As a vocalist and voice consultant for over twenty-five years, I've traveled extensively and understand the challenges involved in finding a place that felt something like home, or at least allowed room in the refrigerator for a few staples. I enjoy creating a serene and welcoming place that attracts repeat visitors who truly do describe this as their home away from home.
Elizabeth purchased this studio in 1995
My late grandmother, a singer and voice teacher herself, purchased this wonderful place to create a place for her friend and fellow singer to occupy for the last several decades of her life. Though my grandmother never lived here herself, it has always represented to me the most loving and generous part of her nature. After her passing, I purchased the property from her estate after having lived in virtually every part of Los Angeles at one time or another. The more I explored this vast and sprawling city, the more certain I became that I wanted to eventually settle in the Benedict Canyon property. So twenty years ago, I did just that, and I'm so glad I did.
The ability to walk three minutes north to wonderful shops and restaurants, or three minutes south to the Santa Monica Mountains Nature Conservancy trails is quite a treat for us. Also, because the homes south of the Boulevard are all single family homes (plus the occasional guest house), it really feels like a suburban neighborhood with the unusual ability to walk ten doors down to the local sushi place.
We loved the efficiency at this location. Elizabeth met us when we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed and kept in touch during our stay. It was a lovely place, convenient to Sherman Oaks main street (within walking distance) and we will definitely look to stay there again when we return to the area.
This was a cute little place with everything my wife and I needed and an easy drive to where I needed to go, Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Owner is wonderful and very accomodating. Would definitely stay again.
My boyfriend and I stayed at this Sherman Oaks property while visiting family on vacation in the area. This was our first time trying VRBO and we were more than pleased with the experience. Elizabeth was a gracious host who was very flexible when our arrival time had to change. When we arrived Elizabeth showed us to the cottage in the back of her property, gave us some tips on where to eat and the local area and then gave us plenty of privacy. This property is in a very nice neighborhood, very convenient and easy to get to. If you wanted to you could even walk to some restaurants and stores.
The cottage was very clean, the perfect size for us, basically a studio apartment. We didn’t have time to cook but if we wanted to, everything we needed was there. We did enjoy the use of the Keurig machine, coffee and creamer that was there for our use. The bed was so comfortable and cozy with beautiful white linens. The bathroom was elegant with high end finishings , a bathroom we would like to have in our own home.
This is a nice spot to relax and get away from the hustle of Los Angeles. I travel for business and I thought this would be a nice change from having to stay in a hotel.
This is an excellent property. Perfectly sized for a two guests and the location is excellent; great neighborhood, walking distance to Ventura Blvd. and great restaurants.
The owner, Elizabeth, is wonderful. She will do everything she can to make sure you have a great stay. She even had a chilled bottle of wine waiting for us upon our arrival due to it being our honeymoon.
My wife loved this place so much she was sad to leave. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to stay in the LA area.
I spent a week in this quaint "cottage" while my son was at sleep away camp 2 hours north. When searching for a place my main concerns were to find a clean studio in a safe and convenient (walkable) area. This exceeded my expectations! Elizabeth welcomed me upon my late night arrival and helped me get settled. She was always just a text or phone call away and responded quickly with answers to my questions during the booking process. Immaculate, serene and charming with everything one would need for a week's stay. The neighborhood is like something out of a magazine with tree lined streets, unique architecture and walking trails. Parking was always available directly in front of the home. Ralph's, Starbuck's, local eateries, salons, fitness studios and more all within walking distance. Just a few blocks from the freeway meant traveling to all areas of LA in 30 minutes or less. This comfortable and peaceful setting provided a great office by day and relaxing refuge at night.
I had become so comfortable there that it was actually bittersweet to leave. I will definitely be back next summer (if not sooner).
I stayed here for 8 nights. The property was spotless and clean and quickly felt a home away from home. It is in a fantastic location, right near Ventura Boulevard and close to the 101 and 405 Freeway. Shops, restaurants are easily accessible and Ralphs is nearby.
Street parking is easily available at the front of the property. The studio is very comfortable has a big bathroom and some little extras were provided by Elizabeth to make my stay that little bit more comfortable. Excellent proximity to array of Los Angeles attractions. Thanks for a great stay and no hesitation in staying here again.
