Overview

About the property

Visitors are surprised at this tardis-like house, cosy and comfortable.

This property is ideal for visitors who are keen to be in the heart of this lovely cathedral city. The West Gate of Lincoln Castle is less than 100 metres away and the wonderful cathedral quarter with its cobbled street and range of boutique shops is on your doorstep. Many of our guests have parked their vehicle in the parking space and left it there all week, preferring to explore on foot.

Two downstairs rooms have been opened out to make a good space and the extended kitchen is a light airy space to sit and eat together. On warm days, the sun trap garden is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine too!

The family bathroom upstairs has a bath and separate shower.

About Tessa Smith

I was born in Lincoln and grew up there with my three sisters. My father had a business there, we all went to local schools, married in Lincoln and the first half century of my life was spent there. In 2001 we reluctantly tore ourselves away, lured by a professional opportunity in the SouthWest but I was unwilling to completely sever our ties with Lincoln where the university had started to bring enormous changes to this once sleepy city.

We still have family in Lincoln and this is why we retain our house there. We are also amazed at Lincoln's renaissance and look forward to our visits; we return at least 6 times a year to keep an eye on family, renew friendships and also to maintain the house to which we are constantly making improvements.

I am something of an evangelist for my hometown. Few people ever mention Lincoln or its magnificent Cathedral and Roman history....but people are waking up to it at long last. It is still something of a well kept secret. Come and discover it for yourself!

Why Tessa Smith chose Lincoln

The location of the house is brilliant, as our guests never fail to remark. Burton Road is a strange mix of homes, shops, and visitor attractions but we love the old brick terraces. You are within easy walking distance of West Common if you want a country walk and yet bang in the middle of the historic centre with the castle, museums and the Cathedral.

What makes this house unique

You may well see the Red Arrows practising. They 'live' a few miles north and can often be seen over the Trent Plain which you will see if you follow Burton Road beyond the city northwards.

Roman history and amazing museums are on your doorstep. People also comment on the sunny garden and the kitchen which is also a nice place to sit. Award winning fish and chip shop/restaurant a short walk along Burton Road too.

We are repeatedly told that the house is in the perfect location for guests wishing to see all that historic Lincoln has to offer. The West entrance to the castle is barely 100 metres away, the Museum of Lincolnshire Life and Ellis Windmill virtually on your doorstep and the Cathedral too, within a few hundred metres level walking.

The cathedral precinct is a wonderful place to wander around with many independent shops and restaurants.

Steep Hill, as the name suggests, is challenging but very rewarding and of course, there is a bus to help. If you do resort to the bus though, you will miss the quaint cobbled streets and the array of interesting galleries, vintage clothing shops, antiquarian bookshops, cafes etc

Once down the Steep, as it is known locally, the High Street opens up and there are all the usual stores as well as some good independents. Lincoln is a vibrant place to shop with a small mall. Find your way to the Brayford where swans grace the harbour and the university buildings increasingly sprawl along the banks as well as the cinema and restaurants that follow on such development.
