The villa dates from the 16th century, it is built of local stone and was originall part of a fortification to guard the valley below. There is a ruined tower close to the property which served as a watch tower and near the villa is the remains of a store house for the garrison. The villa was restored in the 1990's by a local Italian carpenter and his son. The villa is situated in the hills on the edge of the Valnerina national park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and is 13 mins by car to the World Heritage city of Spoleto famous for its arts and music festival.
The villa has four bedrooms and can sleep eight plus two put-up beds for a further two children. There are two bathrooms with showers and a bath. There is a large portico for outside dining with a built-in barbecue and table with seating for eight, there is also an outside shower area. A garden surrounds the house and has a mix of fruit and olive trees. A few minutes drive from the villa is a working farm with a swimming pool and wonderful views across the valnerina, they also have horses for hire. The farm can provide a simple lunch with wine and beer for about 5 euros.
The villa has a fully fitted kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine etc. WiFi is also provided. There is a large dining/sitting room with a wood burning stove and a table which can seat ten. We have built a pool this year for the exclusive use of guests.
The Valnerina is famous for its truffles and wild boar hunting. This a wonderful area for scenic walks and cycling, bikes can be hired from a shop near Spoleto station. Not far from the villa is the medieval village of Scheggino in the Valnerino where you can safely raft or hire a canoe.
