About the property

Norwood House - a house that sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms

Dating back to 1811 and originally a fisherman's cottage, this beautiful 3 storey character holiday home has been lovingly restored by the current owners with the accommodation retaining many character features yet combining the benefits of modern additions.

The accommodation offers a cosy sitting room with a feature fireplace, dining room for 8 people and a fitted kitchen which is equipped with all appliances as well as a separate utility. There are four well furnished bedrooms and a downstairs modern fitted bathroom. The rear garden with BBQ area and outside seating creates a real alfresco feel. Norwood House is located on Brading's High Street with restaurants, pubs and transport routes. The seaside towns of Sandown and Ryde are just a short drive away.

The quaint village of Brading is on a main bus route to the nearby Towns of Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin and offers a local shop, a museum and two pub restaurants offering home cooked food and local ales. Nearby marshland offers some fantastic scenic walks and the sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin are only a 10 minute drive away.

Norwood House

  • 3 of 5

On arrival the property looked ok but as we progressed through the week it wasn't so good.

Second fridge was not clean and unfit to use.

Grill pan was greasy.

Televisions didn't work properly and no instructions left.

On suite toilet was very dirty needed some bleach.

On suite shower water did not go away it filled up. Needed unblocking.

Top room sink taps loose.

Both barbecues not fit to use just dirty.

The house was well provided for everthing we needed.

Back outside door not secure.

Only one parking space for EIGHT people is ridiculous other arrangements should be made not maybe park in road if there's room or use car park at a charge.

Very noisy at front as it is on main road.

Generally it needs updating.

When we came to leave cleaning lady asked us to move our car as we should have been out before

10am when it clearly states to be out by 10am we took a photo when we were on road at 6 minutes past 10.

I wouldn't recommend it due to parking issue and location.

A Wonderful Xmas Week

  • 4 of 5

We booked Norwood House for Christmas to spend with family and had a lovely week! It was the perfect house for Xmas - homely and warm with everything included for a traditional Christmas - all essentials including a good cooker, pots and pans to cook a beautiful traditional Xmas dinner and a dishwasher to help with the cleaning up afterwards. The house is furnished well and was warm on the cold nights - as per other reviews, yes it's noisy on the main road but we knew that when booking and were happy to accept this - Brading is a beautiful, historic village - only thing we struggled with is the bad signal coverage - especially as no wifi - this made it really hard to keep in touch with other family and friends which is a must at Xmas - if wifi was in place, we could've made contact via other means i.e. FaceTime or messaging - wifi is something I think the owner/agents should consider to solve this problem - would def recommend this property to families and would happily return.

Location

Car: not necessary

Sandown bay, with Shanklin to the south and Yaverland and Culver cliff to the north, offers far reaching sandy beaches, which are gently sloping and ideal for safe bathing. One of the few towns on the island which has retained its pier, this provides amusements, fairground rides and facilities for anglers. Sandown is a family resort, with nightclubs, pubs, restaurants and cafes. There's also Browns pitch and putt, the Zoo with tiger sanctuary and even the ‘Dinosaur Isle' museum.

Yaverland is easily accessible by car or on foot. There's ample parking, a kiosk and toilet facilities, as well as the yacht club. The area is great for families and adjoins the towering chalk cliffs of Culver.

Brading is one of the oldest towns on the Isle of Wight and steeped in history. Here you can explore the pretty Norman church of St Mary's, the Bull Ring and the Old Town Hall, with its whipping post and stocks. Other attractions include the Brading Roman Villa, The Lilliput Antique Doll and Toy Museum and Morton Manor with its cider making, gardens and maize.

The Isle of Wight famous for its superb beaches, dramatic coastlines and outstanding natural beauty, the Island is a holiday haven with something for everyone. From secluded coves and wide expanses of sandy beaches it's not just the stunning landscapes that attract visitors to the Island, but the variety of things to see and do. Rich in a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities, visitors return year after year to enjoy another holiday with Home from Home Holidays. Self-catering is the most popular option because it is both cost effective and offers flexibility with the freedom to come and go as you please.
