About the property

Hidden Cabin on 100 Acre Forest Property 15 minutes from Letchworth Park

This 100 Acre Forest Property is just 15 minutes from Letchworth State Park, and features a very secluded, rustic cabin hidden deep in the woods. You can disappear here! No one will find you until you're ready to come out!

THE SPACE:

The space is 100 Acres of private forest! Guests can bring a tent, RV, or... stay in the cabin!

The off grid cabin is lit by old fashioned oil lamps for a soft, romantic glow, but also has convenient 12V solar powered lights. The LP gas fireplace is perfect for relaxing in the evening, getting cozy on the couch, or enjoying the view from the comfortable double bed! The beauty of the forest streams in with the sunlight through the large bank of windows! Morning coffee & evening toddies are accompanied by the sound of birds singing in the woods, and everything tastes even better on the large covered deck, which is also perfect for grilling as the sun goes down! Even during a passing summer shower, the soft patter of raindrops on the tin roof is so peaceful! We love coming here to be alone, and we know you will too!

LP gas powers the hot water, a cook stove, and 1/2 size refrigerator. The bathroom is complete with a natural composting toilet and hot shower. Bath, body wash & shampoo, percolating coffee pot, fully equipped kitchen, and a small library of outdoor & self-sufficiency books are provided. We have an outdoor fire ring w/firewood available for purchase for your outdoor camp fires. You can also get your own firewood from dead & down tops nearby.

Note: December 1 - April 10 is our Winter Wilderness Drop Camp Season. Depending on snow conditions, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to drive your vehicle closer than 1/2 mile to the cabin site due to snow depths & terrain. If the snow is too deep, we can take your luggage & supplies in and out for you with our machines, so you don't have to pack everything in!. The breathtaking scenery of the winter snow on the high elevation hemlocks surrounding the cabin make the inconvenience of reaching this remote location well worth it! Come and discover just how much fun it is being snowed in with the one you love! There's no place like it in the entire Northeast!

Note: During our Winter Wilderness Drop Camp Season (December 1 - April 10), the cabin is dry, meaning that there is no running water in the cabin. Water is hauled in for you, with dispensers placed in the kitchen & bathroom. A 12-volt powered camp shower is provided in the bathroom, and water is heated on the stove. Our composting toilet is unaffected by winter weather.

Guests need to bring their own bedding.

(Note: 12V system will not power appliances such as hair dryers, TV's, or electric coffee makers).

GUEST ACCESS:

Guests can drive in/drive out to enjoy the hidden cabin, large covered deck, outside camp fires with wood provided, cascading creek & waterfalls, hiking trails, and abundant wildlife. Adventurers will enjoy going down the 100' climbing rope to view the hidden water falls... the only way to find them! The Hide-Away itself is situated on 20 acres of high elevation plateau along the North rim of the Cabin Creek ravine. Relax & enjoy it all to yourself!

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted for an orientation to the cabin, the property, and attractions in the surrounding area, which include Letchworth State Park (The Grand Canyon of the East). Housekeeping service comes once a day at a mutually convenient time. Just a half mile away, we are always available to respond to the needs of guests. Only one guest party is allowed at the property at any time, so it's yours to enjoy exclusively!

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

The very best thing about the neighborhood is that there are no neighbors! The cabin is situated off a seasonal use road, at high elevation on top of a ridge. Aside from the occasional vehicle traveling the road, you won't have contact with anyone who is not in your party! We deliver a wonderful experience in a rugged area that is sparsely populated and seldom traveled. We have two ways to access the property, but you will travel on a gravel road either way.

We like to joke that the Cabin Creek night-life is dominated by the wildlife... but that's no joke! In addition to the ever-present squirrels, chip monks & racoon, it is very common to see deer and wild turkey in our forest. The yipping-howls of coyotes are commonly heard after dark while guests sit around the campfire, and seldom-seen bobcats can be heard calling in the night several times a year. Very rare pine martin have been spotted on the property, along with bald eagles & great horned owls. Bears do frequent our area, coming from the 7,700 acre wildlife management area across the valley. Believe us or not, during the 2015 deer season, an Eastern Timber Wolf was observed as it passed by 2 different tree stands, judging by its extreme size and near-black color (later one January night, long, low howls were heard along the base of the ridge. Definitely not coyotes!). So if you're looking for an experience in a wild area... this is as wild as it gets in the entire Northeast!

FUN ACTIVITIES:

100 foot climbing rope descending to hidden water falls (On your own).

.22 caliber handgun & rifle instruction & target shooting by appointment.

Canoe rentals & river float trips by appointment.

Guided hikes/mountain biking to beaver ponds & hanging bog by appointment.

Hot Air Ballooning over Letchworth Park (Outside Vendor)

White Water Rafting in Letchworth Park (Outside Vendor)

Fishing at Nearby Wildlife Management Area (On your own).

