Castle Sunrise is one of the oldest houses in the Chora, built over 100 years ago, is situated in the very heart of the picturesque “Chora” of Astypalaia, very near to the entrance of the medieval Venetian Castle and only 50 meters away from the wonderful church of “Megali Panagia”.
It is a corner two-floor house, each of which features a separate and autonomous apartment. Each floor/apartment has a separate entrance from the street, a kitchen, a bathroom and beds. The two floors communicate through an internal staircase, which opens and closes easily according to the guests’ wishes. As is customary in the “Chora” houses, the two apartments don’t have partitions, but are built in one open space with high ceilings. The house is decorated in the traditional Aegean style combined with modern artistic touches.
The bottom floor is in the style of the traditional Aegean “tholari”, from the Greek word “tholos”, which means dome. They are called like that because their ceilings are built in the shape of a dome. It has a surface of approximately 30 square meters, has a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, a fireplace, a semi-double bed and a sitting area, which can be turned into a double bed. So it can accommodate from 1-3 guests.
The top floor has a surface of approximately 35 square meters. It has a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, a large double bed and a sitting area. It accommodates 2 guests. It also has a unique balcony, one of the prettiest in Astypalaia, with a unique view of the Aegean Sea on the one side and the castle on the other. For those who don’t mind waking up early (or staying up late) the balcony features an unforgettable sunrise, with the sun majestically rising in the horizon. Further, an internal staircase leads to the roof, which also features a comfortable sitting area with an unforgettable view of the castle, the Chora and the sea.
