Our restored 1 bedroom adobe with queen which includes a comfortable futon in the living room for extra guests, is a perfect relaxing getaway. Read a book in the hammock under the shade of the pepper tree with mountain views, warm up next to a bon fire surrounded by giant cactus, have a margarita watching the sunset and hummingbirds, or hike or bike in the mountains with 450 year old mine ruins..
I've always enjoyed traveling and being outside the US cultural restrictions. When on vacation I ended up meeting the person I married. I joined up with him in his business which takes us to Guatemala. We sell a wood used for musical instrument production. We love that country with the maya in their indigenous dress and the beautiful untouched areas like Rio Dulce and Sumac Champay. I introduced him to Costa Rica which I always enjoyed and we lounged on the beautiful beaches and hiked in the wild jungles. Together we have found many interesting places tucked away in Central America and Mexico. Mexico, which is so close to the USA, has so many hidden treats from its music and beaches to its mountains and food. I am from Maryland and Rico is from Kansas City, Missouri and I now call Kansas City my home for 22 years. I also say home is where my toothbrush is since we move about so frequently. Someday I hope we dig into other cultures like Southeast Asia but for now we are content with still finding hidden treasures in Mexico.

It is hard to say why we put down stakes in Mineral De Pozos. We never really wanted to "own" anything in a foreign land. But we say these magic doors kept opening and we walked in and next thing we knew we had made an offer on a little humble piece of property with 2 dilapidated adobes on this little magic piece of land. We sort of had buyer's remorse but after completing our restoration process (which was unbelievably uncomplicated) we were rewarded with a spectacular property with charming historic old adobe casitas. We knew it was a days drive from the US border, a days drive from a beach, a days drive to Oaxaca...what better place to rest then here in quiet Pozos.
The weather in this area is stellar except for January which can have some cold days but then you have the spa's hot water, hiking or the hot springs over near San Miguel to warm you up. Not many people know of Pozos so it is a cool find off the beaten track. The people we have met, locals and new comers, are wonderful and have become our close friends. We all have a fun time together. The cactus in this area are so different from what I am used to, it is like walking around in a foreign world being around this kind of plant and it has been really fun to garden with also.
My brother Charles and I had a wonderful time in Pozos. The accommodations were super nice and the local manager was very helpful and agreeable. The restaurants in Pozos were surprising to us in the quality of food as well as the decor. We were also surprised by the amount of interesting things to see in the area.
We spoke very little Spanish but everybody was easy to work with. We recommend your place very highly. Our only problem was that we were limited to 10 days. We should have taken time for 2 to 3 weeks at least.
My family intends to visit Pozos after listening to us.
We love to hike in the hills. I ride my bike to Dr. Mora on the back farm roads to the Tuesday market, it takes 1.5 hours but driving takes 15 minutes. We go over to San Miguel De Allende to the hot springs and soak on chilly days and go antiquing on the road between San Miguel and Dolores Hidalgo which is the same road as the hot springs. Some days we drive over to Guanajuato for lunch and sight seeing and stop in the quaint high mountain village of Santa Rosa for exceptional hand painted pottery and the women's co-op that makes jams. Queretaro has a lovely historic center with museums and great outdoor restaurants some with live music. For a scenic drive we go towards Xichu or Victoria. There are many overnight trips in this area like to Xilitla or to the mountains where the monarch butterflies winter. Additional services including hospitals, larger grocery stores, ATMs/banks , and laundry mat services are in the adjacent town 8 miles to the north which is San Luis De La Paz. Pozos is in the center of many things to do.
