Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Dalton - Cabin Creek Hide-Away

Hidden Cabin on 100 Acre Forest Property 15 minutes from Letchworth Park

This 100 Acre Forest Property is just 15 minutes from Letchworth State Park, and features a very secluded, rustic cabin hidden deep in the woods. You can disappear here! No one will find you until you're ready to come out!

The space is 100 Acres of private forest! Guests can bring a tent, RV, or... stay in the cabin!

The off grid cabin is lit by old fashioned oil lamps for a soft, romantic glow, but also has convenient 12V solar powered lights. The LP gas fireplace is perfect for relaxing in the evening, getting cozy on the couch, or enjoying the view from the comfortable double bed! The beauty of the forest streams in with the sunlight through the large bank of windows! Morning coffee & evening toddies are accompanied by the sound of birds singing in the woods, and everything tastes even better on the large covered deck, which is also perfect for grilling as the sun goes down! Even during a passing summer shower, the soft patter of raindrops on the tin roof is so peaceful! We love coming here to be alone, and we know you will too!

LP gas powers the hot water, a cook stove, and 1/2 size refrigerator. The bathroom is complete with a natural composting toilet and hot shower. Bath, body wash & shampoo, percolating coffee pot, fully equipped kitchen, and a small library of outdoor & self-sufficiency books are provided. We have an outdoor fire ring w/firewood available for purchase for your outdoor camp fires. You can also get your own firewood from dead & down tops nearby.

Note: December 1 - April 10 is our Winter Wilderness Drop Camp Season. Depending on snow conditions, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to drive your vehicle closer than 1/2 mile to the cabin site due to snow depths & terrain. If the snow is too deep, we can take your luggage & supplies in and out for you with our machines, so you don't have to pack everything in!. The breathtaking scenery of the winter snow on the high elevation hemlocks surrounding the cabin make the inconvenience of reaching this remote location well worth it! Come and discover just how much fun it is being snowed in with the one you love! There's no place like it in the entire Northeast!

Note: During our Winter Wilderness Drop Camp Season (December 1 - April 10), the cabin is dry, meaning that there is no running water in the cabin. Water is hauled in for you, with dispensers placed in the kitchen & bathroom. A 12-volt powered camp shower is provided in the bathroom, and water is heated on the stove. Our composting toilet is unaffected by winter weather.

Guests need to bring their own bedding.

(Note: 12V system will not power appliances such as hair dryers, TV's, or electric coffee makers).

Guests can drive in/drive out to enjoy the hidden cabin, large covered deck, outside camp fires with wood provided, cascading creek & waterfalls, hiking trails, and abundant wildlife. Adventurers will enjoy going down the 100' climbing rope to view the hidden water falls... the only way to find them! The Hide-Away itself is situated on 20 acres of high elevation plateau along the North rim of the Cabin Creek ravine. Relax & enjoy it all to yourself!

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted for an orientation to the cabin, the property, and attractions in the surrounding area, which include Letchworth State Park (The Grand Canyon of the East). Housekeeping service comes once a day at a mutually convenient time. Just a half mile away, we are always available to respond to the needs of guests. Only one guest party is allowed at the property at any time, so it's yours to enjoy exclusively!

The very best thing about the neighborhood is that there are no neighbors! The cabin is situated off a seasonal use road, at high elevation on top of a ridge. Aside from the occasional vehicle traveling the road, you won't have contact with anyone who is not in your party! We deliver a wonderful experience in a rugged area that is sparsely populated and seldom traveled. We have two ways to access the property, but you will travel on a gravel road either way.

We like to joke that the Cabin Creek night-life is dominated by the wildlife... but that's no joke! In addition to the ever-present squirrels, chip monks & racoon, it is very common to see deer and wild turkey in our forest. The yipping-howls of coyotes are commonly heard after dark while guests sit around the campfire, and seldom-seen bobcats can be heard calling in the night several times a year. Very rare pine martin have been spotted on the property, along with bald eagles & great horned owls. Bears do frequent our area, coming from the 7,700 acre wildlife management area across the valley. Believe us or not, during the 2015 deer season, an Eastern Timber Wolf was observed as it passed by 2 different tree stands, judging by its extreme size and near-black color (later one January night, long, low howls were heard along the base of the ridge. Definitely not coyotes!). So if you're looking for an experience in a wild area... this is as wild as it gets in the entire Northeast!

Location! Location! The cabin is within an easy twenty minute drive to so many attractions: Letchworth State Park (Grand Canyon of the East), Stony Brook State Park, Swain Mountain Ski Resort, The Mount Morris Dam, and 7,000 acres of State Wildlife Management Area. Wine country tours start within an easy 40 minute drive, and Niagara Falls is a little over an hour and a half away!

