Overview

About the property

Unique hide away but close to beach, supermarkets, bars and all amenities

Villa de la Motte is situated in a quiet cul de sac with views of Montrichard's Donjon (castle) and is reached by a private gated drive. The kitchen is newly fitted and fully equipped with electric oven, 5 burner gas stove and dishwasher. The downstairs cloakroom houses the washing machine. The 'back' kitchen has an American style fridge freezer and a window opening into the kitchen cave with its old bread oven now used for cooking paella. The dining room seats 6 people and opens onto the terrace which in the summer provides the ideal space for 'al fresco' dining.

The impressive sitting room has a mosaic floor and Tuffeaux stone fireplace with seating for 8 people. It opens onto the conservatory which includes the original well pump and has views of the garden. This conservatory also has dining facilities.

The bedrooms are en suite and large and comfortably furnished with views overlooking the Cher valley and Donjon. Both bedrooms have king size beds with the family room having an additional single bed. One bedroom has an en suite shower, basin and toilet and the other has a bath with shower over, basin and toilet. Both bedrooms have double wardrobes and drawer space.

There is also a separate games room with table tennis, gym equipment and terrace which provides additional dining space and shade when it is just too hot.

Outside there is table seating for 6 people and garden chairs, together with large barbecue.

The largest cave is where the wine was made and there is still evidence of this with some equipment still in place.

Tranquil and stimulating!

  • 5 of 5

Villa de la Motte is a magical place - tucked away up a long private drive but only 10 minutes walk from the supermarket and town, We loved the house - very comfortable and well-equipped in every aspect. The garden is wonderful with the wisteria, honeysuckle and plenty of places to sit. Loved the mosaic floors in the sitting room and dining in the verandah on cooler evenings but with the sliding doors fully open so still a feeling of al fresco..... The property was immaculate and the owner very welcoming and helpful in pointing us in the right directions for our research into the Loire region. We would certainly recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in a truly unique house.

Owner's Response: It was lovely to meet you and hear all about your ideas for your book and look forward to receiving a copy which will include a reference to the history of Villa de la Motte! So happy that you loved the house as much as we do. Look forward to staying in touch and maybe see you again soon.

Fantastic location, shame about the gite

  • 2 of 5

My husband and I have just returned from a week at Villa del la Motte. We booked after reading excellent reviews about the property. When we arrived we were so disappointed, everywhere was tired and dated. The living room was so dark with an overwhelming smell of soot from the chimney. There was so much "stuff" and clutter, we decided to keep all of our belongings in one room to avoid loosing it. On the plus side, we had a fabulous holiday. The location is great, and there are lovely views from the house and the garden of the local Donjon, which is lit up at night, The property is also close to the local river, with a bathing area, cafe/bar, etc. The town of Montrichard is really lovely with plenty of restaurants, shops and cafes. We did spend lovely evenings sitting in the garden. On our last day as we were leaving , a red squirrel popped from a tree outside the front door, best of all a young deer wandered in through the open gates, magical !

Owner's Response: Villa de la Motte is a family holiday home so it includes photos of children on the kitchen dresser, books on the kitchen book shelves and general nice things around the house. Some people like this and others prefer to have holiday rental which is free from this clutter. Regarding the sitting room being dark, it is a part troglodyte house so half is in the caves. I am glad you appreciated the garden and the many wildlife which treat it as their home!

Fantastic Villa La Motte !!!

  • 5 of 5

We have just stayed a week at Villa La Motte -it was not long enough !! The view from the house and garden to Montrichard was lovely. The house so clean and tidy. Garden was very safe and very large ,on a quiet road. We had 3 dogs with us and they all had a great place to play. Kitchen was very well equipped and modern. The house itself is very unusual as it is set into a cave and built many years ago.

Montrichard is easy walking distance and has many lovely restaurants. Our fav was La Villa in the square near to the tourist office-3 courses 22 Euros. Loads of Caves for wine tasting. Supermarket at the end of the road stocked everything.Played tennis nearby-book through tourist office. Indoor/outdoor swimming pool looked very nice-if you did not fancy the River Cher that is !! Quirky and none too clean

  • 1 of 5

What a disappointment. The pictures look so wonderful. In truth this place is very dark and drab, not at all the brightness shown in the photos, the wonders of Photoshop! Desperately in need of some TLC. A vast array of elderly and rather grubby electrical kitchen equipment, over 50 assorted glasses, some of them clean, but only two soup/cereal bowls. Kitchen, dining room and hall sadly in need of redecorating. Upstairs hall carpet badly stained with what I assume was a leak from above. Toilet seats and lids which we had to re-fit several times. Faulty light switch for one bedside light. The whole place is cluttered with what looks like the detritus from the owner's life, family photos, personal invitation on display. Very strange, when we were informed by the French contact that the owner had never lived there. Would really hesitate to recommend this place

Owner's Response: Apologies for the delay in responding. We did not rent the villa last year so have only just put it back for rent this year. I am sorry that you had such a bad experience. Some people appreciate the 'family' feel of the house whereas others prefer a standard uncluttered holiday rental. We changed our housekeeper last year so I am confident that future holidaymakers will not have any concerns over cleanliness or equipment.

MAY 2011 AT VILLA LA MOTTE

  • 5 of 5

An attractive,well-equipped property---one of the top three in our long experience of renting in France. The house and garden were listed accurately on the site and all the information provided by the owner was correct and useful. The position was, for dog-owners, excellent with country walking immediately outside the huge, secure garden.A supermarket was within walking distance and the little town of Montrichard with its shops and restaurants a fifteen minute stroll or a short drive away. The house is well-placed to explore the chateaux of the Loire region and the journey from Calais couldn`t have been easier. The owner was on hand and she was most kind and helpful whenever we saw her.We had a really good week and would certainly consider renting this property again.

An Idyllic Spot for a Wonderful Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We've just spent four glorious weeks at Villa de la Motte. The location is ideal for "chateau hopping" and there is a good selection of shops and restaurants just across the bridge in Montrichard. A Carrefour supermarket is literally around the corner and there's even a beach less than 10 minutes away. The house is very clean, well equipped and comfortably furnished; the beds feel just like home with unusually good quality pillows and linen.

We really appreciated its location on a cul-de-sac which makes it safe and quiet, and the extra large property provides plenty of privacy. In the evenings we loved to sit outside with a glass of wine and listen to the birds chatting back and forth in the beautiful big old trees, and it was always a pleasure to return after a hard day of sightseeing.

This is the perfect place to spend a memorable vacation in the Loire/Cher area, and we look forward to returning soon.

Owner's Response: It is so lovely to hear that our guests value and enjoy Villa de la Motte as much as we do. It is a very special place and to hear this kind of feedback is very rewarding, not only to us, but also the Villa which has a personality of its own!
