About Simon Bridger
My wife Alex and I are farmers - I'm born to it and my wife married into it! We have cattle, sheep and free range turkeys and geese, as well as laying hens which provide the eggs displayed at the farm gate (and which you can purchase for your breakfast!) Poet's Cottage is located at the entrance to the farm and we are usually round and about to answer any questions and are always at the end of the phone.
Simon Bridger purchased this House in 2015
Why Simon Bridger chose Petersfield
We originally had an old redundant Dutch barn located where Poet's is today. We got planning permission to demolish and rebuild but many of Poet's features, namely it's large glass windows in the front are built to resemble the original barn openings. It's stone exterior also reflects the local stone used in some of the traditional properties down our lane. From Poet's front door you can walk out into the scenic Ashford Hangers that lay behind the property.
What makes this House unique
Poet's has a very rural setting down a sunken lane in Steep. Although set on a lane, there is very little traffic and you are more likely to see horses riding by! Ashford Hangers lies directly behind the cottage. A highlight of the Hangers is The Poet's Stone (in tribute to Edward Thomas who lived nearby) set on The Shoulder of Mutton. About a 10 minute (steep - hence the name of the village!) walk from Poet's - the views on a clear day are superb. The South Downs Way, Hangers Way and Shipwright's Way all cross through the surrounding area.

Poets Cottage - Delightful
Poets Cottage had very comfortable beds and seating areas with a suitably large t.v in keeping with the size of the sitting room. Very well equipped throughout with a superb rain full shower. Large full length picture window, brilliant useful light coming in, but sadly unable to open as a window. Thoroughly recommend this holiday cottage and Simon for his attentive communication during our booking.
A beautiful cottage in rural Hampshire, well equipped and very well maintained
We were a family of 6 attending my nephew’s wedding in Hawkley, a short distance from Poet’s Cottage.
My grandchildren enjoyed daily visits from the cats who were very friendly, Horses passed by and sheep, goats, ducks are all within walking distance. They are beautiful walks close by and although we were only there for a few days we managed a visit to Winchester cathedral and wandered round the town.
A lovely experience all round and Simon and Alex were more than helpful,
Quiet country retreat, modern amenities
Stayed 3 night with friends... has large kitchen/dining area, comfortable for relaxing. Situated on a narrow country lane, and has adjacent farm with turkeys, their 'gobbling' was not an issue. Recommended.
Ideally situated for visiting Portsmouth with it's Historic Dockyard, the cathedral cities of Chichester & Winchester, the motor and horse racing events at Goodwood, Paulton's Park and Peppa Pig World, Jane Austen's home at Chawton, Go Ape at Alice Holt Forest but most of all, for enjoying some wonderful walks in the beautiful Hampshire countryside.