Cabin Creek is in a rural area. Guests will need their own vehicle to get from the cabin to state route 70, from which all area attractions are easily accessed.

About Terry Peck

My husband and I are professionals who both love the great outdoors! We have come to love everything that Cabin Creek has to offer with its beautiful forest, cascading stream, 3 waterfalls, abundant wildlife, and rugged terrain. Whether we're hiking, riding our horses, or 4 wheeling on the trails, we absolutely love it here! As much as we enjoy the beauty of God's creation that He blessed us with, we didn't feel right about keeping it all to ourselves. So, we invite you to come and enjoy it with us!

Terry Peck purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Terry Peck chose New York

It's so close to home, and there really is no place quite like it! Our "Hide-Away" is so secluded amongst the hemlock trees, and it's nice being there all alone together. The deep woods are so peaceful, the sound of the stream cascading over the rocks is relaxing, and the waterfalls are simply beautiful! Then, as we go hiking, there's always the excitement of seeing deer, wild turkey, bald eagles, owls, pine martin, raccoons, and those ever-present squirrels! At night, we can hear the calls of coyotes, and even a bobcat once in a while!

What makes this cabin unique

Cabin Creek Hide-Away provides you with PEACE, PRIVACY and FREEDOM... 3 things that have to be enjoyed together, and are seldom found anywhere but the deep forest! Out here, our night-life is dominated by the wildlife!

It was a true hide-away

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was quaint and cozy with everything that we needed. David was a wealth of information including telling us how to get the trails to hike. It was a peaceful way to begin our unplugged vacation. Sadly we did not see any bears, coyotes or deer. If you in the area certainly take the time to visit Letchworth State Park.

Owner's Response: Whenever we lead guests back into our Hide-Away, we always greet them with "Now you know why we call it the Hide-Away!" We're glad Lee enjoyed the remote location, although disappointed that she didn't get to see any of our big game wildlife. It's exciting to see them, and they make sitting around the fire at night more thrilling, just knowing they are out there! Maybe next time Lee... we will welcome your return any time! David & Terry

We had the best time here.

  • 5 of 5

We adored Cabin Creek. Loved going back in time to candles, hurricane lamps, charcoal grill, radio and evening fires. Visited Letchworth and Stony Brook and had a great time, but looked forward to going back to the cabin each evening. So peaceful, quiet and serene there.

Owner's Response: Sounds like Karen enjoyed what makes our Cabin Creek area so special; getting out to see the scenic natural attractions nearby, and then returning to the privacy, peace, and quiet of a cabin hidden deep in our 100 acre private forest! It was a pleasure meeting you Karen, and we welcome your return here in the future! Dave & Terry

Wonderful woodsy weekend

  • 5 of 5

Loved the location, deep in the piney woods but still close to Letchworth Park. My sons and grandson had a very enjoyable time and hope to return. It's the perfect place to 'get away from it all'! Highly recommend it.

Secluded woods getaway with comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very clean and had everything you needed. The surrounding wooded area is beautiful and there is lots of room to hike and explore. It's nice also to be near to civilization if you need to pick up anything from the store or grab a pizza. The host was very accommodating, helpful and welcoming. It was really good for our family to 'unplug' and spend some quality time together. We were a little nervous about the composting toilets but found them to be no issue at all. No smell. We hope to come back soon!

Owner's Response: We're glad Sarah and her family enjoyed the total seclusion of our deep woods hide-away, and it makes us feel good to see families spending time & growing closer here. This is such a beautiful area that even the Seneca Indians called it Nun-da-da-da-go-wa-ga... "The Meeting of the Beautiful Hills". One of the ways we are keeping these hills beautiful is with our wonderful composting toilets... No bad smell inside, a minimal amount of water used to maintain them, no sewage to leach into the watershed, and after a year in our composting station we have fertile garden dirt! Come again any time Sarah! Every season has its own unique beauty here!

Perfect get away

We were very impressed by Cabin Creek. The cabin was very private, immaculately clean, and well thought out. We stayed for two nights with our 3 year old and 9 year old and were all very comfortable. We highly recommend it!

Owner's Response: If Whitney and her husband were impressed with Cabin Creek, then we were equally impressed with them! They are a friendly, wonderful couple who gave their two young children a great deep-woods camping experience with all the comforts of home! There's no better way to introduce youngsters to the great outdoors! One of the things we love about hosting guests here at Cabin Creek is all of the good people we get to meet... You are truly a blessing to us! We hope to see you again in the future Whitney! David & Terry
