Tourtour: The villa is a 15 min walk from Tourtour, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France. The village square is lively in summer with plenty of restaurants, two bars, and a number of art galleries & boutiques. In winter there are at least three restaurants and both bars open. There is a small mini market and boulangerie both open all year. The medieval part of the village has lovely little courtyards and narrow passageways, as well as a fossil museum and olive mill which operates during January & February. In summer the mill is used by local artists for exhibitions.

Shopping: The two nearest hypermarkets are at Draguignan & Trans en Provence. There are markets at Aups (Wed & Sat), Lorgues (Tues) & Salernes (Sun). There is a very large Sunday Provencal market at Le Muy by the autoroute (A8). All the major coastal resorts and Aix en Provence have excellent shops selling designer labels as well as traditional merchandise from the area

The Countryside: To the North is the amazing Gorge de Verdon, 700m deep in parts. You can drive round the gorge via the Route des Cretes (if you have a head for heights!). There are walks by the river through the gorge; canoes & kayaks can be hired. Lac St. Croix is good for sailing & windsurfing. Between Tourtour & the coast are many vineyards to visit and of course wine to taste. The plain of Valensole to the North West is one of the main lavender growing areas of Provence

Why Richard & Pamela Langworthy chose Haut-Var - Verdon

It okk us five years travelling throughout France to find this area, we bought the land in 200 and the house was completed in 2002 and is updated every year. The garden and pool are exceptionally well maintained by Jean-Paul. The house is professionally managed by local specialist French business, owned by by Christel and Xavia, Christel speaks good English, her husband Xavia not a word! Improvements and redecorating are carried out year on year in order to maintain a very high standard throughout. We spend 3-4 months a year at Le Tibouren, Spring, Autumn and Dec/Jan

What makes this villa unique

Tourtour is one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, but still has its roots in the country and doesn't die like so amny places in France outside the Tourist season. Le Tibouren is quietly situated 15 mins walk from the village in a large garden (3/4 acre) with olives, pines and ornamental trees as well and a carefully tended area around the pool. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all of good size and well furnished. The kitchen and utility rooms are well equiped and are easy to maintain

There is plenty of good quality garden furniture so you can relax and unwind after a busy day

Really can't be faulted

  • 5 of 5

I think this was probably the most complete house we have stated in in France. The description on the website is completely accurate, and don't be deceived by the aerial photos which make the house look a bit exposed, it certainly isn't, being nestled on a hillside, sheltered, and very private. The aspect gives sun throughout the day if wanted, though in the morning early-risers may need to leave the patio to catch the sunlight.

A few specifics, the supply of seating, crockery, kitchen equipment, welcome pack, and bathroom supplies is extremely generous.

The ground floor being self-contained would be a boon for anyone who finds it hard to walk and the pool with its cover is as safe as they can ever be if there are non-swimmers in the party. It is not deep (but plenty deep enough to swim in) and would be ideal for teaching children.

The village is within an easy walk, being relatively flat, and even on hot days it was easy to leave the car at home to go to the restaurants, with La Table and La Bastide being very good indeed. Tourtour is very pretty and has nice views, and it only takes about 10 minutes to get down the winding lane to the larger road at Villecroze

Finally, where were the Mozzies? Perhaps we were lucky or perhaps the elevated position means they are less troublesome here than in other places we have been.

Owner's Response: Thank you Andrew. We are pleased you had a good holiday and are happy with the house and enjoyed the very pretty village, with it's welcoming bars and very good restaurants We try very hard to make the house a 'home from home' and to ensure our guests feel welcome Finally, it is very unusual to have problems with Mozzies but to say we never do would not be true

gorgeous property and house, ideal location

  • 5 of 5

It is difficult to imagine a better home-away-from-home. Le Tibouren is immaculately landscaped and impeccably decorated in a modern style, and the pool, while chilly, provides a welcome relief from the Provence heat. (It is also unusually long for a backyard pool, so we were able to swim mini-laps in it for exercise.) Tourtour itself is a very quaint town with excellent restaurants and an open-air market twice a week, and the house is about a fifteen-minute, easy walk away (for the able-bodied). The owners are extremely responsive and helpful from the moment of booking until departure, and the onsite manager is very responsive and accommodating. We arrived to find a well-stocked fridge (some cheese, cold cuts, fruit, milk, butter, eggs, juice, etc.), which was extremely welcome given that the rentals run from Saturday to Saturday but few grocery stores are open on Sunday in France. Tourtour is also well-situated for exploring Provence more generally, but the house and property are so lovely that we abandoned some of our sightseeing plans just to spend more time at "home." Having stayed at quite a few VRBO rentals--all of which have been excellent--we would rate Le Tibouren as the very best. While more expensive than the others that we have rented, we felt that it was money well-spent. This is a spectacular rental property.

Owner's Response: Thank you Carol Every year we modernise something, this year there were new armchairs and sofa, as well as new curtains. Each year we paint part of the house on a rotation basis. We are lucky to have the best managers in Christel and Xavier for the house and we think the best person in the village looking after the garden and pool Jean-Paul who has been with us now for 14 years I am delighted you enjoyed your stay. 70% - 80% of our bookings are repeats and HomeAway (VRBO) do an excellent job in letting the remaining weeks to some great guests all of whom treat the property as if it was their own

Luxury villa in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a high quality, very well equipped holiday house in a great location. We have spent our holidays in this region for many years and have stayed in several rental properties. We have been to this house for the last four years and are booked again for this year. We would not consider anywhere else now as Le Tibouren offers everything that we need. From wifi to Backgammon and enormous towels, it is a home from home. The very helpful and communicative owners, Richard and Pam are extremely proud of their house and it shows.

Dream holiday in an outstanding villa

  • 5 of 5

We could not have wished for a better holiday location than this. The villa itself is magnificently appointed and impeccably maintained; the English owners are thoughtful, cooperative and communicative, whilst Astrid-the lady "on the ground" so to speak is always very friendly, attentive and helpful.

Tourtour truly is one of "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France"-not as chi-chi as some would make out,it has excellent restaurants(a visit to La Table is a must), an atmospheric square and a couple of very lively bars.Musical events seem to abound all summer to suit all tastes.St Tropez and the hurly burly of the coast is only an hour away- but we always find that we are glad to be back in the hills,to tranquilly sip a glass of rose after an early morning visit!

My only hesitation in giving this villa an unreserved recommendation is that it might prejudice our ability to keep visiting year after year...we have visited on seven occasions- this is really the only recommendation that is needed!

Le Tibouren Villa (Home from Home)

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have spent our summer holiday in this beautiful luxuriously equipped villa, It has everything needed for an enjoyable holiday, The villa and the grounds are beautiful and is situated in an area of natural beauty. The swimming pool is a necessity for when the temperature hits the 90's. The villa is with in walking disatnce of the beautiful quaint mountain top village of Tourtour which has some excellent restaurants and bars for a summer evening meal. There are lots of vineyards in the area for winetasting,

The owners Richard & Pam are very friendly and helpful.
