Laroque des Alberes is an authentic, bustling and well equipped village with a market on Wednesdays, offering locally grown produce, meat and fish. There are also several roadside fruit & veg producers open most summer days. The village offers a full range of shops and amenities, including bakeries, grocery store, bank, post office, pharmacy, tabac, doctors, dentist, cafes, bars and restaurants. There are plenty of local caves in the area offering wine tasting . The village has an historic centre with narrow streets leading up to walled ramparts and an ancient church. From the centre you can walk directly into the magnificent Alberes Mountains and follow many of the marked walking trails. For the very fit, you can hike up to Pic Neoulous, at 1250mtrs it is higher than Snowdon. At the top you are on the border between France & Spain. The views are incredible. For the not so fit there are many miles of walking and cycling trails on flat ground. Local lakes offering windsurfing, sailing, wakeboarding and fishing. In the summer months the local villages put on live music for entertainment, and with our wonderful climate you can sit outside one of the many bars and restaurants in the evening sun, sipping a locally produced wine and enjoying shellfish and seafood, caught and brought into the local ports in the area. If you are a beach lover, the white sands of Argeles sur mer stretch for miles and are a haven of activity for families, if you want a quieter day of relaxation, Le Racou at the southern end offers tranquility. All along the beach you will find water sports for the whole family. Just behind the beach there are a huge amount of shops open mainly in the summer months, but offering a great range of clothes and local produce. There are many more beaches and cosy coves to explore, the most famous probably being Collioure. This fortified town was made famous by artists Dali, Picasso & Matisse, and is very popular to this day with artists of all abilities. A walk through the backstreet amongst the pretty boutiques and quaint floral adorned apartments is a must. Along the coast is the waterpark (Aqualand) at St Cyprien, a great day out for families. St Cyprien also offers a fantastic 18 hole golf course with wonderful mediterranean views.