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:

Location! Location! The cabin is within an easy twenty minute drive to so many attractions: Letchworth State Park (Grand Canyon of the East), Stony Brook State Park, Swain Mountain Ski Resort, The Mount Morris Dam, and 7,000 acres of State Wildlife Management Area. Wine country tours start within an easy 40 minute drive, and Niagara Falls is a little over an hour and a half away!

GETTING AROUND:

Cabin Creek is in a rural area. Guests will need their own vehicle to get from the cabin to state route 70, from which all area attractions are easily accessed.

About Terry Peck

My husband and I are professionals who both love the great outdoors! We have come to love everything that Cabin Creek has to offer with its beautiful forest, cascading stream, 3 waterfalls, abundant wildlife, and rugged terrain. Whether we're hiking, riding our horses, or 4 wheeling on the trails, we absolutely love it here! As much as we enjoy the beauty of God's creation that He blessed us with, we didn't feel right about keeping it all to ourselves. So, we invite you to come and enjoy it with us!

Terry Peck purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Terry Peck chose New York

It's so close to home, and there really is no place quite like it! Our "Hide-Away" is so secluded amongst the hemlock trees, and it's nice being there all alone together. The deep woods are so peaceful, the sound of the stream cascading over the rocks is relaxing, and the waterfalls are simply beautiful! Then, as we go hiking, there's always the excitement of seeing deer, wild turkey, bald eagles, owls, pine martin, raccoons, and those ever-present squirrels! At night, we can hear the calls of coyotes, and even a bobcat once in a while!

What makes this cabin unique

Cabin Creek Hide-Away provides you with PEACE, PRIVACY and FREEDOM... 3 things that have to be enjoyed together, and are seldom found anywhere but the deep forest! Out here, our night-life is dominated by the wildlife!

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Dave is very hospitable and the cabin is a very nice and clean and a great spot to retreat from all the noise and digital distractions. My 14 year old son and I had a great time there enjoying conversation, hiking, and enjoying the many things nearby to do as well. The Finger Lakes Trail on the property is a great hike. Letchworth State Park was beautiful. We even took a 2 hour drive to the Canadian Side of Niagara Falls. We had great time.

Owner's Response: We're so glad Charles got to bring his son to Cabin Creek for some "Guy Time." The best thing any father can ever give his children is time and attention, and the Hide-Away cabin on our 100 acre private forest offers the perfect opportunity for that! Charles and his family live in Texas, so after the terrible flooding brought by Hurricane Harvey, our thoughts & prayers are with you. May God's blessings be upon you and your neighbors as you help one another recover! David & Terry

Beautiful camp in great location

  • 5 of 5

This is an awesome camp perfect for 2 people. My wife and I had a great time staying here! The camp is only 15 minutes from Letchworth State Park and 20 minutes from Stony Brook State park, two beautiful parks with awesome hiking trails and waterfalls! There is also a lot to do on the property from climbing down a 100 ft hill by rope to watching bears from a viewing area. We saw 2 bears feeding and it was heart pounding! We stayed 3 nights, were busy every day with different activities, and still didn't get to do everything we wanted. Dave and Terry are the nicest people, super helpful giving us a rundown of different things to do and places to go, and always available when we needed them. I would definitely recommend staying here and plan to revisit!

Owner's Response: We loved meeting Brian & his wife, and enjoyed their obvious excitement when they got to observe two of our Black Bears! Our Bear Feeder is located WAY far away from the cabin, and has a 70 foot deep ravine between the feeder and the observation area. We just started doing this as another adventure activity over the Summer, and we've been surprised at how excited guests are to go up to the remote location to sit and try to see a bear. For those who would rather not see a bear; no worries! The bears do not visit the cabin because we remove all garbage immediately after our guests depart. They have never even bothered the grill on the porch, which is left out year-round! Come again any time Brian! The cabin will be all ready for you, and provide you with so much more than just the... "Bear Necessities!" David & Terry

Beautiful cabin tucked away in a quiet peacful setting.

  • 5 of 5

The Cabin Creek Hide-Away exceeded our expectations. Having rented other cabins, we found this one to be larger, cleaner, more comfortable, and better equipped than any others. The large windows let in lots of light and nice views of the trees. The large front porch is fantastic, it allowed us to enjoy the outdoors even on a rainy day.

Each night was spent sitting by a campfire, with a sky full of stars, and fireflies dancing in the trees. You can play your music and nobody will complain, or turn it off and just enjoy the sounds of the forest.

Within a short drive are state parks, swimming spots, and lots of small towns to visit and explore. In four days we ran out of time before finishing off our list of adventures.

If you are looking for a cabin with some peace, quiet, seclusion, and in a beautiful nature environment, then we highly recommend this spot.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review Leif! The big covered porch on the cabin was all Terry's idea! Even when the weather isn't in our favor, Terry still wanted to stay "Outside", and as you discovered, the porch is just the ticket with our comfy deck furniture! Each beautiful season offers it's own set of adventures too, so come on back when you can! The colorful Autumn Leaves & Fluffy White Snow will both be falling soon enough! David & Terry
