GREAT FOR EXPO 2015
The Villa Panoramica is situated in a prominent and elevated position, just above the delightful village of Argegno, on the western shores of Lake Como, breathtaking, panoramic views of Bellagio, Comacina Island and the 'Balbianello' promontory await you. (DO NOT miss a visit to the Villa Balbianello during your stay, ask me about it, I am an authorized guide)
We've called it Villa Panoramica for a reason!! Located on the top floor of a small brand new house, built in the grounds of an 18th century villa, it is completely self contained and although only minutes walk to the village, is very secluded.
Everything here is new, but fits in perfectly with the style of the houses built along the lake and in the mountains over the last centuries, with wood beam ceilings, teak floors in the bedrooms and Italian tiled kitchen, living are
TRAVEL INFORMATION PROVIDED: Travel and local information provided. All travel information will be provided to guests booking the apartment and there is a welcome book (provided in the apartment) with the local tours and suggested walking itineraries in the area, local information and suggested boat trips, boat and bus timetables, recommended restaurants and interesting local traditions. We can also provide an excellent, reduced rate transfer service to and from airports and rail stations, in luxury Mercedes cars and English speaking drivers.
FAMOUS NEIGHBOURS: It is 20 minutes drive away from the 'Villa Oleandra' the villa acquired from the Heinz family by George Clooney, and George has been spotted all along the lake, often mixing with the local people. The Villa Fontanella, once inhabited by Gianni Versacci is 20 minutes drive away. Many Italian film stars, singers and football players have also chosen beautiful Lake Como as their home or holiday home.
INFORMATION BOOK IN APARTMENT: In the apartment you will find a very helpful information book, giving you lots of information about the lake, lake transport, what you should see and do while you are here.
In Tremezzo, just 20 minutes drive away, is the Villa carlotta with it's very important botanical gardens and in Lenno, the Villa balbianello, I really recommend a visit there, ask me for details, as I am a qualified guide. the villa was used for lots of films, such as 'A month by the lake', Star wars, the return of the clones, and the latest, Casino Royale,
Switzerland is just across the mountains and Lake Lugano, although very different, is very beautiful and offers walks and shopping. St. Moritz, the jet set resort is a few hours north of the lake and I can offer you the possibility to ride on the Bernina express train, across glaciers to enjoy breathtaking views.
We spent 7 days here, and the experience was lovely. Argegno is one of the smaller cities outside Como, as are Bellagio, Lenno, Laglio (where Clooney lives), Menaggio, etc. Ferry rides make it easy to "city hop" but for efficiency a car is not a bad idea (NOTE: parking at this property supports a small car - but not a bigger one if you're traveling with bags, more people, etc.). The location of this property is close to many things to do but far away enough that you feel you have your own "slice" of Italy. The weather did not cooperate toward the end of our stay - but we expected that. The house could have been cleaner (dusty, cobwebs, tile floor was not well cleaned) Otherwise, it was wonderful for 2 couples and we enjoyed every minute! Property owners were very delightful and helpful as well.
We spent 4 days here, and although the weather was cloudy and rainy, we enjoyed every minute. Silvana welcomed us warmly, and this little home was perfect for two couples. The ever changing views left us breathless. There is no way a camera can capture this panorama. The home is equipped with all the amenities . We appreciated the free WiFi. So many places charge extra for every little thing, but this includes TV, DVDs and WiFi in the price. The laundry facilities are in a covered area behind the house, complete with hanging rack. We had a car, but it was a bit too large for the parking space, so we parked just down the hill, an easy walk.
We loved Argegno, and we particularly loved La Piazzeta, with wonderful food and service. There is a very tiny market, but it was large enough for us to get the basics for breakfast.
We would love to return to this lovely place where the owners have thought of everything a guest could need.
We would highly recommend Villa Panoramica
My wife and I and our 1 year-old son stayed at Villa Panoramica for 2 weeks in late May/early June and loved the apartment. The views are even more spectacular than the photos on the website and we loved Argegno - a small town on the lake full of charm and without the big tourism of some of the better-known locations on the lake like Mennagio and Bellagio.
The apartment is 5 mins downhill to the town centre with its small shops and selection of lovely restaurants (recommend eating outside at the Hotel Belvedere right on the lake), as well as the boat stop giving access to all the major locations around Como. We were in two minds whether to hire a car - in the end we did but we didn't need to as the boat provides a frequent and reliable service around the lake. Having said that, you may want a car to give easy access to the supermarket (10mins drive along the lake road) and to avoid the walk back up the hill to the apartment which, although not long, is quite steep on a hot day.
We have rented a number of villas/apartments in Italy over the years but Villa Panoramica is by far the best equipped. The kitchen is fully equipped (not often the case in holiday rentals in Italy), the apartment is well air-conditioned and the bathrooms are modern and clean. There is a good-sized TV with a range of english free-view channels and a computer with wired and wireless internet access. But the best feature is the wrap-around balcony which is very large (twice the size of the apartment) and offers views over the lake to the north, east and south that are simply stunning! We spent most of our time outside with our son and it was a real pleasure eating dinner on the balcony as the sun set over the lake and surrounding hills.
Finally I have to mention the owner, Silvana, who speaks both english and italian (comes from London!) and was very helpful during our stay. In particular, Silvana went out of her way to help us with an issue we had with one of our passports and I can't thank her enough for that.
We fully recommend Villa Panoramica as a great base to explore a beautiful part of Italy.
Lovely apartment with spectacular views over Lake Como. Extremely well equipped, excellent base for sight seeing. Excellent communication and customer service from the owner. Steep hills in this area around Lake Como would make walking difficult for anyone with a disability; Probably best to hire a car given the location;otherwise would recommend highly to all groups of holiday makers.
With the EXPO 2015, coming soon, this is ideal position for combining a few days relax with a visit to the EXPO, in Milan, it takes 45 minutes to drive, we can organise transport for you to and from the event, ask for details.
Villa Panoramica is only a 5 minutes walk away from the delightful town of Argegno.15 minute drive away from Cernobbio where the world famous Grand Hotel Villa D'Este is to be found and also the Villa Erba, congress and exhibition center. The city of Como is a 20 drive away and of course Como is the silk capital of Italy so there are many silk factory outlets and a very interesting silk museum to visit. Lake Como is famous for its villas and gardens. World famous Bellagio is just across the lake and is home to the Villa Serbelloni, belonging to the Rockefeller foundation of New York and also the Villa Melzi, built in 1800.
